I do not know if this counts as a Yuri Quickie but I am adding it anyway because I reviewed the main show and it would feel incomplete to not talk about the movie. Besides, there MIGHT be something. Anyway here is a film that felt like watching the first non-recap or spinoff Hibike! Euphonium movie. It is the SHIROBAKO Movie.
Main series review HERE.
Length: 2 hours.
The reason this reminded me of the non-recap Euphonium movie are the following:
It felt like a retread of the main series. In SHIROBAKO’s case, the studio is in terrible shape again with the staff unmotivated or lacking motivation…again. It is up to Aoi to motivate most of them and help bring them back to work on a new anime project with a tight schedule…again. Their main obstacle besides time and motivation is a shady businessman…again. Our heroes engage in an epic animated showdown that is much cooler than what actually happens…again.
By the end of the movie it felt like our main quintet were nowhere near close to achieving their goal of working on their dream anime together. Yes, they got to work together on two anime projects but not THEIRS. On the bright side they learned and experienced some new things to add to their ongoing growth so there is that.
None of the above means the movie sucked. Not at all. It features everything that made the series great from fun cast, discussions of the inner workings and hardships of the animation industry along with the fulfillment of “getting it done” despite it all. Epic scenes that are actually less cool in reality. Plus we got two musical numbers. One made no sense whatsoever but it was quite neat. Fun movie despite it not advancing the series narrative very much in the grand scheme of things. Worth watching if you are a fan of the show.
Ema and Ai live together. Yes, it is the only excuse I have to include this as a Quickie. Does it mean they are dating? I do not know but let me believe they are please. Do not ruin my fantasy.
I see the OG-Man is forever blogging still, what a wonderful sight

This film didn’t click as much with me, but it was still nice to see the girls working on an anime. As always seeing some inner workings of the anime industry was fun.

Because it felt like a retread and didn’t really progress the main story.
