World Dai Star Episode 3: Lunar Defrosting

Glad we got this part over with quickly.

Panda's Sense

We began with what I assume was Part 1 of the Bamboo Forest play. The important thing was seeing Panda’s Sense in action, which was reading minds of the audience members. She used it to read the minds of fans of hers and Chisa’s.

Noa sensed Kathrina's nervousnessNext was a Kathrina interview. Because she’s the daughter of two renowned German World Dai Stars there were high expectations for her. Noa didn’t need her Sense to tell the tsundere was beyond nervous. During a call with her mom Mama told her to just do her best but Kathrina was consumed by the pressure of living up to her famous parents.

Noa talks to Kokona about Kathrina's performanceLater that evening Noa went to Kokona, who was getting a pep talk from Shizuka to be the best Misao she could be (Obviously she failed the audition to play Princess Kaguya), to talk about Kathrina’s performance. Kokona said it’s perfect but Noa argued it’s calculated which to her was boring. Think of it like present day arguments against AI created content. Kathrina’s performance felt…”robotic” or “passionless” to put it nicely. Their first big test, the newcomer performance, was coming up. Noa’s advice to Kokona was to find her true self on stage. We talked about this last episode.

Shizuka tells Kokona what she thinks of herTo start the quest to find “herself” Kokona first asked Shizuka. In short she described her as a stage otaku genki whose feelings get hurt easily but refuses to give up and is full of passion. The next part was understanding her role, meaning to understand the character of Misao. Kokona knew the gist of her character but needed a little more to truly get her.

Kokona and Shizuka's duetMaybe it’s intentional but the story of Princess Kaguya and Misao felt like a metaphor/symbolism of Kokona and Shizuka’s relationship, meaning more another clue about the blue hottie. It was a great duet btw.

Kathrina unfairly berates KokonaDuring one of their auditions Kokona took Noa and Shizuka’s advice to heart and played Misao her way. However, this upset Kathrina unfairly berating our heroine for not playing Misao the “correct” way. Then she turned irate at the staff for something beyond their control, blaming them for distracting her. More on this in a bit.

Kathrina sleepingShizuka wondered why Kokona didn’t ask to switch rooms after that. She endured her bitching for the greater good (the greater good), in this case to put on a great performance by working together. Yae sensed something was off with Kathrina and pretty much told Kokona to use her genki passion to “save her from herself”. This led to our main duo following the grumpy German around in hopes of better understanding her.

Kathrina kabedonUnfortunately they cut off the best part of the mission but we got a kabedon at least. After explaining herself she still got more bitching.

Kathrina's focus shatteredFinally it’s go time. Things went well at first but a small electric malfunction completely shattered Kathrina’s concentration. The weakness of her Sense was one small distraction resulted in incredible stress. We even got a Cinderella’s broken glass slipper metaphor of her shattered confidence.

Kokona's SenseShizuka's SenseThe next HUGE clue about Shizuka’s identity.

Shizuka on stageKokona's Misao protects Kathrina's KaguyaKokona and Shizuka saved the show after that. Words cannot do their awesomeness justice. It’s so powerful Kathrina went from “bitchy tsundere” to “It’s not like I hate you, baka” tsundere. Thank goodness. We got that out of the way quick. To her credit she’s motivated by badass Kokona to stop being a burden and finish the play.

Afterward it’s confirmed Noa and Yamabuki could “sense” Shizuka’s presence. To be precise they had a gut feeling about our lovely pink heroine’s power. Next time looks like our questions will be answered. Is Shizuka Kokona’s ghost girlfriend, her Sense or are they bound together by a shared Sense? We know she’s not imaginary.

The “glass slipper” scene was actually her memories. Or at least that’s how I saw it, cause she looked younger too. Probably something exactly like that happened to her during a performance in Elementary school, and she got some trauma from it.

Everyone sees Shizuka at this moment, even Kathrina (not to mention the audience). Somehow, she’s been materialized. things keep on getting stranger on this show

But not bad in any way! In the interesting sort of strange!

Really invested to see where things go from here, especially now that Kokona is no longer just mimicing someone. She has some pretty strong observational skills though, even without her Sense.

  2. I’m glad things moved along quickly as well, so we can get to all the good stuff. The ending most of all was quite interesting, as we now have a glimpse into her ‘sense’. Though I feel it actually brought more questions than answers as to what Shizuka’s identity really is. I guess we will find out next week. Glad my feeling that she wasn’t just imaginary turned out to be right, but still not sure what her true nature is either. Looking forward to finding out.

Well this show just keeps getting more and more interesting with each ep.

Yes I’m also glad we got over the Kathrina and Kokona situation in this ep. Watching them bicker on and on for any longer would start to get pretty stale.

I to felt that as good as Kathrina is, she’s too calculated and lacking emotion, which of course is a big part of stage performances. Hopefully this is the wake up call for her and we’ll finally start to see her lighten up. Might not be instantly, but we’re making progress.

The Shizuka plot thickens! I’ve honestly been trying to figure out a good explanation for what exactly she is and now it’s starting to make sense after this ep. My take away from this was that Shizuka is Kokona’s ‘Sense’ and she just appears when she’s needed or something like that. As for why people can’t see her normally, I’m sure we’ll get the answers to that next week.

All in all, good ep this week and I’m glad I stuck with this show. It’s shaping up to be a good one!

Kathrina is being buried under that pressure, having all those expectations is rough.
Also her sense does sound really difficult to use, since she has to really concentrate, and her concentration does break in the play itself!
Fortunately Kokona comes to the rescue and even manifests Shizuka, somehow!
Is Shizuka her sense? her STANDO?
Either way super excited to find out the answer next week’s episode!

Kathrina kind of make me feel uneasy given her bossy personality and how mean she was towards Kokona. Noa didn’t lied that Kathrina and Kokona has to take roles as lovers, but it’s not too surprising to see Kokona not get the role. Even if she didn’t copy Yae, I don’t think Kokona would make it.

Still, it’s not too surprising that Kathrina’s sense has a weakness. After seeing Kokona save the performance and from her being humiliated, I do hope Kathrina finally defrosts. Of course, at least a part of Shizuka’s mystery is finally revealed. I wonder if the girls can finally see her besides Kokona now.

i’m glad that others can see Shizuka now — whoever or whatever she might be. It’s more fun than if she’s purely imaginary
