We already had a pretty good fishing girls show in Houkago Teibou Nisshi so another one was quite welcome, especially since fishing mini-games are big among chill gamers. I do not know why myself but they are popular. Anyway let us find out if this second fishing girls show is another good one as we take a look at Slow Loop.
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Iyshikei
Themes: Cooking, Family, Fishing, Sisters, Yuri.
Number of Episodes: 12
Plot Summary: Hiyori is a girl who enjoys fly fishing by the beach, an activity passed down to her by her late father. On one typical day at the beach, she happens to meet Koharu, who is her stepsister from her mother’s new marriage.
Best way to describe Slow Loop is a three part show. One part is the classic “Cute Girls Doing Cute Things” at home, school or camp in this case.
The second part is of course fishing. Viewers get to learn alongside Koharu, who is inexperienced, more about fishing and viewers of the above mentioned anime can refresh their memories along with learn new stuff as Hiyori practices fly fishing over the more well known method. Both styles have their differences. Not to worry as classic fishing is covered too along with kinds of bait and some tidbits about the fishes themselves.
The third is about two families who experienced great tragedies coming together in hopes of slowly filling the emptiness in their hearts. It is presented in a lighthearted yet still effective way here with some legitimately strong moments. Despite the trope presented being tiresome it served its purpose quite well.
The presentation is cute and wonderful with the girls’ moe goodness and the beautiful seaside and mountain/riverbank setting. Yuru Camp crossover please. The fishing action ranges from chill to sometimes cool. The soundtrack is equally cute with a cute OP and ED. Alas no beach episode despite an early swimsuit tease. Some minor sexiness here and there at least.
The timid/socially awkward Hiyori has two options for potential suitors. Her lovable genki stepsister Koharu and her shrewd businesswoman with a timid underbelly bestie Koi. She has equally powerful moments with both. Not Citrus levels of intensity but still nice. There are other ships and one blossoming romance that may remind viewers of a certain dragon lover.
Overall Slow Loop is another very enjoyable fishing girls series that has more light yet effective drama sprinkled in. The cast are great, presentation wonderful and yuri lovely. Recommended to Girls’ Club aficionados and people looking for more cute fishing girls.
