OG’s Summer 2022 Anime Picks

I thought Summer would be a more chill season for me but after seeing the lineup, while not as stacked as Spring, there are plenty of hype shows on my radar. As always schedule subject to change and I will not cover every anime mentioned.

MUST WATCH

RWBY: Ice Queendom. A RWBY anime set in a different universe from all other RWBY adaptations (main web series, comics, video games). Based on the title and some art Weiss will be central to the plot and if the main trailer is to be believed WhiteRose fans may finally get what they wanted for years in this story. This will be the first RWBY series I plan on covering weekly.

Shadows House 2: The thrilling mystery suspense show that hit peeps by storm in 2021 continues. The cover indicates an especially intimate side-couple will get more screen time. Excited to see what they have to offer along with more EmiliKate goodness.

Luminous Witches: After several delays the highly anticipated third series in the World Witches franchise finally has a set premiere date this Summer. What makes this group interesting is they are not fighters but healers who soothe the minds and hearts of victims of Neuroi War. Basically Strike Witches X Healer Girl. Dunno if we’ll get crazy visual effects or just cool songs but I’m pumped either way.

Tokyo Mew Mew New. This is a personal pick. I have a soft spot for the original Tokyo Mew Mew. I even enjoyed the 4Kids English dubbed Mew Mew Power. I won’t cover it weekly because if it’s anything like the original a lot of it will be an Ichigo het harem. At best if all goes as planned, meaning Mint X Zakuro are either kept intact or HOPEFULLY enhanced, expect a Yuri Quickie at the end and random tweets about the show. Excited to see what they’ll do in this remake/soft reboot/sequel/whatever it will be.

Lycoris Recoil: The most interesting original of the season, meaning I have no idea what to expect but based on trailers and the description of it being about restaurant that serves food and does various odd jobs from chaperoning to zombie hunting, plus the main cast are mostly ladies with a cool black male owner I’m sold.

Love Live! Superstar!! 2: Fans of the Love Live anime as a whole were truly blessed this year. Not only did we get the awesome Nijigasaki S2 but coming right after is the 2nd season of Liella! The cherry on top as seen in the cover 4 new girls will join the team to complete the traditional series set of 9 members. Excited to see what the new girls will bring to the table, especially the red and blue haired duo. Peeps who looked them up will know what I mean.

Merm4id will be part of an upcoming D4DJ special, D4DJ: Double Mix, introducing non-mobile game players to two groups who were mentioned but didn’t do much in the 1st season. This will serve as hype for the upcoming 2nd season in early 2023. Merm4id hype!

KAKEGURUI TWIN: Spinoff starring the 2nd protagonist of the series, Mary Saotome. Hopefully it’s as crazy and gay as the main show. It’ll air on Netflix this August. Whether it’ll be all episodes at once or the usual two cour split between seasons (sometimes two) I’m pumped for more crazy gamblers.

Curiosities

Teppen—!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: Not to be confused with the Capcom game of the same name (minus the 16 exclamation marks). Looks like another comedienne (female comedians) show similar to Joshiraku and Maesetsu!. Dunno how it’ll differ from them but I’m intrigued.

Extreme Hearts: Looks like a sports idol anime. As the cover shows they do plenty like basketball, baseball, futbol etc. Will be interesting to see how they balance the sports and idol stuff.

Warau Arsnotoria Sun: Another anime based on a mobile game. The ladies look nice. Noticed there’s a male group in the game too. If they appear in the anime hopefully they won’t have major roles.

SHINEPOST: An idol show with the leads supposedly having a male manager. We’ll see how it goes.

Prima Doll: Girls look cute. That’s all I know about it. We’ll probably learn more as the premiere date approaches.

PS: Mysterious Maid, the 2nd anime based on a manga by the creator of Jahy-Sama will get an anime this Summer. My hope is that after it the 3rd series, “Best Oppai in the World”, gets an anime too. If not there’s no justice in this world.

PS 2: I have no interest in watching Jashin-chan Dropkick S3. Stopped caring about the series after the first season.
