Train to the End of the World Episode 2: Water Tracks

Let’s see how short I can keep this one.

Reimi and Akira bickering again

I said last time that Reimi and Akira are very easy to ship and I hope they go there with them but right now I enjoy their token comedy duo banter more so than shipping them. Hopefully that changes over time. Currently I feel more “HAHA!” and less “LV Vision” toward them, basically the bickering sisters who care for each other deep down. Meanwhile Nadeko is still the big sister figure while Shizuru is the leader on a mission. I already mentioned what I hope we get from said mission.

Most of the first half was bickering and discussions about supplies, leaving on the journey without telling most of the village and whether they’re up to the challenge long before they have a chance to turn back as we’d soon see. It got to the point Shizuru’s like “You didn’t have to come along, you know. I wanted to go by myself.” All this as the bitter melon plant on board grew rapidly as they rode into a fog.

The gang meet a strange old manThe girls worried a familiar sea dino silhouette meant the loch-ness monster was approaching but it turned out to be a weird old man. Not going to bother summarizing his crazy talk. Point was he said a lot of “maybes”, warned them not to go to Ikebukuro, not to believe everything without proving what’s said is factual and traded a map for cigs. Afterward they heard a noise from the train tracks. Granny hamster had Train Man turn to normal to send a message via morse code to our heroines. See, while learning how to operate the train she learned the time limit for Train Man turning to normal after putting on his hat was 5 minutes. They also wondered if his condition was the result of mental manipulation prior to the 7G Wave.

Tidal waveSuddenly tidal wave!

Fortunately they were able to ride far enough to not be swallowed whole as the wave simmered. They then remembered the map and took a look.

Weird mapAt first glance the map is not very useful but as someone I will only refer to as “Ace Goodheart Leader of the Team” on Twitter said the pictures could be hints of what awaits at every train stop.

Mushroom headSuch as the next stop being a village of people with mushrooms growing out of their heads.

The main plot didn’t progress but I was highly entertained. Next time I guess it’s mushroom town.

  1. Not much to say about this episode that you didn’t, but I really enjoyed the episode too. The banter between the slapstick pair is the best, but I think all four have really snappy dialogue that plays off each other well. As entertaining as it is so far, I get the sense that we’re gonna get some dark moments too. Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for mushroom town.

that map is definitely foreshadowing, better keep that screenshot handy for future episodes.

find it amusing the others girls found it hard to believe the old guy can turn back into a handsome dude. This is the post 7G world, anything is possible!

i like that our team actually tries to turn back to get more supplies but of course that’s not gonna happen. Notably the tsunami wrecked the rails so they can’t even do the Morse code communication anymore. Now the only way is forward….

I ship em, but I thrive on “bickering couple who can be a manzai act”, so that’s probably why

I can’t really add much, I just loved it, and am very excited for the next episode~

Still a weird show, but I’m interested in seeing how this journey will end up going. Wondering if things will take more of a horror turn in future eps as I think this show would do well with that. Although I personally don’t even like scary stuff.

The wave sequence definitely reminded me of Interstellar as they had quite the wave situation too.

What could possibly go wrong in Mushroom Town? 😅

looks like there’re 2 seasons worth of adventures awaiting them at the different train stations along the way. A few are even blank without any crude hint of what mysteries might entail once there.

    Using Utena’s word of wisdom.

“Your constant bickering is clearly a sign of your close friendship.”

Don’t worry, Remi and Akira will be more than just best friends sooner than later. Not much to say, although the map does foreshadow what is to come. (Also, I suspose that the only way is forward as that wave made it obvious that they have to keep going)

Also, not too sure about trusting that lady. She may look normal, but with a mushroom growing on top of her head, seems a bit sus.
