The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio Episode 3: Sleepover Radio

It’s almost always the third episode.

Chika enjoying Yumiko's cooking

The intro featured what looked like a Radio Rivals fanboy who appeared to gloat because he was close to making a huge discovery about them. Let’s just finish this part and focus on the good stuff. He eventually discovered they’re both his classmates. Best we can hope is he’s a good fanboy and not a creeper.

On to what we’re here for. Like in the last episode Chika wanted Yumiko and her to partake in an activity because they talked about it on the radio show. Last time it was visiting a butcher shop to check out the croquettes. This time it’s a sleepover at Chika’s place. First up Chika’s excited to eat Yumiko’s omelet rice. The big babe was flattered but hid it behind “It’s to thank you and your mom for having me over”.

Now we get to the REAL good stuff.

Chika teases and enjoys Yumiko's body

For some reason Chika wanted the two to bathe together. Yumiko made a remark saying “even Yuri fans would think this feels forced!”. I don’t know how accurate the translation is but if you are such a fan, there’s the exit. Anyway Chika felt like teasing Yumiko more by getting closer. To her it wasn’t unusual for idols to be chatting naked in the bath because she heard it on another radio show. Yumiko’s like “Because they’re usually at a public bathhouse!” Yumiko tried to keep her on a leash but then Chika was mesmerized by a heavenly sight…

Chika: I apologize for staring, but they are most impressive.

Yumiko: T-they’re no big deal but I guess they are big to you.

Chika: Yes. Mine cannot compare.

Yumiko: Heh. I bet you wanna touch them, huh?

Chika: YES PLEASE! I am eternally grateful for your benevolence.

Yumiko: (Wait. She’s serious!? I guess I can’t really back down now…).

Chika: Please rise from the water. I wish to partake in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Yumiko: Ummm, okay…

Chika explores Yumiko's blessings

Chika explores Yumiko's blessings 2

Again it’s just “coworkers” on the outside but we all know better.

After praising Yumiko’s gorgeous body and our main gyaru misinterpreting it as Chika saying she’s just a pretty face and nothing more we got to another important scene.

Yumiko and Chika talk about becoming seiyu

Chika briefly turned into “Yuhi” and asked “Yasumi” why she became a voice actor. She’s asked the question during an interview but couldn’t answer so she wanted to see how Yumiko would respond in the same position. As a kid she’s a huge Pretty Cure fan and when she learned about voice acting she wanted to one day voice/become one.

It’s Chika’s turn. Her dad worked in animation and she’s a big fan of his work. She wanted to become part of one of his anime, hence voice acting. Mama however, didn’t get the appeal of anime. Chika thought Mama disliked her getting involved in the same field as her ex-husband. After Yumiko showed her support Chika admitted to slowly kinda enjoying the idol side of her job.

Chika's mom

That night after an evening potty she saw the living room light on and met the famous Chika Mama who was a fetching lawyer indeed. Their chat began with Mama asking how Yumiko’s own parents reacted to her decision to become a seiyu. “If that’s what you want to do then go for it”, basically. Mama’s thoughts?

Chika's mom worried for her daughter

Voice acting was an unstable job because you never knew when an opportunity would come nor if the pay would be worthwhile. At first she was fine with Chika joining a theatre troupe but as soon as she got offers to become a seiyu her stomach turned. This feeling worsened when she saw her doing more idol stuff than voice acting. She felt her daughter was being treated like eye candy and little else. Instead of making a fuss she waited for Chika to be disgraced then come crawling back home.

This explains Chika’s initial disdain toward idol stuff.

Yumiko embarrassed about defending Chika

“You’re right about it being an unstable career. Sometimes I feel my efforts are in vain and I get depressed. But let me tell you something. Your daughter is one of the most talented people I have ever met. She has the power to become one of the best in the business. Being her partner is exhausting. It’s tough not being anywhere near as good as her. That being said, I’ll be damned if I let myself become the Marty Jannetty to her Shawn Michaels! My goal is to become as great of a seiyu as she already is!”

Chika poorly pretending to sleep

Like many of us hoped/expected Chika heard the whole thing.

Chika answers Yumiko's resolve

“Hey. Sato. You listen and listen well because I will only tell you this once. I envy you. I am envious of your charisma and charm. I envy how much everyone enjoys being around you. Even my mother likes you! I wish I could express myself as easily as you! Not only that but I see the potential in you. All you need is an opportunity to shine and you will become a truly formidable rival. That is why the person who occupies Yuhi Yugure’s mind the most is you, Yasumi Utatane. Never forget that.”

Translation: I acknowledge you as my #1 raivaru and I am always thinking about you.

Yumiko enthralled by Chika's acknowledgement

Despite her day starting off with another failed audition Yumiko’s heart still fluttered thanks to Chika’s acknowledgement. However, it turned back into despair when she saw Chika’s chosen to voice the main protagonist in a major upcoming mecha anime.

At the radio studio she was hit with yet another painful blow. The Radio Rivals Show was about to end due to not being popular enough. As the cast felt down the final straw that broke Yumiko was Chika’s “Oh” after she revealed the sad news.

Mirei comforts Yumiko

Things were said that Yumiko instantly regretted after Chika stormed off. The worse one was accusing her of flirting with the anime director to get the main role. Mirei, showing us why she’s a pro, noticed Chika’s just as upset as Yumiko was by the news. She just didn’t show it as openly as her. All they had to do was look at the script. Chika would never leave it behind nor would the pages ever be blank. Clear signs she too was affected.

Chika involved in a scandal

Unfortunately as Yumiko practiced her apology she got a call from Otome to Google Yuhi Yugure. The top search result was not pleasant. One of the banes of every idol reared its ugly head.

Excellent episode. The wait to see what happens next will be exhausting.

  1. This show is on a Yuri speedrun and I love it! I didn’t expect this one to be the one to become this obvious so soon, but then again, it fits. Their friendly relationship has also been on a speedrun despite the ‘hate’. Behind closed doors, they are almost close enough to be dating at this point point. The entire sleepover was glorious.

Of course, we can’t have everything go so smoothly, or the show would already be over. I hope the stalker dude will turn out to be friend rather than foe. Also, I bet that ‘scandal’ at the end is totally out of context, but of course the media won’t care. Hopefully they’ll be able to squash it quickly.

And finally, that bold declaration may have well as been a confession tbh. I still stand by my belief that becoming a ‘rival’ in anime is just a euphemism for being secret lovers tbh. I’m looking forward to see their relationship grow, beyond all the drama of course. Good stuff this week for sure.

It was hyped as one of the big two Yuri shows of the season and us finding out why during the magical Number 3 feels fitting.

The bath scene was something else. Still thinking about it as I type this. There were more great moments after the bath too of course.

Yeah. The media doesn’t care about care about the truth. They want numbers. Hope for the best.

When it comes to female centered shows the term “raivaru” may as well be a double entendre for soul mates. Not always the case but more often than not it most certainly is.

That’s beautiful. So much in just three episodes. Out of all the adorable moments, my favourite was Yumiko by herself on the train and that cute sound she makes ^^

I like how sexy things like breast touching happen because Yumiko is so easy for Chika to provoke (and the other way around too). I could see sexy things easily getting out of hand too ^^

She was a “Yuhi” fan after all so one of the actors acknowledging her meant a lot, especially because we know her heart craves Chika’s taco deep down.

It will be a while before they get extra spicy but for now this was most excellent.

That boy is a Sherlock Holmes, hopefully he’s a good kind of fanboy! Also our girls should learn to be more discreet when posting photos I guess lol

More importantly this episode goes into maximum overdrive! The bath scene, bonding moments, drama and that huge cliffhanger ending! We are on a wild ride now!

As an aside the commercial bumper image with Chika and the mech is glorious.

“even Yuri fans would think this feels forced!”

If a yuri fan feels this way they’re not a yuri fans. They’re the fake ones. People who says “yuri-bait” a lot, they’re definitely yuri haters. We’ll always accept any big or small yuri situation. Because that small situation can lead into something bigger with just a small blush on their cheeks.

What a glorious episode this one, the bath scene was wonderful. Chika is a lot gayer than I thought. Also I really don’t like that guy. I think he’s bad news. I hope I’m wrong but I know too much about idol/seiyuu fans in real life. There a lot of crazy ones out there.

I know the kind of bait whiners you speak of. Of course not everyone who cries “bait” is annoying but that’s a topic for another time.

Absolutely. It’s a magical bath time for sure.

Hardcore fanboys usually aren’t portrayed in the best light in media. Hopefully this one is just passionate and not a creep. Not that I care about his existence. I just don’t want him to waste air time that could be spent on more important things rather than his creepiness. We shall see.

I’m not as sure as I wish I could be, but after listening to it again, but this time with JP CC, I think rather than “forced” or something like that, she was saying that things were moving way too fast, even for a yuri work. Rather than a focus on the genuineness of it, it was noting how something like that should take more time before it advances to that level….maybe a sort of way of hiding how embarrassed she was? Which makes the proceeding scene more amusing, because Chika then seeing her reaction, decides to pounce on it, pushing things even faster

of course then, something really bad had to occur to derail that progress. And probably all thanks to the guy who’s felt off since the beginning of the show. And it’s probably just her going to see her dad. It’d be a surprise if he’s actually going to be the one to fix things, but I dunno. I’d rather it be the one who snuck to see their live radio performance that ends up showing up to help. Either way, they need some serious advice on how to handle posting things.

The sleepover date was lovely. From them eating dinner together, bathing together, and then just chilling afterwards together, it was all so wonderful to see.

    Chika’s mom is gorgeous!

A little worried about their classmate finding out who they are, hopefully nothing bad comes from that, but we’ll just have to wait and see how that goes.

Sad news about their radio show. I didn’t expect it to get cancelled only 3 eps into the show. Hopefully it’s not truly the end of it.

Next week will probably be a dramatic one given how this ep ended. Excited and nervous to see how it all goes down.

The whole sleepover date was great from start to finish.

Sexy anime moms are always welcome here

Fingers crossed he isn’t a piece of trash.

Yeah. Otherwise the title wouldn’t make much sense if the titular radio show got cancelled.

      Let’s hope for the best.

That is a nice sleepover episode. Funny how Yasumi mentions yuri context in the bath and Yuhi delivered a nice scene with her. Also, seeing Yuhi rest her head on Yasumi’s head is nice. But it’s interesting to learn more about her, apparently her father working as an animator.

It really seems that Yasumi really liked by mostly everyone, which is obvious what Yuhi really wants.

The drama at the end… The certain section of the Seiyuu fandom is just toxic. Also, Yasumi getting upset at Yuhi for getting a leading role while not having much luck. I have a feeling who is the man in the rumors seem familar.

  9. The Japanese lines for the “even yuri fans” part actually says yuri eigyou or business yuri, which is more like fake yuri to pander to idol fans who are not necessarily or even likely to be yuri fans. It’s more like the vibe of, the idol is flirting with girls and hence isn’t hanging out with guys, and so is still “pure”. So them having a girls only sleepover fits that category.

The key here is that if they go too far in this pretend yuri, the fans might think they are actually lesbian, which would preclude them from ever having a chance of dating them, since I guess some idol culture is the feeling that there might be a chance they will notice you if you support them enough. So they have to balance giving enough of the fake yuri vibes as essentially fan service without making them believe they aren’t straight and have no chance with them. Obviously for yuri fans this is the opposite, where we would prefer it be real than just pretend yuri (you will also hear this term a lot with vtubers, like when Suisei wants to deny her relationship with Miko in Micomet).

So Yumiko is basically saying that them literally taking a bath together might be taking it too far for this business yuri and might alienate the idol fans.
