Looks like the first multi-parter of the show is here.
We joined our heroines dealing with the leftovers from Kozakura’s payback meal. After ordering a meal big enough for two people she wanted to try on the Lady Hasshaku hat. Sorawo’s disapproval convinced her to put it back. That’s when Sorawo properly explained her concerns over their journeys to Otherside.
The waiter spoke some ominous sounding words meaning it was our heroines’ cue to skedaddle. Sorawo noticed the city lights flickering strangely and the train station being further away than usual. As she and a drunk Toriko puzzled over it they unknowingly crossed a familiar effect.
I assume that’s a yata-garasu or some other creepy crow or raven. Unless it’s important beyond symbolic significance I won’t think about it too much. Point was they’re unknowingly warped to Otherside at night, which was a no-no because Toriko remembered Satsuki telling her nighttime in Otherside was more dangerous. They deduced the cause of their latest visit was Toriko messing with the hat.
That’s when they spotted a creepy robot with four corpses dangling. They fled as far as they could but the terrain got rougher. The two supporting each other kept them going. Suddenly Toriko noticed a platoon as they held the robot at bay. The soldiers spoke Engrish which was where Toriko’s half-Canadian heritage came in. The
Suddenly a giant horned man appeared. The platoon were on guard as both it and the robot went their separate ways. As I don’t delve much into urban legends or Creepypastas, nor have played S.T.A.L.K.E.R or read Roadside Picnic I have no idea what purpose the horned man served. Maybe we’ll find out next time.
Lieutenant Will Drake spoke Japanese so our heroines assessed the situation through him. He’s part of an American forced sent to Okinawa for training when they were warped to Otherside. The creepy robot was one of their machines corrupted by a glitched bear trap and the corpses were fellow soldiers. Our heroines were transported from Tokyo, hence the soldiers’ shocked reactions. Our heroines followed them to their base near a train station called Spring February or as Sorawo noticed, Kisaragi Station. Not to mention there was electricity but no power lines in sight.
This was a setup episode for what’s to come next time. Should be interesting.
