Yuri Quickie: Chuunibyou Movie! Take On Me

I deliberated on whether to review the Chuunibyou Movie (the one that is not a recap) but in all honesty it is a simple movie to describe the hook of so I will keep that part brief and then focus on what everyone here really wants to know about.

For newcomers who have yet to watch the series check out my review of the previous two seasons HERE.

Length: 93 minutes

G-Rating: 9/10

Take on Me is a “chase/pursuit movie”. The kind where the main character(s) is/are on the run for whatever reason and a majority of the film is spent with them evading their pursuers and experiencing development and growth throughout their journey to wherever it is they are heading. That is the gist of this movie, joining Yuuta and Rikka as they try to get away from the Omnipotent Sexy Beast Touka and her (not by choice) “henchwomen”. As mentioned our heroines (and the other characters for that matter) have strong interpersonal/intrapersonal moments throughout the chase related to their relationships and being someone with “8th Grader Syndrome”, the friend of or related to one. Topics covered throughout the series but them reaching their crescendo in this movie.

Put simply it is a must watch for fans of the series, especially ones hoping for closure from the main story. This will upset super fans of a certain show but I stand by this statement. Take on Me is Tamako Love Story done right. Let us hope the second big Hibike! Euphonium movie will follow suit.

NibuDeko doing what they do best.

The best parts of the movie unsurprisingly are courtesy of the Omnipotent Sexy Beast Touka’s “hired” stooges NibuDeko and as expected they were not good at their job but gosh darn it were they amazing at everything else! As far as their relationship goes it is still “one step at a time” but progress was definitely made. Give them their own movie and we are set. I posted the above picture for good reason.

Sure, why not.

A bonus is the potential between Kumin and Satone. Do not expect much but what we got was enough to at least consider it. Sure, why not.

I freakin loved this movie ~

As you said, “Tamako love story done right”

I was worried it’d be like 90% YuutaRikka and the rest everyone else, but they actually did a good job splitting up spotlight a lot.

As for the main story, it was fantastic, they really finished out those two’s story amazingly ❤

And yeah, we need another movie. There needs to be an actual definitive conclusion to Sanae and Shinka’s relationship now! They did so much with them….

Was super adorable when she thanked Sanae for everything after commenting how she didn’t want to catch them either ❤

The two used the “chase” as an excuse to go on a date vacation basically XD But neither would ever admit that to the otherz

And yes, Kumin and Satone! A very welcome and surprising surprise! They could be with the spotlight levels that Nibudeko got in Take on me, in the NibuDeko movie that we all desparately want!

      Yup.

      Twas more like 70/20/10.

Great conclusion for the main couple, yes.

NibuDeko need their lovey-dovey movie or special ASAP!

      Dekomori is best girl.

They’re tsundere in love. Of course they wouldn’t.

Two couples for the price of one. Make it happen KyoAni! We knew you can do it.

Great movie. As a fan of the series, I was very satisfied with the conclusion of Rikka and Yuuta’s story. We def need a Mori x Deko movie now, and I’ll be fully content.

Oho? There’s good DekoMori-Summer content in this movie? I’ll make a note to check it out: that ship was definitely what I liked the most about this series.

NibuDeko are hands down the best part of this series, but I gotta say Rikka in her Lolita dress are darn cute too!

Fun movie after a fun series. Morisummer and Dekomori need to open up about their relationship. Of course, then they’d have to pay for their own date vacations. Hmm…

I liked what we got between Kumin and Sophia Ring SP Saturn VII. It’s clearly the start of something beautiful.

I’d like a sequel series set about 20 years later with the daughter of Dark Flame Master and the Tyrant’s Eye inheriting both their powers and going on adventures (and some awkward dates).
