Otherside Picnic Episode 6: DoomChooChooMoo

When we last left our heroines they were unexpectedly warped to Otherside and in big trouble but were saved by a platoon of soldiers and taken to their base.

Much of the first half had Sorawo and Toriko listen to the soldiers’ current situation and fight for their survival and sanity. A lot of what they went through we have seen through our heroines in past episodes such as the effects of glitches/bear traps or encounters with monsters/wild things. Sorawo kept quiet for the most part while Toriko had an idea how to handle herself around soldiers. The one thing that came up several times were the train tracks. They were the key to the exit but the soldiers had a hard time in a previous attempt. Maybe it’s for the best we didn’t get a graphic depiction of what happened to the “soldier that came back”. After the briefing was done Lieutenant Drake gave our heroines two words of advice, to not provoke the other soldiers nor use telephones.

At least they heeded one of his warnings. They called Kozakura for hints like in video games of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. When they mentioned they were US soldiers she asked whether they were the “Dark Horse” or “Pale Horse” Battalion. It seemed they were the latter and she advised them to be careful around them for they couldn’t be trusted. However, as soon as they made the call and in the middle of it things got progressively creepier when suddenly “Kozakura” changed her tone from annoyed to disturbing, again hinting the key was the train and it was on its way.

Drake was like “Oh boy. What did I tell you?” as the soldiers prepared for what’s to come. It was the “ghost train”. Not THE train but it looked like one. Some of the soldiers were slowly driven mad as they fought it.

Our heroines used the distraction to sneak ahead and get a better look at the monster. Sorawo revealed its true form, a ghost cow. Like other monsters it used fear to “communicate”.

Toriko naturally had a sniper rifle handy, an M14 EBR to be exact. Sorawo tried guiding Toriko to fire at its weak point but because Toriko couldn’t see its true form she couldn’t hurt it. Sorawo had to give give it a go but was unsure. Thanks to Toriko’s touch she got the power to take it down.

As the soldiers celebrated the wild thing’s defeat one of them noticed Sorawo’s blue eye and freaked out. Our heroines made their way to the train tracks. Sorawo confirmed the “Meat Train” was the exit. Toriko wasn’t looking forward to grabbing Otherside Matter again but Sorawo’s surprise suaveness turned her on enough to go for it. Inside the train it was all Silent Hill like. Not a pretty sight. Fortunately our heroines braved the horror and were warped back to “our world”. Unfortunately like last time they had no idea where in Japan they ended up.

Meanwhile Kozakura got her own spook of the episode with a voice message from the Otherside. Good stuff as usual.

I wonder why did they draw her with a skirt? She is wearing pants which is more practical for someone like her, if not we get ridiculous and uncomfortable shots of Toriko..I do not know how likely this will get renewed for season 2. The manga is pretty interesting.

Lots of fun! that scene on the train was pretty terrifying, I like how they kept it vague, but not completely without details. Let imagination fill in the blanks nicely, much like the experience reading the novel

I look very so much forward to what next week should be!

Yes, this episode is terrifying with that phone call, but I am glad that Toriko and Sorawo found a way out. I have a feeling that maybe the military unit made it out of the fourth episode is already an indication as Kozakura made it out too somehow.

The next episode should be interesting, for obvious reasons.

The phone call scene was so scary, watching this show late at night is probably not a good idea but I’m still doing it for some reason.

The weird cow thing was also very scary. I’m just scared a lot of the time while watching this show. I think it’s pretty obvious I can’t handle scary stuff that well.

    And the Meat Train… yeah…

Always though, excited for more next week!

Not sure if it’s related but i watched a horror film Midnight Meat Train starring Bradley Cooper some years ago. Very silent hill-ish. If you like horror give it a try. Good watch.
