Yuri Talk: Bumblebee/Bumbleby Part 2: Bees. My God.

I am mainly here to continue where I left off discussing Blake X Yang’s relationship. Part 1 can be seen HERE.

Like last time SPOILER WARNING!

First of all my brief thoughts of Volumes 7 and 8. I think it was not a good idea to watch them back to back. RWBY viewers knew by this point the show was in permadrama mode and it was not going back. As V7 progressed the jokes were lessened and the pain grew. I was legitimately reminded of the Injustice series of comics and video games, specifically Part 1. The story of a Superman having one bad day where he lost everything and then his desire to become a protector being twisted and turning him into a paranoid dictator, taking over the world and putting it under martial law, having villains work for him on a leash, some heroes knowing his ideals were extreme but either agreed with him over time or joined him out of fear etc. We even had Qrow play the role of Injustice Batman though unlike Ironwood’s portrayal Qrow did a better job whereas Ironwood lacked Superman’s charisma or coolness.

There was that and also my becoming weary of “Team RWBY’s 1 step forward and 50 steps back” narrative. I still enjoy the series overall and want to see the story to its conclusion but to say I am becoming agitated of them failing time and again, losing important allies and running away is not an exaggeration. One hit especially hard for personal reasons. Have the smallest of hopes for a miracle but I imagine the reaction from some would be lots of nagging. Ugh.

SalemOn the bright side Salem awakened something inside me as she helped me understand the “Step on me” crowd. I finally know how you feel.

Elm and HarriettThere was also Elm’s pythons and Harriett’s booty. Harriett was annoying but the writers knew where to focus the camera during action scenes or confrontations so I let it slide. Thank you.

As for Volume 9 up to Episode 6 as of this writing it is a mix of fun and the usual RWBY drama. I am just waiting to see how things go to heck as usual. The character study mixed with an Alice in Wonderland setting is a nice touch. Then again RWBY wears its Brothers Grimm fairy tales inspiration like a badge of honor so it is not unsurprising. Good stuff.

Anyway on to what everyone is here for.

Blake and Yang reuniteTo be honest not much has changed in Volumes 7 and 8. The biggest progression was they had become even less subtle than before. Their flirting is much more obvious, they were often together and snuck in some comfort before being separated early in Volume 8 due to a disagreement in how to best protect Atlas. A running theme in both Volumes, lack of trust, conflict, fear. The usual basically. Blake’s concern for Yang was more open whereas Yang’s was slightly more subdued…untilĀ  a scene with Jaune. Yang asked him they did the right thing going in a different direction from Ruby and the others. Actually what was asked was if he thought “SHE” thought badly of her for choosing a different option than her. He said despite them arguing they were still caring sisters and Ruby would never hate her. Yang was like “Yeah…Ruby…”

The above screen grab was of when Yang, Jaune and Ren finally reunited with the others. Yang gave Ruby and Weiss “I’m glad you’re okay” hugs but when she got to Blake…actions spoke louder than words…Speaking of Ren the ReNora parallels between them and Bumbleby continued as they did the exact same thing when they reunited…in case some still did not get the message.

Skipping ahead to Volume 9 because I do not want to relive the pain our heroines were briefly separated (though in plot time much has passed). Ruby understandably felt lost even after reuniting with Blake and Weiss. Then they found Yang.

Blake love tackled YangUnderstandable Love Tackle from Blake as she thought her fiery blonde was “gone” for a while.

Blake and Yang even less subtleBy Volume 9 the kiddy gloves came off. It really felt like it was only a matter of time. Some of their teammates, except Ruby because emotional wreck, could tell the obvious and were like “finally” here and…later…

Let me see. What else? There was another delightful moment and Episode 4 where the characters confronted themselves and were given a test to get an idea about what their personal goals were except Ruby because, again, emotional wreck. It is best to just get to “the scene”.

So after being reminded of the dark times our heroines and the Rusty Knight (take a wild guess who it is) got caught in a “thunderstorm”. One that created metaphorical and literal crossroads of the mind where the only way out was to wait or find the answers you seek. It was honestly felt like a random time to finally have “THE TALK” but as I mentally prepared myself for what I hoped would happen I told myself “It’s a Wonderland setting. It plays by its own rules so if now is the time they want the Bees to have the talk then whatever. Let’s FINALLY (hopefully) do this!”

Bridge of destinyHow fitting it would be set on a bridge atop the storm with the Bees on opposites side. They wondered how to get to the center and Blake was like “I’ll feel better when we’re together on the platform”. Yang did not get it but after praising her intellect and ears it became clear. The corn ramped up and when they were almost there Yang said they needed a big one to get there quicker. When asked what was left they knew the answer but could not say it. The bridge zoomed back. Yang felt embarrassed and was a bit concerned what it would mean but Blake knew it was time.

Blake and Yang LiliesThe fact Blake was waiting for Yang to say it and IMMEDIATELY reciprocated her love AND THE LILIES?! Dood. Plus Blake knew for a while she loved Yang. Just waited for her beloved to follow her. That time had come in this scene. They had come so far. Why bother putting it off any longer?

Blake and Yang Kiss10 years. 10 years of Bumbleby being subtle and not subtle at all. All the moments, all the hints, all the flirting, all the ups and downs, all the team battles, every time they pined for each other when apart. 10 years.

Blake and Yang still kissingThe storm passed but yuri love has no limits.

To think it all began with pajamas.

Finally got this fanbleepingtastic moment 10 years in the making and am now ready for more pain. BRING IT ON SHOW!

PS: During the magical bridge scene one of Blake’s praises to Yang was the answer to the question Adam asked Yang during his last stand against the Bees in Volume 6, “What does she even see in you!?”

Blake: “I…think you’re an extraordinairy person. You’re…always the first to lighten a situation. You act bravely when you’re afraid. You do what you say”. Basically everything she thought she saw in him she would actually find in her.

  1. The slowest of slow burns, but it paid off in a fantastic way! It was so satisfying to see them confess and kiss at last! The execution of their special moment was beautiful and perfectly done. You know it was excellent when you have people who’ve never seen an episode of RWBY in their lives binging the series after seeing the 2 minute clip and praising it. I think this will usher in a whole flock of new viewers, which means the odds of V10 and beyond getting greenlit just got that much stronger. I can hardly wait to see how they will grow further from here, now as official girlfriends. Ten years of patience was required, but we can finally celebrate. Here’s hoping we see them reach even greater heights as lovers!

This kind of payoff is what 100+ chapter yuri comics should strive for if they insist on going the slow burn route. Great build, lots of wonderful moments all culmunating in a fantastic unforgettable confession.

Hopw for more of them and other magical moments between other pairs in the franchise.

Funnily enough, even though I’ve been shipping Bumblebee basically since the very beginning, along with Whiterose, I didn’t like the way they went about it in the show all that much. Still, that latest scene was pretty cute, I’ll give them that.

Too bad that Whiterose probably ain’t gonna happen in canon, but oh well.

I cried when they finally kissed! I’ve been shipping them since 2016. I’ve read so much fanfic and I’ve hoped that they’d actually get together.

I thought for sure that they would just be teasing it and maybe they’d get together in the very last episode of the series. I’m so glad they didn’t do that! I’m so happy!

And the lilies were a nice touch.
