The end of the Wakaba Arc.
The time had come for the two remaining heroines to make their last stand. Before their final charge Yuna hoped someone would remember her so her soul would live on, thus she gave a basic yet powerful self-introduction.
The battle was difficult and intense as expected. It was 2 vs 6 after all. They hit hard and got hit back just as hard.
Yuna went for another attack but her Super Mode ran out. In a pool of her own blood she’s about to suffer a similar fate as Chikage but refused to give up, pushing herself beyond her limit, showing fans of YuYuYu and Symphogay where her descendant and Captain Bikki got their badassery from. Alas despite her best effort to keep going she too fell after her ultimate attack.
Alone and in great despair Wakaba saw the Vertex retreat as she honored her fallen comrades by letting the alien bastards know loud and clear who kicked their ass as they seemingly retreated.
That’s the end of the Hero Records. The “epilogue” said Wakaba retired after that battle as the 300 year miko sacrifice ritual began. As our heroines reflected Sonoko hoped the end of the first half of Season 2 meant the battles were over. We knew they weren’t just yet. She checked the box again and found a hoe…a secret hoe. Nah. Just a hoe. Probably.
Later we continued with present day Yuna’s personal suffering. Again fans knew where that would go. Let’s save that for another time.
THE TWO YUNAS!
Like Togo Yuna also had an interesting conversation in what I assume was dream limbo…with Yuna Takashima! She of course knew about the curse as she revealed her soul was taken in by Lord Shinju, probably similar to Gin. She talked about the end of S1 when everyone calling out to her saved Yuna Y from the afterlife while Yuna T was too banged up to keep going as we saw. Yuna T then got to the main reason for her visit, to take the curse from Yuna Y and shoulder the burden herself. She’s like “Hey, the gods think we’re the same person so why not trick those fickle bastards. You’ve suffered enough Yuna.” Obviously Yuna Y refused because she’s a true hero, just like Yuna T. Thus the events of S2 continued up to the wedding announcement…
It was a badass tragedy. That’s Wakaba Nogi wa Yuusha de aru in a nutshell. Great stuff despite some moments and interactions getting cut. What we got was excellent though. Surely will motivate new fans who want to fill the remaining gaps to check out the light novel sometime.
Next time, the Sentinels come out of retirement!
