The Magical Revolution Episode 4: Caged Heart

When we last left our heroines we followed Euphie’s emotional struggles over her life pretty much being reset.

After the intro showed a sign of things to come later we joined our main duo exactly as we left them last time with Anis napping on Euphie’s lap. She napped longer than expected which the beautiful noble didn’t seem to mind until Ilia warned the princess about leaving herself vulnerable around the girl she liked. As she stared at the maid tease the princess Euphie felt a strange emotion she couldn’t explain. That was until Anis surprised her and hear heart beat hard once.

Anis felt Euphie’s slightly high body temperature and took her to bed. She felt bad for focusing on building the Rainbow Sword instead of pampering the beautiful maiden. The sword was for Euphie so it wasn’t that bad. As she went on about how cool it was to create it Euphie felt the princess grow distant again thinking a directionless soul like her wasn’t a good fit for someone who knew exactly what they wanted. As Anis noticed her sorrow Euphie finally told her about her lack of purpose going so far as to beg the princess to give her an order, tell her what to do. Give her a reason to exist. Anis was like “If you can’t find a purpose yourself then let’s look for one together. You being with me is all I need. I want to help bring back the smile you lost.”

As Anis helped her lie down Euphie thought something she wasn’t ready for but not entirely against was about to happen. It’s only Episode 4 so not yet. On the bright side her mind was catching up to her heart quicker than expected. In fancier terms she was like “You shine so brightly. You feel so warm my heart aches…I am not worthy of someone as wonderful as you but you are here now and I do not want to let go!”

After being reminded of Prince Al’s existence we joined Euphie the next morning checking out Anis training. Ilia said her fighting style was self taught. The knights taught her the basics but her moves were all hers. Best guess was she remembered the 100 rewatches of that one Jedi battle scene in her past life. Viewers who know, know.

Not knowing what to do Euphie followed Ilia. Being a clever maid she quickly figured out Euphie’s dilemma through her silence and fidgeting.

Ilia: So you feel your worth is based on fulfilling the ideals others have of you. The Princess seems to have a habit of taking in lost lambs.

Euphie: You and Anis have an…unusual relationship.

Ilia: She dislikes being revered for her royal status so I play along with her silliness. I want to praise her, I reaaaaaly do, but she prefers I be her snarky yet caring older sister figure.

I used to be like you actually. My parents groomed me to marry the “old man in the Playboy Mansion”, I did not question them and simply complied. That was until a certain wild princess that did not fit ‘the mold’ entered my life…

Should I ever see them again I would tell them “Hugh Hefner is dead and you can stick your greed right up your ass”.

Euphie: You…are quite unique yourself Miss Ilia.

Ilia: Why thank you Lady Euphyllia.

Euphie: I was not praising you…

Ilia: Anyway I feel a need to help you too. I sense you were sealed in a cage as I was. You have a lot on your mind so please feel free to let it all out and take as much time as you need to find the answers you seek. I wish to help free you like the princess freed me.

As the two had their moment of understanding Anis rushed over with important news.

Very important moment as Euphie expressed another emotion besides sadness or bittersweet joy.

The Adventurers’ Guild had a big mission. A monster stampede was on its way to the capitol. Euphie was shocked to hear Anis was an adventurer. As Anis explained why this was a big deal Euphie still didn’t get why she had to fight monsters, especially the OG boss monster itself. She explained earlier she became an adventurer to gather research materials and make a living outside of her family. As for the dragon it had extremely rare materials and it was too good of an opportunity to let slide. Also adventuring was part of Anis’ identity. It wouldn’t sit right with her if she didn’t do anything to fight it. With Ilia giving her a “there’s no stopping her” head shake and realizing she couldn’t stand by and let Anis fight alone she asked to join her in battle.

Might as well talk about Prince Al next. During a meeting to determine how to best approach the stampede there didn’t seem to be a right answer when suddenly Prince Al entered the chamber. He pretty much asked King Daddy O to let him lead a party against the dragon as he’s that determined to defy his royal destiny. While the king assumed Miss Bazooka was the main motivation it’s actually what we briefly mentioned in Episode 1, Al’s jealousy of Anis. As part of the royal family King Daddy O had close ties with the Force as he could sense the Dark Side growing within his son. He actually knew about the siblings’ strained relationship the moment Anis got more attention thanks to her magicology research. He knew another reason besides what’s mentioned in Episode 2 that she forfeited the throne was she thought Al was a better fit to rule. However, gossip spread about the prince NOT being worthy and perhaps Anis was the right choice after all. As the flames continued to be fanned so did the darkness within grow.

Knowing there’s nothing he could say to stop his son he’s about to assign him the task of fighting the dragon when a messenger reported Anis on her way to where the dragon was last seen.

Great stuff as usual. Though the next episode title spoiled how they’d face the dragon I still eagerly anticipate seeing it.
