Uma Musume – Pretty Derby 2.12: Fate’s Change of Plans

Title says it all.

Palmer and Helios remember Fukukitaru

First let’s check out some of the side-horses’ arcs. We joined Palmer and Helios on their way to the fortuneteller Fukukitaru’s hut but were surprised with a touching message from the fortuneteller for Palmer, saying she no longer needed guidance. She’d found her way and the rest was up to her. While it had an amusing end it was a touching conclusion to Palmer’s Arc. She had a guiding hand, found a great partner in Helios and has had moderate success ever since.  Good stuff.

Biwa Hayahide senses a disturbanceIt looks like Biwa Hayahide from Team BNW may be the big horse Teio must try to overcome like Special and the majestic French horse last season.

Teio and McQueen at the beachNow for the main course. Teio and McQueen supported each other, determined to fulfill their promise of having an epic rematch. McQueen even slowed down to keep up with Teio’s pace.

Teio in bed for precautionAs if there wasn’t enough drama in the lives of these two horses. While training McQueen felt a pain in her left leg. Long story short she had a career threatening injury. It was worse than Teio’s. While Teio’s would prevent her from reaching her full potential McQueen’s could force her to lose her left leg entirely if she didn’t take care of it. McQueen, determined to keep her promise with Teio refused to heed Doctor’s advice. Even her grandmother urged her to call it a day but again she refused.

Teio comforts McQueenTeio, upon hearing McQueen left her sick bed to train despite doctor’s orders rushed over to find a broken down McQueen. She comforted her as best as she could and promised to make a miracle happen in her upcoming race to help give McQueen the strength to create a miracle of her own, just like McQueen motivated her.

I mentioned last time that I still didn’t see McTeio as a thing and that unless we got something huge next episode I wouldn’t change my mind. Welp, I admit it, after this Gold McQueen is pretty much done. While sad I will also admit the build for McTeio was well done. At least it wasn’t crappy fanboy pandering like YohaRiko in Sunshine S2. Yes, while I love Sunshine that still irks me. Anyway I’m okay with McTeio. Should be an interesting finale next time.

All aboard the Teio McQueen ship, and it is full of SUFFERING
This show doesn’t want to let up, they give us one happy ep then drop this bombshell afterwards.

That’s so cruel… but so far, every time I thought Uma Musume was too cruel (and that has been a lot of times), it turned out well. I guess the only definite constants in horse girl universe are injuries and yuri ^^

I’m starting to become a steadfast Teio x McQueen shipper. Destiny certainly seems intent on tying them together. I don’t mind, they’re incredibly beautiful together and McQueen always has her sweetest, happiest smile when she’s watching Teio. Besides, they use “anata” and “kimi” for each other…

Kita and Dia would be so excited if their idols married ^^

I must have watched too much of the principal in Hidamari Sketch, because when McQueen’s butler broke into a run, I was CERTAIN that he’d suddenly reach the speed of sound and overtake all the horse girls.

They definitely upped the drama this season with multiple injuries but you’re right about what’s been consistent throughout both seasons.

Like fangirls, like heroines it would seem.

This is technically a sports anime so they wouldn’t have a bystander outperform one of the athletes even as a joke.

Did you notice that the ED was reversed this time? It’s not the usual where Teio sings first and McQueen offers support, they reversed their roles in this one.

It seems that Cygames really likes to pull on the heart strings, but it’s quite interesting how McQueen’s situation is playing out really similarly to what Teio experienced. Thankfully, it lead to that nice moment. I guess that date was the strawberry sundae. But I think things will work out in the end. After all, Suzuka survived and still continue to race.

Still, it’s not too surprising to see Teio and McQueen pairing receive a push. I guess Satono Diamond and Kitasan Black are already an indication of this already.

Yeah. Teio will repay McQueen for her encouragement and together they’ll happily race each other past wedding bells and their last breath.

Like fangirls, like heroines I suppose.

an anime about racing “horse girls” who are also sometimes idols has no right to be this emotionally touching!

    • OG-Man says:

Because it’s more about the sport than the idol stuff, that’s why. Then again we’ve seen idol anime that pushed girls to their limits so when you think about it, it’s not that surprising.

It’s just one hit after another this season but not in a bad way. Obviously I want the happy ending but this has been way more emotionally gripping then I was expecting from this show. As a huge McQueen fan this is probably the hardest hitting episode yet. Loving the relationship growth if only cygames would give us some canon yuri but like everything else they make it’s just tons of in your face subtext.
