Yohane The Parhelion Episode 5: Healing the Ghost Fish Empress

After meeting the last of our the nine our daring heroine would be led back to a somber ruler of astral marine life.

Lailaps comments on Yohane's change

We resumed a day after Lailaps’ ominous message to Yohane after she went to sleep. We got another hint that on the Yohane left for the big city it looked like Lailaps didn’t part on the best of terms. In the morning Yohane resumed errand girl duties. The client’s child wasn’t feeling well. She mentioned strange things happening recently. Lailaps sensed it’s connected to the calamity. For some reason only young people like children and teenagers could sense of were haunted by it. As Lailaps commented on Yohane’s change of enjoying Numazu and wanting to help everyone they’re approached by one of Mari’s ghost fishies. She summoned our heroines.

Mari waiting for YohaneThey knew where cultured people wanted a closer look.

Mari recalled a family tome and wanted to share info with the two. Long story short the secret to ending the Calamity was connected to music because this is an idol anime spinoff so of course music played a pivotal role in the main plot. One song strong enough to banish the darkness. A song powered by Resonances. It reminded Yohane of the symbols on her staff each time she made new friends, aka the Aqours gang. She’s about to suggest befriending Mari but the beautiful lady was afraid to open herself to anyone ever again. When she’s younger Mari went to Numazu but appeared to be harshly discriminated against for her “demonic” appearance. She’s emotionally scarred since. Yohane wanting to help Mari reminded Lailaps of how Yohane used to be. As we recall she too was judged by the townsfolk.

Dia and Ruby tell Yohane about Mari's good deedThey went to the smartest person in the multiverse and her precious imouto for help. The Perfect Sisters tried to communicate with Mari but she wouldn’t even open the door for them. However, she did share crucial information that helped save lives from future accidents. She thanked Yohane for sharing information from Mari on the calamity and had a feeling she’d be able to warm the ghost fish queen’s cold heart. This statement coming from The Perfect One meant there’s a one million percent chance of it coming true.

You and Kanan meet RubyAs Yohane thought of how to best help Mari You and Kanan dropped by to share their thoughts. Basically everyone can feel scared by how others perceive them. Even if they’ll gladly accept you sometimes the fear of being misjudged is too strong to come out of your shell. TinkerRuby wanted in on the action and exposed herself. She’s nervous of Kanan and You at first but it didn’t take long to accept their friendship. TinkerRuby turned out to be a great example of what Mari’s going through. She knew how Mari felt and encouraged Yohane to help free her.

Mari wants to give the outside world another chanceYohane tried again by inviting Mari to come check out the newly built swing but Mari refused to budge. We saw a flashback of her being scared and another one of Emperor Ghost Fish King saying her super horns were valuable gifts that could one day help a lot of people. Despite her disappointment Yohane let Mari be. Thankfully it wasn’t long before the empress tried giving the outside world a second chance by accepting Yohane’s invite.

Mari tells Yohane about the negative things she heard people sayYou know, as Mari told Yohane about the sad thoughts she heard people express and was brought down by the negativity it reminded me of someone judging the outside world purely from the crap they read on social media like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the like. We know the negative nitwits online do not represent the large majority of the world but it can still affect us.

Mari shining just a bitHappy Mari is best Mari, even if a small bit.

TsukiHooray! It’s Cousin Tsuki! So glad you weren’t a one-off movie character.

Mari still scared of peopleCousin Tsuki asked Yohane to be her photo model. Unfortunately while posing nearby kids saw the ghost fishies and commented on them. Mari interpreted their reactions as them judging her appearance again. The negative thoughts grew inside and Mari nearly collapsed. Thankfully Yohane was able to help clear her mind. With her mind cleared the people came over to praise her beauty and thank her for alerting them of dangers such as a potential bridge collapse.

YohaMari intensifiedThe Zura is still #1 harem girl but Mari may be a close second. Classic story of earning a demon’s affection by helping them overcome their fears.

Yohane and Mari poseInner Aqours unleashed. She’ll be back to full “SHINING” soon.

The darkness strikes againTo end their healing date Yohane invited Mari to her special place. Unfortunately just as she’s about to treat her to a show the calamity struck again.

Great stuff as always. Next time we’ll see how our heroines escape the darkness and more Riko.

it’s really impressive how they have managed to keep the characters recognisable even in their different forms. like my dearest mari is still mari even if she is still a bit sad rn

also, i have to admit i wasn’t expecting a profound analogy on the way we interact with social media from my yuri reviewer, but i guess that’s why you’re the OG 🙂

Oh yes. They’re still the Aqours we know and love.

I know how she felt. I’ve been there and know people who think ill of humanity because of the garbage on sites like Twitter and Facebook to name a few.

It’s nice to see Yohane finally loosen Mari, but it’s obvious why given that Yohane had a hard time fitting in. But it’s nice to see Ruby deciding not to hide after Kanan and You finds Ruby cute despite her being a fairy. I guess this convinced Yohane to reach out to her. But it’s nice to see her loosen up and the towns people seemingly thanking her.

True, social media in general is toxic for the fact that the algo pushes out stuff to push out engagement, mostly the negative stuff in the so called outrage economy in the quest to generate profits. This is what makes stuff like Mastodon/Fediverse different as there is no profit motive, one just follow the stuff they are interested in. (I’m on there for 7 months and it’s a better experience, but it took time getting used to).

When you are ready to make the jump from X, you can find us on Mastodon at sakurajima (dot) moe.

    Otherwise nice episode.

Happy Mari is best Mari. Glad Yohane was able to free her.

Yup. Social circles suck, especially those that favor negativity.

Eventually will join the elephant gang.

It was quite a lovely sight seeing Mari smile, freed from her fears if only a little. However, Yohane needs to bond with her a bit more before she gets her emblem.

Tsuki, eh? Since she’s a movie character, I don’t really know her. This is just a reminder that I gotta watch the Sunshine movie sometime.
