We got the backstory to Tohru and Elma’s beef and Ilulu finally looked for a job.
Long hair Elma this episode. Excellent.
Part 1 saw Miss Kobayashi and Tohru ran into Elma at the shopping district. Miss Kobayashi casually asked if the two dragons always hated each other. They said they didn’t. Thus we got the backstory of their first meeting in their world. Tohru observed human adults doing human adult things, meaning acting like complete idiots when she heard a crowd mention the arrival of a “deity”. When she got a better look at the deity she instantly detected her dragon essence.
To sum their first meeting Tohru wondered why an Order Dragon granted miracles and provided for humans instead of eating human sacrifices as Elma mentioned last episode. Elma’s response? “Because their food tastes better than they do so I help make their lives better and they cook for me.” Tohru meanwhile was there to observe and judge whether to leave Elma be or do something about her. Elma suggested the two go on a journey to judge whether humanity was worth keeping around or wiping out.
Much time passed and things seemingly went well until the two had a big argument. A palace was erected to worship Elma as a goddess but Tohru demolished it, saying its true purpose was similar to how humans use religion to abuse their power, especially against non-believers. Elma was like “I know this wasn’t what I had in mind BUT THEIR FOOD IS SOOOOOO GOOD!” The two had a kaiju battle until they had enough and went their separate ways until meeting again in “our” world.
Miss Kobayashi concluded the two knew each other so well they even fought together, meaning they’re actually great friends. The short skits this episode show moments in the past of the two being close proving she’s right.
In Part 2 we joined Ilulu lazing about at home until Miss Kobayashi scolded her for being a freeloader and to get a job already. One of Ilulu’s suggestions was to work at the same office building as Miss Kobayashi and Tohru seen here was like “DAMN YOU FOR WANTING TO WORK THERE AND DAMN ELMA FOR WORKING THERE!”. Tohru accompanied her to look for work. Some examples included a butcher and a flower shop but despite greatly calming down since her debut Ilulu still had the Chaos Dragon instinctual desire to devour and destroy. This upset her.
Tohru thought it’d be hard for Ilulu to find a job when she saw some girls to play with. They led them to the Oboro Shop where they met up with Kanna and Riko. They went inside to meet the owner Miss Aida. Ilulu noticed a lot of kids came to the shop and that was because it’s a candy store. Upon hearing this Ilulu asked to work there. Miss Aida noticed how much she wanted it and gave her the job. Besides, her grandson didn’t seem interested in taking over for her.
I await the flood of Candy Store Ilulu fanart.
Her grandson doesn’t seem like a bad boy but I have no interest in talking about him so let’s skip to the main reason she wanted to work at the candy store. In short she loved children and wanted to interact and play with them. Grandson offered to show her the ropes of working at the store along with some games to play with the kids. Thus her delightful character development continued.
Great stuff as always. Next time it looks like we will get glimpses of the various human-dragon pairs such as Kanna X Riko, Bobby X Fafnir and Lucoa X Shouta the shota. Hopefully they tone down the shotacon jokes with the third pair this season.
Matching hairpins. Wonderful.
