Pride of Orange Episode 9: Cutie Awakened

We left on a worrisome cliffhanger last episode. Hopefully one of our heroines could bounce back from the accident.

Naomi feeling down

The Dream Monkeys couldn’t focus during most of the first period, especially Naomi. Kaoruko could hold down the goalpost for so long until their opponents scored. It was hard not to notice Naomi’s head wasn’t in the game so she called her to the bench. Knowing that sulking would get her nowhere she asked to go wash her face.

Riko cryingIn the DM locker she’s surprised to see Riko crying. She had a swollen ankle and no definitive return date. This made Naomi refocus, determined to show Riko her time spent training her wasn’t a waste.

Kid Riko and NaomiRiko was like Naomi’s “prince” since childhood. She didn’t say that but around here we can easily see it’s what she meant. She’s always there for her, helping and protecting her.

Riko and Naomi lonely without each otherWhen they’re older Naomi joined Riko in ice hockey. She couldn’t skate as well as Riko and wanted to give up but after seeing Riko struggle too and refuse to give up she tried a little longer. That was until she saw a beautiful figure skater. She quit hockey to become a skater. As we know there’s an off-screen accident that played a part in her quitting but the real reason was, like Riko who got bored of hockey after Naomi left, she felt lonely without her.

Riko and Naomi want to play together moreThe two realized they wanted to play together more. Ice hockey was THE sport but the main goal was to be on the same team together 4 EVAH!

Manaka scores the winning goalThe Dream Monkeys’ comeback was awesome. No need to go over every detail or kickass play. Better seen than described. They won the game 3-2.

Riko and Naomi treated each other ice creamThey went back to their usual “cool tomboy and tsundere princess” but knew they wanted to be together. Riko would have to sit out one more game before she could play again so it’s up to Naomi to help win another one so they could fulfill their promise. Best pair did it again! Bless them.

Maya wonders what's upMeanwhile Snow White’s first round was a cakewalk thanks to Maya. The problem was some of the girls got cocky and thought with the Canadian Bombshell doing the heavy lifting they’d be a shoe-in to reach Rank A again. The worried redhead called them out on repeating the same mistake that demoted them but they pushed back saying she’s jealous of Maya taking her spot. Maya meanwhile had no idea what’s going on.

We ended the episode with Manaka getting a text from Mami saying she’d return to play there soon. Should be very interesting to see how far she’s come and which team she’s on. Good stuff as always.

Nice to see how hockey brought Nao and Riko back together again. That’s the power of this sport!

Staying focused and playing smart is what got them their first win. Team effort and it all paid off. Looking forward to their next game!

Maya is just out there doing the work. I still like her.

Might be a little far fetched, but could Mami possibly be playing for the Snow White? We haven’t actually seen what team she’s on nor has it been mentioned either. Kind of a long shot I know, just thought I’d throw that out there though.

Into the final stretch now, this will be an exciting finish!

Naomi was out of sorts after that collision as expected, but after some introspection and encouragement from Riko, she managed to show how gutsy she really is. Those two are a great pair, indeed.

Yoko snapping at Nao was expected but actually seeing her lose her cool was quite something.

Gee, I overestimated Kushiro Snow White. It looks like they didn’t learn anything from their demotion to the B league. Well, pain’s gonna be their teacher, I guess.
