I legitimately had not heard about this movie (That or I completely forgot about it. Probably a little of both) until a new Twitter follower checked out the blog and was like “Dood. I’m sad you haven’t reviewed this movie I like yet. Please check it out. It’s totally worth it”. and I was like “Sure. Why not”. Let us find out if it was worth giving a gander at as we take a quick look at Our Seven Days War/Seven-Day War, aka Bokura no Nanokan Sensou.
Genres: Action, Comedy, Drama
Themes: Coming of Age, Yuri
Length: 87 Minutes
The best way to describe this movie would be Home Alone with a little bit of Code Name: Kids Next Door but instead of kids defending their turf from burglars using tricks and traps for one night it is a group of teenagers in and old mining facility keeping out the immigration agency and a private group led by a selfish politician. The title refers to this battle lasting about a week. Besides Home Alone style shenanigans in a mining facility and a “Youth vs Adults” setup this is also a coming of age story where teenagers try to get along for one week while hiding secrets too embarrassing or deep to truly allow them to befriend one another. As readers can probably tell the drama comes in the youngsters struggling with their emotions, personal reasons for coming there and how they feel about each other. That is the gist of the story. It is a fun movie with solid dramatic moments as teenagers be teenagers and adults range from semi-resaonable to “cartoonishly” stubborn. However, this being 2021 “cartoonish” antagonists become less unrealistic each passing year based on real life figures of wealth and power.
As for the main reason for this Quickie, I cannot show which girls might become much more as that is part of the appeal. To have viewers think it is a possibility between some of the girls in the movie but doubt if it could happen. The movie drops several hints on which ones it could be but whether they do go for gold or not is something I leave to viewers to see for themselves. All I will say is keep watching till the end. No matter what you see, keep going.
So in short Our Seven Days War is a fun film about teenage Home Alone shenanigans with a coming of age story added to the mix and potential yuri viewers will have to find out how far they take it. I would give the movie an 8/10 fun factor.
