103+104 Double ECCHI Panic 2: RE; Cutie Honey and AIKa

Hello and welcome to the G-Views, where creativity is respected and Dokuro-chan is rejected. (I wonder how many people noticed the shorter intro?)
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these so let’s get to it with not one, but two ECCHIMANIA shows. Let’s start off with a personal favorite, RE: Cutie Honey.

RE;Cutie Honey.jpg

Genres: action, adventure, comedy, magic, romance, science fiction
Themes: ecchi, fanservice, yuri
Number of OVAs: 3, 45 minutes each.
G-Rating: 8/10

Plot Summary: A mysterious organization known as Panther Claw make their presence known by terrorizing Tokyo and giving the cops a run for their money. Police are further baffled by the appearance of a lone cosplaying vigilante who thwarts all of Panther Claw’s evil schemes before disappearing. That cosplayer is Honey Kisaragi, the result of the late Professor Kisaragi’s prize experiment. A master of disguise, Honey can magically alter her physical appearance and outfits. But with a push of the heart-shaped button on her choker, she transforms herself into Cutie Honey, the scantily-clad, sword-wielding warrior of love and justice.

Before I continue, I would like to mention some facts:
1: No I have not seen any Cutie Honey anime other than this one
2: No I have no plans of watching the live action movie.
3: Both shows are NSFW (Not Safe for Work). Expect uncensored nudity.

Truly enjoyable fare. Exciting, action-packed, and with a very sweet, canon relationship between Honey and the prickly but warm-hearted Natsuko. A lot of cute moments, and some pretty moving scenes as well. This is sandwiched between mountains of fanservice, but it’s done in a very comedic and tongue-in-cheek way, rather than being sleazy. Unfortunately, it’s short…3 45-minute episodes, and you’ll wish there was more. But what’s there is great.

Animation: Similar style to “Lupin the 3rd vs Detective Conan”: Modernization of an old school classic. Basically a combination of old school with a modern touch.

Music: 70’s and 80’s mix. My kind of tunes. So yeah, I can dig it. also the OP and ED ROCK. Sadly I couldn’t find a vid of the ED.

Characters:
Honey Kisaragi / Cutie Honey: Kisaragi Honey works as a temp at an office in Tokyo. She’s also an android out to get revenge against Panther Claw for killing her father. Her weapons are a boomerang, a rapier, a lance, and the power of Love.

Seiji Hayami; Hayami Seiji claims to be a newspaper reporter, but he seems to know a good deal about the technology that Cutie Honey utilizes, and seems to be studying her closely.

Natsuko Aki / “Nat-chan”: Inspector Aki Natsuko is in charge of bringing Panther Claw to justice. She has incredible aim with firearms and can be fearless even if it is raining bullets. My favorite character. In short, she is:
One BADASS Policewoman in every sense.

Villains: Panther Claw. Group of thugs led by supernatural women who all look and act freaky. the top 4 generals consist of: Gold Claw, Cobalt Claw, Scarlet Claw and Black Claw. the freakiest of them all and leader of the group is Sister Jill. How freaky are they? See for yourself.

The rest of the cast include a cranky and pervy boss, Honey’s coworkers, Nat-chan’s buddies, the entire police force and the mid-ranked freaky Panther Claw members.

In conclusion: If you’re at all interested in a wild ride with a bit of sweetness at the side, give this one a try. The fanserivce is there but it’s thankfully not that excessive. Give it a go if you wish to do so.

Next up is the Agent Aika series or just AIKa.

AIKa R-16; Virgin Mission

Genres: adventure, comedy, science fiction
Themes: ecchi, fanservice, superpowers, treasure hunting
Number of OVAs: 3
G-Rating: 7.5/10

Plot Summary: Aika Sumeragi, a sixteen year old high school student, offers her services as a C-class Salvager by spreading posters at school after getting her C-class Salvager license. She is immediately hired by Eri Shinkai, Aika’s wealthy class president and founder of the Treasure Hunting Club. After being introduced to Karen Minamino, a mysterious girl with unknown background and a butterfly insignia on her left breast, the club starts an oceanographic expedition on Eri’s private cruiser to uncover the riddles encoded in Karen’s insignia. During their journey more questions arise as Risako Nagisa, the schools form teacher, attempts to sabotage the expedition and capture Karen, and a suspicious underwater airport is found by the team with Aika’s beloved Beluga submarine. While the pieces of the puzzle slowly come together, Karen’s life is turned upside down when the team discovers ancient technology to which Karen is the key and traces of bio genetic experiments.

AIKa Zero

Number of OVAs: 3
G-Rating: 7/10

Plot Summary: Aika’s story continues, she is now 19 years-old, 3 older than in R-16 and 7 younger than in Agent AIKa. Strange phenomena have been occuring at a girls academy. Slowly but persistent the most cute and beautiful girls are joining an internal club, but instead of a sing-in they just get abducted by a strange being that takes control over them by some indecent means. By coincidence Aika was flying-by on her plane when one of this abductions occured and she was attacked to prevent her from comming closer, but instead of repelling her, she is intrigated about the attack origin and then the opportunity shows up when her late partners from R-16 decide to investigate those abductions. The story remains full of action and panty flashing that are a must in Aika’s series.

Agent AIKa
Agent Aika.jpg

Number of OVAs: 7 + 1 special (4.5)
G-Rating: 7/10

Plot Summary: A catastrophic earthquake has left Tokyo, and most of the Earth for that matter, under the sea. Aika is a salvager who retrieves various remains from the watery ruins. When Aika accepts the dangerous mission of locating and obtaining the mysterious Lagu, she discovers that she’s not the only one after it.

As you’ve already guessed, even though Agent Aika (AIKa) came first, the chronological order is R-16, Zero, AIKa.
I can pretty much describe the premise of the entire series in 3 simple words: Catfight, catfight, catfight. That’s right. All the plot summaries you read above, just excuses to get Aika to go and beat the hell out of other babes in varying difficulties. Don’t expect any character development or deep phylisophicla stuff, it’s all about hot chicks rumbling. Sure, most ECCHIMANIA shows are just that but some of them do have heart behind them. This one is basically “what you see is what you get.”

Villains? Aside from the sexy troopers, the villains consist of:
R-16: Clone army
Zero: Alien Space Amazon and her girlfriend
AIKa: Some retard and his “sister”, followed by the remains of his army forming an Anti Aika group.

Why am I spoiling things? Because there’s no need to hide anything with this show.

Animation: the original AIKa is old school animation. Take it for what you will. As for R-16 and Zero, the babes are sexy and the art style is nice.

Music: decent but forgettable.

In conclusion: What else can I say about Aika? It’s a hot blond chick with her buddies beating up many other hot chicks. Take it for what you will. Perfect for male otakus. As for others: It’s something to watch every now and then when you’re in the mood for panty shots and smokin’ 2D bodies wrestling each other.

“Perfect for male otakus.” Ha ha you couldn’t have appraised Aika any better 😀

I watched all 3 sets some time ago but just rewatched R-16 today. It was certainly mindless fun for me. The banters between Eri and Aika were fun to watch.

On a side note I noticed that CR just added Symphongear to simulcast. But alas I haven’t watched the previous seasons yet. So I’ll be marathoning it real soon…
