Management of Novice Alchemist Episode 8: Raivarus and Triggers

Sarasa got a rival but it didn’t mean what some hoped.

Sarasa introduces the party to shaved ice

We joined our main girl introducing her future spouse and homies to the sweet wonder that is shaved ice…and a mischief maker’s favorite trick the brain freeze. Good thing for Sarasa Mr Andre came in the nick of time.

Lorea's tragic revealThe fun times took a brief pause when Mr Andre told them about a rival salesman taking advantage of the Frost Bat fang boom to make a profit from their sudden resurgence in those parts. He sold them for high prices and was making business rough for Sarasa. However, the most important detail was he saw what looked like the salesman in cahoots with bandits. Sarasa’s face in the above screen grab told the story. She did her best to hide her true feelings on the matter as the gang discussed the connection between the salesman, his scheme and the bandits. Iris and Kate deduced the salesman had a grudge against Sarasa. Lorea wondered how anyone could hate her beloved. The ladies said business cutthroats didn’t need personal reasons to hold grudges. Jealousy was enough. When they used her dad as an example Lorea panicked, worrying the bandits may go after him. She revealed her grandparents were killed by them and once more Sarasa’s reaction told the story. When she finally said something she confidently promised to punish the bandits if they were to get in the way.

Remember this…

Cutthroat SarasaAnyway Sarasa switched gears when it’s confirmed she was the salesman’s target. She wickedly showed she too could be a cutthroat saleswoman and it became a cat and mouse game to see who would outlast the other.

NovicessaAs we can see Sara-, I mean Novicessa was having a grand time.

Sarasa wants Iris and Kate's powerWhen it became clear the raivaru was a tough customer Sarasa knew exactly who to call for help. No, not Mistress Ophelia. She had another sexy lady on her side. Before that Iris and Kate made a remark about her “size” and Sarasa suggested they pay off their debt using their greatest assets. She’s half joking of course as she could easily use alchemy to turn herself into a sexy beast but because she respected the body GOD helped her parents conceive she didn’t. They acknowledged how much she loved her parents but Sarasa said because of their job she didn’t see them home often but still enough to develop a bond with them. Take note of her leaving out the part about them being murdered by bandits. I’ll explain why at the end.

Leonora's assistant wifeWe know by now in this world when a female alchemist has a female assistant it means they’re married.

So yes. Leonora’s back along with her lovely spouse. She looked up the shady salesman and learned he’s a known con man named “Gree Dilly” in English. The important part was he made deals with bandits to attack unsuspecting alchemists, especially young ones, and drive them into debt and repay it by working for him. Despite obviously being a bastard like any real life corrupt businessman he found ways around the law. He suspected Sarasa’s easy pickings which was why he targeted her. If he only knew.

Sarasa surrounded by banditsShe rushed home to take action but got surrounded by the bandits in the forest. I don’t think I need to go into detail about what happened next. Let’s just say the Blu-Ray release may include additional content in certain scenes…

We ended the episode with Sarasa gleefully showing Gree Dilly why she was the superior saleswoman and her saying she’d use the bamboozled money to help the alchemists he screwed over.

Important Lorea commentRemember what I said about Sarasa leaving out the “bandits killed my parents” part? Pay close attention to Lorea’s reactions from the point she told her story to the end of the episode. This definitely won’t be the last time we hear about this topic.

Good stuff as always.

  1. It’s definitely true, having a wife is a requirement for a female alchemist to own a shop. So glad to add another pairing into this wonderful world of gay alchemists. Soon enough, Sarasa and Lorea will seal the deal and make it official.

It was great seeing Sarasa show off her business cunning and get over on her shady competition. That’ll teach them from messing with her again. Those bandits certainly learned a hard lesson. Sarasa will show no mercy after what they did to her parents and now, knowing about Lorea’s grandparents, she’s got another reason. She certainly proved she’s not just the sweet darling she may appear to be…

Really great stuff as usual, and I’m sure the topic of the bandits killing their loved ones will come up again. Until then, looking forward to more alchemy adventures.

What a wonderful requirement for cultured female alchemists. Bless.

Sarasa and Lorea surely are heading in that direction after the surprise reveal about Lorea.

Sarasa sure let those bandits have it. Bandits who value their lives best retire or stay far away from her.

    Ruthless mode Sarasa is ❤

It was unfortunate she’s still keeping it from Lorea, but as Jobko would put it “Japanese sensibilities” got in the way. One day, I’m sure it’ll be a thing. Hopefully the source already went over this, so the anime still has a chance to give us that scene. I’m sure it’ll be quite emotional either way.

Sarasa just had too many good moments this episode! She turned that merchant into ash XD I look forward to more adventures! Also, Sarasa’s got a profit streak going even!!

    Gree Dilly.
As an Ace Attorney fan this level of naming is goddamn hilarious.

Sarasa pulling that ice shavings prank on the other girls. total classic prank lol

Sarasa’s business sense is sharp as always as she traps the greedy merchant.

The way they framed the bandit scene, did she really took them to their maker or am I reading too much into this.

The ice cone trick never gets old.

It’s interesting that Lorea experienced something that Sarasa did, which makes something they have in common. Still, I wonder when she will reveal this fact to her.

Also, not too surprising to see Lenora have a partner, but obviously they are a couple. They have to be.

Lastly, it’s nice how Sarasa outsmarted the merchant and beaten up all the bandits. It looks like they underestimated her. Also, her disguise is cool.

It’s very clear that Sarasa’s thoughts goes to dark places when the topic of bandits and what they do come up. It was compounded further after Lorea revealed her painful loss because of these scoundrels. In addition to all that, hearing about what her fellow alchemists were going through under Gree Dilly and remembering what her father told her, unleashing all her unforgiving rage on today’s band of ne’er-do-wells was definitely cathartic.

Banditry aside, Sarasa was having tons of fun tearing Mr. Dilly’s shady enterprise to shreds. A douchebag he may have been but his presence was a nice opportunity for Sarasa to flex her business know-how so thanks for that 😉 . He truly messed with the wrong novice alchemist.

Back to banditry, Sarasa and Reina (Average Abilities) should team up and become bandit busters. None would succeed in their evil deeds with those two around 😉 .

Sarasa pretends to be jealous of Iris and Kate’s “assets”, but we cultured know it’s just an excuse for her to feel them up.

Not a whole lot more to add, it was a fairly straightforward ep this week.

Nice to see Leonora back again and this time with her lovely wife. Nice detail this week. Hope we see more of them in the coming eps!

When Sarasa gets on her dark side, she’s quite ruthless. She’s got no qualms about putting down those bandits. For a cute and fun show, there are certainty some darker moments here and there.

Gree Dilly got what was coming for him. Sarasa didn’t have to beat him with force, rather she ran her business properly and came out on top. She’s a fine businesswoman.

    Looking forward to next time!

So based on those shaved ice colors and their swimsuit colors in episode 6, we can safely confirm each girls’ color representations I guess?

If that was the case, is this somewhat become indirectly hinting at what would likely to be the canon pair later or something? since most of the times red/pink and blue has tendency to be paired with each other, be it on yuri/yaoi or straight romance story.
