459th G-View: Slow Loop

We already had a pretty good fishing girls show in Houkago Teibou Nisshi so another one was quite welcome, especially since fishing mini-games are big among chill gamers. I do not know why myself but they are popular. Anyway let us find out if this second fishing girls show is another good one as we take a look at Slow Loop.

Slow Loop Poster

Genres: Comedy, Drama, Iyshikei

Themes: Cooking, Family, Fishing, Sisters, Yuri.

Number of Episodes: 12

G-Rating: 8/10

Plot Summary: Hiyori is a girl who enjoys fly fishing by the beach, an activity passed down to her by her late father. On one typical day at the beach, she happens to meet Koharu, who is her stepsister from her mother’s new marriage.

Koharu adores watching Hiyori fishBest way to describe Slow Loop is a three part show. One part is the classic “Cute Girls Doing Cute Things” at home, school or camp in this case.

Koharu tries to fishThe second part is of course fishing. Viewers get to learn alongside Koharu, who is inexperienced, more about fishing and viewers of the above mentioned anime can refresh their memories along with learn new stuff as Hiyori practices fly fishing over the more well known method. Both styles have their differences. Not to worry as classic fishing is covered too along with kinds of bait and some tidbits about the fishes themselves.

Hiyori, Koharu and their parentsThe third is about two families who experienced great tragedies coming together in hopes of slowly filling the emptiness in their hearts. It is presented in a lighthearted yet still effective way here with some legitimately strong moments. Despite the trope presented being tiresome it served its purpose quite well.

The presentation is cute and wonderful with the girls’ moe goodness and the beautiful seaside and mountain/riverbank setting. Yuru Camp crossover please. The fishing action ranges from chill to sometimes cool. The soundtrack is equally cute with a cute OP and ED. Alas no beach episode despite an early swimsuit tease. Some minor sexiness here and there at least.

Hiyori meets KoharuHiyori and Koi have a momentThe timid/socially awkward Hiyori has two options for potential suitors. Her lovable genki stepsister Koharu and her shrewd businesswoman with a timid underbelly bestie Koi. She has equally powerful moments with both. Not Citrus levels of intensity but still nice. There are other ships and one blossoming romance that may remind viewers of a certain dragon lover.

Overall Slow Loop is another very enjoyable fishing girls series that has more light yet effective drama sprinkled in. The cast are great, presentation wonderful and yuri lovely. Recommended to Girls’ Club aficionados and people looking for more cute fishing girls.

Much like Houkago Teibo Nisshi I felt like I learned a little bit about fishing!
This show is a bit cuter but they’re both adorable shows.

I really enjoyed the slice of life stuff and Koharu learning how to fish.
The friendship (or more!) between Koharu, Koi and Hiyori is also beautiful.
And of course I like the bits about the family getting together. Its really sweet.

This was another lovely addition to the genre.

Koharu’s sense of humour cracked me up and her cooking segments(as well as others) were very informative. I loved Koi’s personality and her expressions. Hiyori is not at a loss in terms of potential mates, that’s for sure.

Like with most Manga Time Kirara adaptations, I did enjoy Slow Loop a lot and the relationship with Hiyori and Koharu are nice. Koi is a great addition. The other pairings are also nice, but overall, a fluffier version of Houkago Teibou Nisshi

Not a whole lot to add that you haven’t already said.

Solid cute girls doing cute things show, not as fishing heavy as Houkago Teibo Nisshi was, but still had a healthy dose of fishing action along with a good food part to the show too.

Koharu, Hiyori, and Koi were excellent main characters and they were enjoyable to watch each week. The drama wasn’t heavy or anything, which was nice, but like you said effective in getting across what it needed to without beating you over the head repeatedly.

I think my only real complaint was that we never got to see Ichika in a bikini.

All in all it was a good anime and I’m glad to have watched it.

Because it wasn’t all about fishing.

Precisely. This being an iyashikei it kept the drama light but serious enough to get the point across.

No swimsuit episode is its only minor issue. Very minor.

  5. Nothing much to add here that you didn’t say. This was an enjoyable SoL with a lovable cast. Whichever mate Hiyori may end up with in the future, she certainly can’t lose. They were a fun trio and the supporting cast was enjoyable as well. Good stuff.

Koharu’s Koharuness was the absolute best! I always loved getting to hear her say another super awkward line with full confidence XD Hiyori’s socially awkward self was plenty adorable, and you can see why both Koharu and Koi are smitten with her ❤ I still definitely like Koharu the most, but credit must be given where credit is due. Koi was also a really great part of the cast! Then you had Aiko and Futaba! And more and more! I don’t think there’s a cast member that wasn’t pretty great, outside maybe Koi’s brothers who had a few good moments, but were just really low on screentime. I mean, there’s only so much screentime, so it was a given.

The family stuff always warmed me up or teared me up, or both ~ I love stuff like that ❤

I don’t really have much else to say that wouldn’t be parroting what you already said, so I’ll stop with: Koharu is ❤
