Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S Episode 8: Recipes and Searches

As the title implied this episode was about making recipes and searching for important things.

Co-Op Game

Part 1 was a Shouta the shota segment so I won’t go into great detail. Father’s Day was coming up and he wanted to make a cool talisman as a gift to show his progress in alchemy. He didn’t want Lucoa’s help. It was harder than he thought so he asked his manly role model Bobby for help. He compared his recipe book to the online co-op game they’re playing. Not sure what it’s a reference to. Point was to think carefully about the author/creator’s intent in their writing/creation. Eventually he figured it out and I assume dad gave him a passing grade.

Lucoa Rewards ShoutaThere’s a “tiddy day” running gag with Lucoa. Dunno if she misunderstood “Father’s Day” as “Tiddy Day” but whatever.

Tohru nursing a sick KobayashiSpeaking of Lucoa she played a small but effective role in Part B. Miss Kobayashi got sick. Tohru, being a dragon, was immune to viruses that affected human. However, she didn’t know how to care for a sick person. Naturally she grew worried for her beloved. It surprised her that she had to ask three of her dragon buddies before she got helpful advice. That admittedly got a chuckle. After a “decent” attempt at porridge or whatever it was she made for her Tohru helped wash her back. She had mixed feelings of lust and worry for Miss Kobayashi.

Tohru returned with medicine for KobayashiShe thought about the many human villages that fell to ruin from a plague or pandemic and grew so worried she rushed off to her world in search of an effective medicine. As we can see the search was rigorous but she found something that might help. Miss Kobayashi, who felt better after some rest, didn’t want to Tohru’s hard work to go to waste so she took the medicine. She didn’t know if the medicine worked or not but Tohru’s smile was as good as any cure.

Kobayashi after taking the medicineThe medicine did work. Just differently than expected. It was definitely worth the trip for Tohru.

Ilulu recalls a past mistakeIlulu's strugglePart 3 was about Ilulu. One day at work there was a doll in a basket. She wanted to find its owner but Boy said the one who left it would come back the next day. They didn’t so they searched for them but no luck. She asked the kids and later Miss Kobayashi for help. The latter suggested using her powerful nose to track the owner’s scent. We learned the reason why she’s determined to find the doll’s owner. She had a hunch the owner missed it. It also reminded her of a past mistake. One of her old friends gifted her with a special doll but due to her family’s bad influence she eventually abandoned it, a decision that she deeply regretted. She didn’t want another person to suffer like her. Boy was there to support her.

The doll returned to its ownerThanks to Miss Kobayashi doing some extra digging she found the owner’s home address. As Ilulu thought the owner was also forced to get rid of the doll but she too regretted it. Ilulu was like “Don’t be ashamed of loving your doll. Just welcome her back home”.

It’s kind of a bummer the story seems to want to ship Ilulu with Boy but like Lucoa and Shouta the shota it doesn’t matter to me because I love Ilulu as a character a lot. Basically I care even less about Boy than Shouta. At least Shouta’s an alchemist. That’s cool.

Good stuff as always.

This was another good episode! Seeing Shouta make a talisman for his dad was just so wholesome! Also Ilulu’s part was also super wholesome as well, definitely hit me in the feels a bit. Ofc the prize gem of the episode was Tohru going all the way back to her world to find medicine for Kobayashi, she really does care and love her and ofc Kobayashi sees that and accepted the medicine which did lead to a funny and cute moment! (WE NEED MORE CAT KOBAYASHI!!!) Every episode of season 2 is just so good and I can’t wait for more!!!

    Another Fantastic episode!

Kanna playing with Kittybayashi is beyond precious!

It doesn’t effect Kanna x Riko, so I don’t really care who Ilulu ends up with.

As a 31 year old man who still owns the Transformer toys he had as a kid, I can relate to that high schooler.

Looks like it is an Elma episode next time, so the hype is real! 😄

There has been way too much Shouta focus this season. Hopefully that’s the end of it, but I am in doubt.

The Kobayashi stuff was nice, and the Ilulu story was touching enough, but this season is really lacking compared to season 1 so far.

  4. Father (父) in Japanese is pronounced chichi, but so is boobs (乳) (also I don’t Spanish myself, but I heard it also means boobs too?).

    Another great ep this week.

Shouta part was the usual Shouta stuff. I always enjoy seeing Lucoa and her Lucoas. Also I can’t remember how Shouta is able to have Lucoa in his house with his parents around. Honestly I forgot he even had parents to begin with, as we all know what happens to most anime parents.

Part 2 was good. Classic Tohru and Kobayashi goodness. I always like seeing how passionate Tohru gets when it comes to Kobayashi’s well being. She really went the extra mile to get some medicine to help her recover from her cold. Cat Kobayashi was a very welcome surprise too.

Part 3 was good as well. Always nice to see more Ilulu and what she’s up to. Kinda feels like she’s almost becoming a background character though after all the trailers featuring her and such. She made a big entrance but then is just chilling not doing much. Same could be said for a number of characters this season actually. I mean it’s still a great show overall and I really love it, it just feels they’re trying to focus on too much and not give everyone ample screen time. Just my two cents.

Looking forward to the next ep with Elma! She’s always fun to check in on.

Lucoa’s the only reason I watch Shouta the shota stuff.

That’s what happens when you give everyone ample screen time. It’s what I told someone who was sad Miss Kobayashi isn’t the “main character” anymore. Case and point, Elma is scheduled to shine next episode.
