When we last left our heroines they had barely survived another battle against a Wiggle-Waggle. They would soon discover that battle affected them more than they thought.
A kabedon already? My goodness Miss Toriko.
Not only did Sorao’s eye turn blue from looking directly at the Wiggle-Waggle for a long time but Toriko’s hand became translucent after ripping the monster’s “hair” off of Sorao. They agreed to visit the “Otherside expert” Toriko knew for help.
Looks like Kozakura here wasn’t Satsuki as I previously thought. We would learn a bit more about her appearance later. Back to Kozakura. She reacted as one would expect seeing our heroines’…changes. She categorized contact with “them” as “close encounters of the fourth kind”. Satsuki taught Toriko and Kozakura everything they knew about Otherside. Toriko was close with Satsuki. More on this in a bit.
While Kozakura paid them for the Wiggle-Waggle cube she didn’t know enough about “them” to help our heroines with their conditions. Sorao wondered if she was trustworthy and Toriko assured her she’d help them out because Satsuki trusted her.
Sorao was like “You and that Satsuki woman must have been real close, huh?” Toriko was like “Most important person in my life. In fact, I’m glad I met you because now you can help me look for her!” Since then Sorao was mega jelly. So much so that despite being unable to walk away from Toriko she acted cold towards her. Toriko naturally didn’t appreciate it.
Before they got into an argument a strange man pointed a machine gun at them. At first he stopped them from triggering a trap but he got weird(er) when he mistook Sorao for his wife Michiko. Clearly a sign of someone who spent way too much in “Otherside”. The “stranded hobo” archetype. Think of movies like Jumanji and Cast Away as examples. Like the men in those movies this guy was barely sane as his wife was disappeared one evening. He looked all over and eventually theorized she’d been “spirited away”. He researched as much as he could until discovering an Otherside portal at a shrine. He figured “they” abducted her and searched for her ever since. Since both he and Toriko were looking for someone important he inserted himself into the group to search with them.
They spotted footprints in foggy woods leading to a mansion. As Sorao watched them head inside she thought she didn’t belong because she wasn’t looking for anyone important…as she solemnly looked at Toriko. However, she noticed the footprints weren’t human and was about to run away but thinking about her harsh attitude towards Toriko changed her mind.
Inside the mansion the three encountered what appeared to be Lady Hasshaku. Both the hobo and Toriko described Michiko and Satsuki as women with long black hair. The hobo didn’t stand a chance.
Sorao tried to snap Toriko from Lady Hasshaku’s trance but it was no use. She wanted her Satsuki. Sorao could takes it no more and called out to Toriko.
Where have I seen this relationship dynamic before? Yeah. I know. Some viewers noticed the similarities last time.
In a neat twist that made sense it was Sorao who was in a trance. The path to yuri had truly begun for our former loner.
With Toriko’s translucent hand being able to make contact with “them” and Sorao’s blue eye they defeated the monster.
It had begun. Good stuff.
