Yuri Talk: May-December Couples

WARNING! This post will discuss the subject of lesbian relationships between adult teachers and (usually) high school students.

Runa and Takako, the most well known age-gap yuri coupleI don’t get it. No matter how many times I read comments by grown men (and some women, I suppose) about how they like how hot animated girls look in either skimpy outfits or lolita clothing, I fail to see what the sexual appeal is. they tell me it’s just a fetish but that does not make it any less comfortable being around those kind of otakus. Sure, I’m guilty of finding little girls adorable, but that’s just it, they’re adorable (not all of them, mind you. Some I want to downright decapitate). I don’t see any reason to be sexually attracted to girls who have not developed breasts yet, busty or flat. The same goes for other people who dig little boys whose strudels are barely noticeable.

The point I tried to make in the above paragraph was that I get uncomfortable near lolicons and shotacons. That being said, SOMETIMES a show or comic pops up where the concept of a teacher and a grade school student possibly having romantic feelings for one another can be watchable/readable…IF DONE RIGHT! Basically both lovers have to be likable, but most importantly, take their relationship seriously and be prepared to face the consequences of said relationship. I need to see that the story being told is not for the sake of fulfilling a fetish and nothing else. If it is not meant to be taken seriously, like in Hanamaru Kindergarten for example, then make sure it is at least sweet.

Pure Water AdolescenceThis short series is the closest one I could think of to illustrate my next point.

That’s grade school level. High school and college on the other hand, is slightly different. Obviously, real teachers who are exposed for have relationships with students will be seen as criminals, desperate and the butt of late night talk show jokes. However, what about fictional May-December couples, particularly yuri ones? Well, from my experience, they’re handled quite well…in manga form anyway. I don’t know that many (if any) yurirific student X teacher pairings. Anyway, most of the time when the manga isn’t portraying them as fluffy or explicitly sexual (those are decent reads btw), they show both sides of the pairing and how they feel about their relationship as it progresses. Will they be able to accept their globally taboo romance or can they work something out? That and other topics tackled in the few yuri manga that deal with this kind of pairing are what attracts me to it. Oh…and the fact that I’m a milf-o-maniac also helps increase my enjoyment of the manga. I suppose I cannot deny that these matters are also dealt with in hetero student/teacher anime and manga…I think. I haven’t seen or read that many to confirm this…except Kodomo no Jikan and Hanamaru Kindergarten. (which are both really good if given a chance.)

teacher's pet, an NSFW yuri one-shotOverall, May-December/Age-Gap yuri is a difficult romance genre to tackle, but when done right (Meaning it isn’t fetish porn or oversexified) it can range from watchable/readable to good. As always, your thoughts, criticisms and the like are welcome and appreciated.

P.S.: MomXDaughter incest doesn’t count as I made clear in my Sisterly Love and Twincest Yuri Talk episode.

I’m ok with it as long as the age difference isn’t big and there aren’t over-possessive behaviors there- which is found… almost nowhere lol. If there’s sex, it’s better if the student has visible breasts- it at least helps destructing me

“It helps destructing me”. Oh yes, I bet your get “destructed” very often…”lmao for no reason.”

Nope. I have yet to read a manga or play a visual novel where there is possessiveness from either side of a May-December couple.

Back to serious mode. You are correct, age-gap sex should ONLY be visible when the younger of the two has visible breasts and is at least 5 feet tall.

uhm I can point out one that is mildy possessive, yet equally disturbing for me- and you have it in your post, i.e. Pure Water Adolescence (that scene where they decide to stay at home because they were jealous of other people looking at their loved ones was a bit twisted mentally)

I’ll take a refresher course on PWA to notice how heavy the possessiveness is and whether it ruins lowers the couple’s credibility or not. Thanks for the heads up dood.

I am not a lolicon unfortunately and I also not so comfortable about seeing little girl being fetishized but possibly it is the body type…
I mean maybe they like the girl flat, or boy’s thing small, or something like that…

Maybe also they like little kid, but don’t understand exactly what they need to do to pour they likeness, so it build up over-over and resulted in using them as fetish object…
In this case the “good way” would be they act like parent or big sister/brother to the kid instead of fetishized them…

Or they like it because it is wrong…
I have a friend who specifically enjoy anime/manga because of that…
He is a good guy, but yeah… People have their own side I guess…

Those just the possibility I have in my head…

Hoshikawa GInza – is that the right title? – would probably the longest (from elementary to university) and the most bittersweet journey story I’ve read about this…
They have happy end but believable obstacle wait for them…

I don’t get lolicons and shotacons either. If a girl has some boobs and a nice figure, then she could be hot even if the writer says she’s 6 years old. When I see people go crazy over characters that actually look like kids though, I just go “huh?”

I remember watching Kodomo no Jikan because someone told me it’s not as bad as most people make it out to be. He was right, but I didn’t think it was that great either. The only episode I really felt anything for was the one where the girl’s mom dies.

Indeed. There have been many voluptuous vixens with gorgeous curves that are younger than they appear…because the plot said so.

I can understand why some people didn’t enjoy KnJ that much. I liked it a lot more than you did because it took what was initially seen (and obviously ignored by many) as a lolicon lure and turned it into something that could be taken seriously. Granted, not everything on the show was great, but what worked, worked very well.

I think that an age-gap where one person is in high school and the other an adult is okay (with regards to fiction, of course). But not so much with an adult and an elementary, or middle schooler.
With regards to their body type, well I personally like petite girls, so small breasts are okay to me (I actually like them better). But yeah, even if there was like a middle schooler who develops earlier, I still can’t picture, or rather, be comfortable, seeing them with someone who’s significantly older.
