Good news and bad news.
The good news is the season will kick off in March 2017 with the Washio Sumi Chapter. The bad news is it’ll be in a three part theatrical format, meaning 3 movies throughout the Spring and Summer with the 1st one premiering in March, 2nd in April and 3rd in July. Unless the viewer lives in Japan and understands Japanese or has a lot of time on their hands the wait for both a RAW…and especially subs for the films will be a long one. No word on when the 2nd season will air but that will put into question whether fans will watch the movies first or watch the 2nd season as it airs? Most likely the latter as it is not 100% necessary to have seen the Togo prequel movies before the events after the 1st season’s conclusion. We’ll see what happens when more details pop up regarding the continuation of the series.
Lastly here’s a 30 second trailer for the movies.

It’s a good opportunity for Japanese fans but not much of a problem for us gaijin since the three theater episodes are just TV previews, meaning that the first movie will likely correspond to eps 1 and 2 of the second season, the second movie episodes 3 and 4 and the third to episodes 5 and 6 (which will conclude the Washio prequel).
So you can expect the time lag between the premiere and subs to be at around 3 months (optimistic) or 6 months (somewhat pessimistic). And the “sequel proper” will take up the remaining six episodes of whatever season the series airs.

Waiting for something so hype worthy is annoying but also worth it.

That’ll be back in season 2 (episodes 7-12), but for now you’ll get to meet Wasshi’s first love (and meet my waifu when she’s not in bandages). 🙂

I guess it would be a really long wait for the DVD/Blu-Ray release, especially for the English Dub.

Yeah don’t expect anything on that dub until 2018. Still looking forward to it since the first season’s dub was excellent.

Oh I have absolutely no problem with this, lol.
I’ve read the novel, and I’ve wanted a movie project since the beginning. I NEVER expected THREE movies AND a TV broadcast version as part of season 2 though. That has gone beyond my expectations. I am beyond hyped, especially because of all the public exposure they (and by extension) the rest of the franchise will be getting because of the theatrical screenings.
Believe me OG, the wait will be worth it. I’m not surprised that season 2 was pushed back to Fall anyway, since that’s when the first season aired two (and what will be three) years ago. The only reason I’m bummed is that I probably won’t get to see the movies ever released here, but maybe a miracle will happen and PonyCanyon will bring them over (either for a theatrical screening or alongside the TV broadcast version, though that might be too redundant for the DVD/Bluray release and it won’t be for over a year and a half or so now anyway).
Also that trailer makes me want to cry, but I’m saving my tears for the real deal. I need to prepare my heart again.
I’M JUST SO FUCKING HAPPY TO SEE MY WAIFU AND HER WAIFUS ANIMATED IN ALL OF THEIR GLORY. ❤
Trust me, OG. If you loved YuunaTougou, you will be ECSTATIC about Sumi/Gin and SonoWasshi.
