“Backlog Season” resumes with what is technically Season 0 or a prequel to the anime about psycho gamblers, most of whom are lesbian. Let us take a quick glimpse at how life at the kooky school was like before Yumeko hit the scene in KAKEGURUI Twin.
Reviews of the main series HERE.
As the cover shows the anime stars Mary Saotome in her first year at the school before becoming part of the madness herself until Yumeko came. She is accompanied by her childhood friend Tsuzura and later another homie as they face off against vintage gambling nut jobs in usually rigged games where our heroines must use their wit before or during games to find a way to prevail lest they face severe consequences upon defeat.
Basically it is more of the same fans know and love just without Yumeko but more Mary though we get cameos from familiar characters besides the seitokai. With the show only being six episodes it felt more like we got a piece rather than the whole pie. Perhaps because the manga ended a year after the anime aired. Whether the rest of the story gets animated remains to be seen though it airing on Netflix does not fill me with confidence.
Fans of the series aware of Mary’s chick magnet power will be pleased to know it was not a main series trait as Tsuzura and even the third homie show. Besides them there are some crazy gays to be found as well.
Recommended to fans of the Kakegurui who want more as they hope for another season of either show.
There are some post-ED scenes.
Really enjoyed this one, although this being a prequel, makes me worried Mary’s friend since we don’t see her in the present.
I recall I had to look up the rules to that dating game tho, that totally confused the hell outta me when I watched it.

Which is why I hope the rest is animated so we can find out what happened to her. The main show hints she left and Mary’s pissed at Kirika for it but that’s all we know.
I don’t pay much attention to the rules of the games because I know I’d end up confused listening to the winner explain how they won.

short and sweet prequel I’ve enjoyed watching greatly. In fact, I like this slightly more than the original series.
