YMC #55: In Between Four Seasons. (By MakoTachi)

This isn’t really a review for a work, but this is more of a ‘spotlight’ type of feature. In Between Four Seasons is a recently released and ongoing work that is featured on smackjeeves. The webcomic describes itself briefly as ,’Marilyn and Rosalie have been dating for a few months, but something doesn’t seem quite right.’ What that means exactly still isn’t revealed yet.

Genres: Romance, Drama, Yuri

Ongoing series.

From the tags this series is said to be a psychological drama with romance put into it. Through out the work you get this sense and tone of foreboding, as if you’re waiting for something bad to happen. The art work is rather simple, but the little attentions to certain details fit with the tone this work seems to be trying to convey. There’s no color to this work. It’s all in black and white, but that just adds more to the feel of this series!

The art style and how scenes are handled and constructed fit well with the theme this work seems to be going for. Honestly, I applaud the creator at creating such wonderful imagery that you can actually get a feel from.

Like I said, the work is still ongoing and is in its early stages of life. (Only 58 pages!) But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t already have a lot to offer. While the art and psychological tag were what initially caught my attention, what also interested me was the fact that the relationship presented had already occurred. The comic starts out with these two girls within a relationship and focuses on their ongoing relationship rather than tells a story of it leading to the relationship. A touch I personally enjoyed! The romance throughout the work is rather sweet and innocent, but it’s nice to see!

So far, the best part of this webcomic has been the chapter that was dedicated to telling the backstory of how the girls met and fell into their relationship. It was short, but sweet, and I felt it captured some of the charm of relationships between young adults. This comic shows a lot of promise and can really go somewhere! I’m excited to see where the creator will take her work.
