Got some Tohru development this episode.
First up a treat for people of culture. These beauties made me want another season of Dumbbell.
Miss Kobayashi’s back was pretty stiff. Tohru offered her usual meal to perk her up but also as usual Miss Kobayashi turned it down. Tohru tried a more serious approach the 2nd time, only to again offer her vintage meal.
Tohru asked Bob and Elma since they’re her coworkers. They said it’s most likely because the office chair she used was very uncomfortable and she didn’t like to spend a lot…despite earlier in the episode shown buying several massage items (though they’re probably all cheap). Tohru offered to again travel to the other world to acquire medicine but Bob said not to feed her medicine from unknown lands. I’m sure readers remember what happened last time she had her take a foreign medicine.
In the end Tohru realized, metaphorically speaking, sometimes a loved one doesn’t need a planet as a small island is more than enough. Basically you don’t need to go all out to make your beloved happy when all they want is something simple like a massage tail. Part 1 ended with a “heavy” joke.
Part 2 began with Tohru writing a handy spell to teach Kanna and Ilulu. When Miss Kobayashi took a look she noticed something familiar. It looked similar to some code at work. Curious she asked Mr Boss about it. It was incantation developed by human mages such as he. He invited her to come to the office to learn more.
She’s shocked to see Big Daddy Dragon there too. He and Mr Boss were friends and he kept in touch with him to ask how Tohru was doing. Knowing Miss Kobayashi came to the office in search of information Big Daddy began with the tale of the dragons. Put simply the dragons wanted to live without being monitored by the gods above. Dragons once united to oppose them ala the Titans vs Gods of Olympus. However, some changed their minds and were content with serving the gods while others had no interest in continuing to fight. Thus the dragons split into the Harmony, Spectator and Chaos factions. Big Daddy led the Chaos faction in a seemingly endless war when eventually Tohru was born. The next reveal was Tohru’s name originating from the world of huu-maans.
During that time he paid little attention to the huu-maans until they joined forces with the Harmony faction. Thus the Chaos faction branded them as enemies too. For a while he taught Tohru to hate them until realizing it was wrong to go that route, instead allowing her to go on a journey to see the world for herself and come to her own conclusion. We’ll continue the story from Tohru’s side in a bit. The conversation ended with Big Daddy still opposing Tohru and Miss Kobayashi’s relationship but respecting her enough to allow her to be by Tohru’s side until her last breath.
Miss Kobayashi said she wanted to hear both sides of the story so she politely asked Tohru if she wanted to share. So Tohru went on a journey to make her own conclusion about the world. She’s seen meeting the other dragons (except Ilulu since we already got her story) and witnessing the good and (mostly) bad of the huu-maans.
Tohru thought long and hard until she found her conclusion. She wanted the dragons to end the fighting and herself to live freely. In order to do this she confronted Zeus (It could be any Western god but for the sake of simplicity I’m sticking with the Greek pantheon reference) by herself but was struck down by a powerful giant sword, the one a drunk Miss Kobayashi pulled out.
I could make God of War references but no need.
Before meeting Miss Kobayashi Tohru was scared of freedom because it meant being all alone. Fortunately after meeting her the once aimless dragon princess found a purpose in life, to be her maid.
Pretty good stuff. Next time the gang go to a fireworks festival.
