YMC #87: Iono the Fanatics (by Your Average Joe)

My 12th Manga Review: Iono the Fanatics

Genres: Comedy, Drama, Harem, Polyamory, Romance, Science babies, Yuri

Length: 12 chapters + prologue and omake

By: Fujieda Miyabi

Story (Written by me): A popular and loved queen is obsessed with long black haired women and travels to Japan to find them and make them her Sobame (which according to translation websites means a taken or married women/mistress). She was around 1000 Sobames already.

Brought to us from the same author who made “The Miko’s Words and the Witch’s Incantation” which I absolutely loved. And just like the aforementioned manga, it focuses on the lead Queen Iono-Sama and her love as she goes ‘hunting’ down cuties in Japan to further grow her ever prosperous ranks of black haired women back home.  It’s a fluffy light-hearted story which takes a strange action and betrayal turn in the second half.

One thing I really love about this Manga is that it’s a Yuri Harem, and most of her Sobames want Iono-Sama, yes even sexually. Even more amazing, characters have quoted rarely saying Iono is is love driven and can be devious when in private with others. I love this because typically in Anime and Manga, the generic male is known to be the leader of the Harem and the shown to be a sexual magnet. In this the lead gender role is flipped and Iono is now known to be the ‘player’/womanizer. Yuri Harem shows need to be thing and this Manga needs to be one of the first adaptions.

(This picture has no relevance to my points. Just wanted to show it)

Character development in my opinion is lacking. Not many get their own back story and if they do, it is only a chapter long max. that being said I still enjoyed knowing everyone in the cast as they had their own personality or small quirk which made them lovable.

Yuri: Not much to say except that it is great. In the beginning of the Manga, Iono shows affection for all of her Sobame but around the first quarter, she meets someone extra special and this pair become the primary love interest. Personally I enjoyed all characters but since these two were showcased primarily, I ship them the most.

But I must address the elephant in the room, so much as I love this Manga I can’t help but feel not as attached to this as I do with “The Miko’s Words and the Witch’s Incantation”. The love does feel sincere eventhough it is a Harem. In “Miko” and “Iono” the romance and story are intertwined however in “Iono” the romance does not seem as developed as much as the story creates a starnge action sid-genre near the end as previously mentioned. Still love the Manga though.

So, to conclude:

Forgettable? No. Love the characters, story and romance.

Recommendation? Yes. If you love “The Miko’s Words and the Witch’s Incantation”, you’ll also love this.

Story: 6/10, Characters: 8/10, Overall enjoyment: 9/10, Yuri Goodness: 9/10

Overall Score: 32/40

Thank you for reading! Now that summer is finally here, I will be posting at a more frequent rate. 🙂
