Blue Reflection Ray Episode 14: Fragment Crisis

Last time a “mysterious” hooded Reflector helped Hiori against Mio. It didn’t take long for them to discover her identity.

Hiori tried to approach Niina but a speeding truck gave the latter enough time to disappear. Later Hiori told Miyako about their encounter with her but Miyako shot down her idea of having Niina join the team before she even brought it up. Miyako didn’t forget what she did to her. Ruka seemed to not pay attention but immediately ended the argument with one question, “I wonder what Momo would say?” Later that evening Ruka gave Hiori a better opinion. She understood both sides of the argument and pretty much sided with Hiori, saying “If Niina joining us will help bring back Mio and Momo then let’s give it a try”.

We moved on to the new girls Ryoka and Amiru. Ryoka collected photos for a special album of the couple. As the two looked at the photos Amiru showed she recorded every song they’re listening to on every occasion. That was until they got to her birthday. The song was strangely missing. As Ryoka tried to search for the audio file Amiru spaced out. We would find out later what’s wrong with her.

Ruka and Hiori went on patrol. Girls were still more vulnerable than before. Ruka found a girl in danger and as she calmed her down a familiar group showed up. It was some former Red Ring Gang scouts. They’re still empty but now they wanted their feelings back. Remembering they had it taken from them by a magical girl they targeted Ruka. Fortunately for her Ryoka was nearby and used her princely charms to get her to safety.

Meanwhile Hiori found Niina helping another girl in danger of losing her fragment. They had a game of “red light, green light” until Niina was like “No I will not join your team!”. Again without Hiori saying anything. She was very easy to read. Hiori told her about her plan to get Mio back but during the last battle Niina couldn’t sense any part of the old Mio within her.

When Hiori brought up Momo Niina told her about one of her past victims. She sensed a familiar emotion within her and tried to give back her fragment but to no avail. Hiori was like “It’s just one failure, right? Surely there must be another way to restore them. Join me Niina and let’s find out together.” It looked like Niina finally gave in to her “annoying” ways but felt a pain in her chest. We’ll find out what happened to her next time.

Back to Ryoka and Ruka. Ryoka was looking for Amuri who ran off. That’s how she found Ruka in the alleyway. They went to a bus stop. A special place to the prince and princess. Ryoka said she believed the girls when they called Ruka a magical girl because of her blue ring. She revealed Amiru was attacked by one. Remember the girl Niina tried to show mercy to? It was Amiru. She then explained their relationship. They were childhood friends who were always together. When they went to high school Ryoka’s feelings for Amiru became inexplicable. Neither friend nor sister. WE know what that means, yes. As expected Ryoka wasn’t the only one with strong feelings for the other as a clearly jelly Amiru poorly hid her disapproval of Ryoka’s popularity. Classic case of “Want more but don’t know how to tell the other” we have seen many times. Eventually that night happened and Ryoka regretted not being able to tell her or listen to how she really felt.

Since then Ryoka’s tried everything in her power to care for Amuri. Ruka, having felt a similar regret before, revealed her Reflector identity to Ryoka and when Amuri came back as Ryoka hoped Ruka promised to help fully restore her feelings.

Meanwhile Mio and Shino said they needed two more special fragments to complete the portal to the Common. Readers can tell where this may be going.

Good stuff as always.

PS: I know I didn’t mention the hospital scenes of Miyako trying to care for Momo and Yuri analyzing her incomplete fragment because I just described both scenes in one sentence.

The fact that her fragment is somewhat broken brings to mind the possibility that Momo will have forgotten something/someone even when they get it back to her. The fact that Yuri is able to analyze this, likely means that the most plausible method of getting a fragment returned to someone, means entering the commons. And possibly that the thing they’re doing is sending the fragments to the commons. But fragments are already supposed to be there….so would that be sending them back?

Hmm…..can’t say more on that subject.

I think that Ryoka originally didn’t realize what those feelings were, but realized what they were when it was already too late, and Amuri lost her fragment. The way she talked about it, highly implied she realized that it was a lovers’ relationship that Amuri was going for.

I think Amuri went out of control not because of jealousy, but because of how she believed that she was stuck in a one-sided relationship, much like Niina is with Mio. Because Ryoka said she had “no intention of dating”.

I continue to ponder the situation with Yuri and the rest of the old cast. And if this incident is hinting to what Tie is going to be about. I think that’s probably safe enough to say without spoiling any game things.

Interesting to learn more about the fragments. Yep, it seems that Niina had second thoughts back then, Still, it’s not too surprising to see her that cold, despite Mio and Uta abandoning her. I have to admit her interaction with Hiori is funny.

Kind of sad to see Amiru in the state. Hopefully Ruka and Hiori find a way to restore her feelings and stop Mio and Shino.

that “red light, green light” game reminded me of a joke about Nanoha’s Vivio, who supposedly could play this game without speaking, but simply blinking her left or right eye 😀
