Citrus Episode 5: Restart Button

When last we left our gay gyaru heroine she was confronted with the dilemma of her beloved half-robot crush possibly having been entranced by another. Let’s find out how she responded.

What a beautiful smile.

We followed Yuzu and Shattered Himeko on their way to Mei-Tron’s office to invite her on a lunch date with the Shattered One rubbing salt on Yuzu’s wound all the way. Unfortunately for both ladies the mechanical one was busy.

Harumin’s special compartment coming in handy once again.

While begrudgingly having lunch together our savior joined Yuzu for some munching. She got some tickets to the amusement park and offered Yuzu and a few others to come along. Yuzu and Shattered Himeko took this chance to ask Mei-Tron on a date. Yuzu was about to jot it down on her calendar when she noticed tomorrow being the 15th of a certain month…

Back home Yuzu found a letter addressed to Mei-Tron from Professor Father. She found her in the shower and offered to read it but Mei’s human side rushed over to stop her. Instead she later coerced Mei to come along and visit her dad tomorrow.

Angry Himeko.jpg

“Aihara of Yuzu…I will DELETE YOU!”

The next day when Shattered Himeko learned the two had gone out she took it better than I thought she would.

On their way they got into a crowded train and were forced to stand really close together. Yuzu’s breathing got a reaction from Mei-Tron so she took it as an opportunity to get an advantage over Himeko. Mei-Tron asked what the big idea was and she told her of the Shattered One’s words…

Calm rage.

Her human side didn’t take kindly to Yuzu’s actions. To make up for it she bought her a crepe.

The bright side was she got another sweet treat alongside the crepe.

DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!

Unfortunately for Yuzu the Shattered One was guided by the Seven Lily Deities to their location and was about to DELETE Aihara of Yuzu but was stopped by Mei-Tron who was like “This unit does not recall ever forming a consensual contract with the former Drill Sergeant. Do not misinform Yuzu.”

Afterward the sisters visited Yuzu’s dad’s…grave. He passed away when she was three. She introduced Mei-Tron to her and robo-hermana in turn paid her respects. She then told Yuzu that she hadn’t ever opened the letters Professor Father sent out of fear of the messages within. Yuzu assured her she’d help the two patch up their relationship.

Mei's honest smile.jpg

Mei’s honest smile.

This response got the most human smile out of Mei yet. Seeing this hit Yuzu HARD! So much so she had a private cry and put her hunger for buffalo mecha wings on hold. “What Mei needs isn’t love but a family”. As Yuzu cried her heart out Mei-Tron’s body temperature reached critical levels”

The next day she collapsed from a fever due to overexerting/overworking herself. Himeko offered to take her place but Mei harshly scolded her. Yuzu stepped in to calm things down and told Himeko to take care of business while she took Mei to the nurse’s office.

When Mei woke up she wanted to get back to work but Yuzu wouldn’t let her. She told her the reason she worked hard was to become the new principal. When Yuzu said “why not the professor” she agreed and calmed down. Mei eagerly anticipated that day…just like Yuzu anticipated the day she would think of her as much as she thought about the professor.

Yuzu also told Mei-Tron to patch things up with Himeko, whose Shattered Brilliance disappeared when Mei-Tron basically rejected her advances. At least they’re still good friends. Meanwhile Yuzu lamented not being able to chase after Mei-Tron as a potential lover for the time being but knew it was for the best. She hit the restart button. After school there was someone at the door..,

Tune in next time to see what Mei-Tron will do now that her esteemed creator had returned.

No “Serious notes” this episode as I don’t have much to add. It was a good episode.

I strongly believe that Harumin’s “compartment” is like an alternate dimensional pocket where she can stuff the most vital items for “emergency” situations. But UGH!, they cut out the part where Yuzu attended Best Girl’s “Failed Love Hair Cutting Ceremony”, I’ve been waiting for this part from the manga and now THIS?…..UNACCEPTABLE. Also, Harumin spinoff please Sarutobia.

Finally, the Eyebrows have tasted karma for her travesty, she could only do so much standing in Yuzu’s way before the Android shuts her down, hopefully she will learn from this and stay with Suzuran (and yes, I’m a fan of Shira-pon).

I don’t think that the Android-imouto got restarted but more like Yuzu earned herself a premium membership and bonus for her never ending hardwork. But whatever the case, the Android has finally shown her human side.

I said this before but I SO WANT a Harumin spinoff.

I haven’t read the manga in years so I dunno who those two are.

Yes. The anime is a breath of fresh air for the series.

  2. This was honestly a really good episode. Nobody being abusive much for once, and even when Yuzu almost tried to be a little, Mei actually shut her down for once. Though…this episode also had a near-critical lack of Harumin, with only one scene with her in it. But if they go to the amusement park next episode or somesuch, then we will see more of her? Please maybe yes?

Though despite that, Harumin’s one scene was still brilliant enough to earn her more points on top of her existing ones, further ensuring her position as best girl.

Yuzu got quite a few points this episode, due to thinking things through, being perceptive, thinking of other people, trying to be a good person, etc. Though while I think Yuzu’s decision to “be an older sister, and be family to Mei above pursuing a relationship” is a good thing for the moment, and absolutely something Mei needs, I have a feeling it might be leading to more drama/trouble somewhere down the line…

This is actually the first episode where Mei-Tron gains points! For being honest about at least some stuff, actually turning people down when she’s not interested (even if was pretty harsh at times), and indeed, for showing human emotions, which the anime improves upon, I hear.

Eyebrows was on the verge of losing further points a few times, but her doggie being adorable, being at least increasingly reasonable towards the end of the episode, and her making up with Mei at the end earned her enough to keep her stable, at least, if not earn her a couple points.

Also, angry Mei is scary. Yikes. Robot anger is a thing to watch out for, it seems.

Also, I wonder when the three characters in the OP who haven’t yet appeared are going to…soonish? In a while?

Why yes. the lack of Best Girl goodness was felt but as you said she made her few minutes of screen time count as usual. she’s that damn awesome. Yes. Hopefully she’ll get more to do at the park.

      Yuzu was wonderful this episode.

Mei-Tron’s dormant humanity is resurfacing slowly but surely. As I said in previous episodes when I brought it up, Mei’s depiction in the anime greatly surpassed that of the manga imo.

Himeko’s chapter is complete and it ended on a positive note.

      Indeed.

Professor Father’s chapter is up next of course, followed by pinky’s and later the twins’…the twins.

I mainly read your blog for the way you write, robo-hermana had me laughing out loud, I can’t wait to see Matsuri I think she’s my favorite eh drama enhancing character yet, I notice in the anime Yuzu is even cuter and less silly than in manga, by silly I mean I feel she’s genuinely clueless as opposed as being a rushy air-head and even Mecha-Mei has a soul and all in that body. I am super glad you are covering this, I started slow start in another note, cos I saw you were covering.

thanks for providing so much yuri goodness!

Another fantastic episode! I was actually slightly surprised we got Mei’s pops already, but then again, not really because the episode events made it predictable even if I hadn’t known it would be happening soon. I was just expecting it next episode. Either way, I was happy to finally see him in the anime. I’m happy to see we’re finally going to get our favorite troublemaker next week too. This adaptation continues to impress me.

I’m quite interested in said troublemaker’s chapter.
With how well they’ve humanized Mei-Tron so far I’m sure that after the Professor Father chapter non-manga readers will have a better understanding of her robotization.

    that’s great and all, but
wasn’t that a HxH reference? the scene where Mei gets her panties in a bunch

    anyway
I think I’ll stick with it just because it’s more yuri and more yuri is more yuri
