I’m in Love with the Villainess Episode 4: Magic Mite

Time to meet the GOAT of the show (or so I’ve seen several times from fans). Don’t tell me why though.

Claire makes sure Rae pays attention

We joined our heroines in Magic class. Having “plread” this scene many times Rae wasn’t paying much attention so Claire made sure she did.

Rae turned on by Claire's coolnessDuring target practice as Rae narrated the lesson to viewers, aka she stared off into the clouds, Misha told her not to slack off just because she’s a dual-caster. Rae tried to use a portion of her magic but even that was awesome. As we know standing out wasn’t what she wanted at all. Fortunately her beloved refused to be outdone by the lovesick protag which turned Rae on something fierce.

Misha pretending not to know Rae and ClaireLoved this joke about Misha pretending she didn’t know Rae and Claire as she walked off “South Park style”. A little later Rae did it too. I know some people will be all “But OG. South Park weren’t first ones to use the ‘stick walk’.” True, but like Meduka Meguca and BOCCHI THE ROCK it’s the mainstream’s first exposure to it.

Rae intentionally challenges Claire's egoI need not delve into this class because as a JRPG fan this is basic knowledge. I assume many of my fans and frequent visitors here have played at least a few in their lifetime. More importantly as Rae practiced Earth magic Claire showed off her sexy flames yet again to our heroine’s glee.

One thing worth mentioning about the lesson was the focus on Claire when the professor mentioned that although Water Magic had healing powers it couldn’t revive the dead. Since we only met her father so far I had a hunch where this could be going. Can’t confirm yet but we’ll see. Something else was alluded to but for now I’ll wait and see how events unfold.

Moving right along the Brothers Prince saw our heroines bicker and gave us the classic “You must be really good friends” joke. After denying it Claire asked for Frosty Balls. As she gazed at him and Rae felt annoyed the other bros commended her magic skills and asked if she considered joining the Academy Knights by taking the exam. Despite their impressive description Rae summed up the elite group as just a fancy fantasy themed seitokai. Because it mainly served to reward players with more CGs of the bros she obviously wasn’t interested…until they asked if she wanted to become Claire’s knight.

Rae imagines herself as Claire's knightPrincely X Princess Yuri. That’s all Rae needed to hear.

Claire thought she pulled a fast one on Rae by announcing she too would take the “Seitokai” exam.

Knight Claire“ZOMG! BADASS OJOU-SAMA KNIGHT CLAIRE! Be still my beating heart!”

Seriously, ojou-sama knights in anime are HAWT!

Giant Slime AttackEarlier in the episode we got a silhouette of what looked like two Slimes in the nearby woods. One student dodged a Fireball and it seemed to hit the big Slime causing it to grow. In this world monsters are creatures powered up and mutated by magic crystal thingies or something like that.

Rae helps the professor hold the giant SlimeThe professor tried to fight it but despite being a tri-caster he didn’t know Earth magic but Rae did and lent a hand surprising him with her already advanced magic. This was all thanks to Rae playing this boss event multiple times. Not often you see a turn-based RPG battle minigame in an otome dating sim. Despite their best efforts Rae had a feeling the students going all out wouldn’t be enough to beat it and she’s right.

As the students were all caught in its tentacles Rae was worried…because this was an event that would win players Plus Points with the Prince of choice. Agonizing over the choice Rae hoped fate would intervene as she called out to her one true savior.

Rae forgot Claire got caught tooUnfortunately she forgot said savior got caught too. On the bright side she remembered the best part of the Frosty Balls rescue CG. Fortunately ol’ Picha Frio was there to energize the ojou-sama of our dreams as they teamed up.

Badass Claire Magic FlipShe wasn’t wearing armor but Claire’s certainly a badass ojou-sama. Rae’s blessed.

#ClaireIsLove

Claire somewhat focused on saving RaeVery important.

RalaireWhile everyone praised the pair for saving them Rae went elsewhere. In the game it’s revealed the giant Slime was a mom protecting her baby from the Fireball. Because “monsters” it’d be hard to stop the fight so the best course of action was to adopt the baby Slime as her familiar, Ralaire. Yup, the main future couple’s ship name. Again I don’t know why it’s the “GOAT of all GOATS” yet but surely it’s more than its undeniable cuteness and name origin. We’ll see what happens.

Claire checking if Rae's okayAs they left the forest Rae saw something she dreaded. Claire earning Frosty Points. As she’s about to run from a sight that would haunt her for years to come she’s spared by a twig. Rae got to enjoy Claire worried for her safety.

Earlier in the episode Claire asked why Rae didn’t think much of the teachers praising her strong magic potential to which she jokingly said “the only one whose praise I’d care about is yours Miss Claire.”

Rae treasures Claire's complimentShe wasn’t joking as seen here when Claire gave her a “That’ll do pig. That’ll do” compliment.

Claire discovers RalaireAfter the ED Misha discovered Ralaire and Rae convinced her to become her auntie. They tried to keep her a secret as long as they could but her future other mom eventually found out. Misha looked lovely in her jammies BTW.

Great stuff as usual. Next time it’s the “Seitokai” exam.

I absolutely loved the moment when Claire forgot about the prince and ran to Rae instead. Aww.

I also love that Claire’s hair is naturally straight. Such a charming small detail.

Claire was SOO COOOOL this episode! (also Prince Gloomyguts was there too, I guess) Is this what Rae sees every time she looks at Claire? I could fall in love with that. I loved that, even though she’s OP, Rae still has trouble with practical application of magic. She used way too much power in the initial practice, and was so busy trying to subvert an event flag, that she ended up nearly triggering one for Claire.

What a great episode, not only did we get to see Claire being awesome, for Rae’s sake, but, we also got to meet Relaire.

I do enjoy finding different ways of saying “cold penis” even though I’ve mostly used Spanish/Papiamento thus far.

Claire showed yet again why Rae is a girl with great taste.

The best kinds of isekai characters are those who don’t get 1-hit kill wins and everyone’s like “WHOOOOAAAAAA!!!!!”. Despite being OP she isn’t almighty.

Baby slime named after her future two stepmoms. Lovely.

I’m not going to discuss any of the differences, but this definitely seems to be going the manga route over the LN. A bit unfortunate, as I’m really fond of the LN, and also a bit no really odd.

Really enjoyable ep either way, and Ralaire finally makes her debut! I was doing everything I could to not use that name when I commented on the last episode, knowing she was coming XD

I didn’t realize so many people were hyped about Torrid Magic… Oh, Ralaire, that makes more sense. 😛

Adoptive mommy Rae is excellent. Time to get the wife onboard.

As always, a good episode. I find it funny how Rae keep putting up walls with her earth magic for fun as Claire tears down the wall Rae builds. Yes, there is that prince moment, but I find it funny how Rae breaks it by stepping on a twig to divert Claire’s attention away from him. Nice.

At least it’s nice to see the introduction of Ralaire (obviously who it’s named after), and seeing Claire’s reaction to Ralaire is funny, but we’ll see her full reaction next episode.

The look on Rae’s face when she saw Claire with Prince Frosty. Just a little bit more. We need Ojousama Knight. Rae is unlocking Claire’s route you’d love to see. Ralaire name reminds me of Assault Lily’s Yuri who’s also the couple’s name of Yuyu and Riri.

Fire strong against earth? yeah tell that again after I wipe Blaine off the face of the earth with my pokemon that knows Earthquake.

Rae getting a slime monster partner was one of the things I vaguely remembered from the novel, the little guy looks so cute.

Also end credit scene huh! I guess I really should stick around when watching anime EDs. Never know when the producers want to make like MCU with end credit scene…

Just a slight correction, it was wind magic the prof. didn’t know since if he had known it, that water slime would’ve been subdued in seconds by him(since Wind>Water in this world).

Princes Rod/Yu: Rae, with you skills, you could join the Academy Knights. You up for it?
    Rae: Meh, not really interested.
R/Y: Really? That’s a shame. If you had joined, you could’ve been Claire’s knight in shining armor.
Rae: …Where do I sign up?
Claire: Whatever fantasies you had imagined, commoner, put them to rest for I will be taking the test to be an Academy Knight!
    Rae: …That’s…EVEN BETTER!
    Claire: Wha-!?
Indeed, Ojou knights are great. Rae as a gallant knight also looked awesome.

Heh, clever naming sense you got there, Rae. Now to see if Claire will be willing to accept this cute little blob.
