I think now is as good of a time as any to announce the anime I’ll be watching at the start of 2021. As always shows can be added or dropped depending on my mood or interest.
Anime picked from these lists:
Update: Added Wonder Egg Priority in the CURIOSITIES list
Update 2: Added Uma Musume 2 to MUST WATCH.
MUST WATCH
Otherside Picnic/Urasekai Picnic: From what I gathered the anime adaptation of The Journey of Elaina was gayer than the source material. I could be wrong as I haven’t read the Novel or Manga. My point is if the Elaina anime was gayer then you never know, the Otherside Picnic anime may ramp up the gay too. The show looks like a fantasy sci-fi action isekai (Transported/portal. No truck of doom or VRMMORPG this time) starring two young adult women who may fall in love over time. Haven’t read this one either and it’s for the best. As always I much prefer going into shows blind.
Uma Musume 2: I knew a 2nd season was announced but to my surprise it’s announced for Winter 2021! More gay horsies coming our way! This time the story is centered around Toukai Teio and Mejiro McQueen. I hope this doesn’t mean the end of Gold McQueen…Still super excited for this one.
Non Non Biyori 3 (Nonstop) and Yuru Camp 2: No need to delve deep into these two shows. Longtime fans of mine and frequent visitors have been anticipating the continuation of these shows for what feels like ages so the hype for both is through the roof, yes.
Show By Rock!! Stars!! (aka Show By Rock!! All-Stars, aka Show By Rock!! Season 4): As the alternate titles indicate this is the fourth season and an all-star anime featuring every band from the past three. To the surprise of no one I’m most looking forward to seeing the interactions between the main couples, CyaReto and HowaHime. Naturally I’m looking forward to the S1 and S2 performers coming back also, especially Master Darudayu. “Drools”.
Gekidol: Based on the plot summary this is an idol anime in a post-apocalyptic setting. I’m usually down for more idol shows. Like I’ve said on occasion, the majority of idol anime are Girls Club shows with singing and dancing as the most important themes.
Idoly Pride: This will either be similar to Wake-Up Girls! or something more hardcore based on the plot summary. Like I said, the MAJORITY of idol shows are as I described Gekidol. There are exceptions.
WIXOSS Diva (a) Live: I assume it’s pronounced Diva Alive. It would make sense since this IS a WIXOSS spinoff anime that combines LRIG combat with idol stuff. Will this be a moepocalypse like the first two series? Probably. I’m intrigued regardless. Hopefully there won’t be male Selectors this time. Right now there aren’t any male names among the cast so that’s a good sign.
World Witches Hasshin Shimasu! and Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin: Both appear to be chill shows. The former features both the Strike Witches and Brave Witches. Hopefully it’ll be better than the last Strike Witches comedy show and not focus most of its runtime on Charlotte and Hartmann. Meanwhile Bisoku Zenshin will follow Javelin, Laffey, Ayanami and Z23. Sadly no Unicorn. Hopefully she’ll drop by often.
Curiosities
Idolls!: Supposedly this is a CG idol anime that uses motion capture technology. Dunno what to expect at all. I’m intrigued but don’t know enough to determine my hype for it, hence it’s a curiosity.
Soukou Musume Senki: Looks like another 7/10 mecha-musume/warrior maiden anime based on a mobile game.
Wonder Egg Priority: No idea what to expect from this one. It appears to be about the girl in the yellow coat. a strange voice calls to her with the potential to change the future should she choose to break a strange egg. The brunette is a boyish girl and a chick magnet so maybe there’s SOME yuri potential. It could be the surprise hit of the year like “A Place Further than the Universe” was in 2018. It certainly has the animation quality to back up its potential for greatness. We shall see.
I suppose I could check out the two Cells at Work anime in private if I feel like it.
That should be it for now, unless they surprise us with Vlad Love coming this Winter too. There’s a planned early screening of the premiere episode later this month so we’ll see.
“From what I gathered the anime adaptation of The Journey of Elaina was gayer than the source material.”
Honestly…not really. Saya’s crush is the same, but there’s a chapter that didn’t get animated (and almost certainly won’t be at this point) with a very much canon lesbian romance. Side characters, though. The anime does skip around a ton, I’ve read the first two volumes of the novel and only the first 6 episodes I was familiar with, which is less than half of the content in those two volumes.
I haven’t read Otherside Picnic (yet; the omnibus is sitting on my desk), but it’s marketed as yuri while Elaina is not, so I have expectations accordingly.

Otherside Picnic is yuri. I won’t go into much more than that. It should be interesting how they handle it though, as a lot of it is in the character’s thoughts. Guessing they’ll do more with visual cues. So excited for this one though!
Must watch –
Otherside Picnic – See above
Rezero S2 part2 – FIrst part did not grab me as much as the first half of season 1 did, but it ended on a strong enough note, and I wasn’t bored with what I saw or anything.
Yuru Camp S2 – not much needs to be said. I look forward to more Nadeshiko ❤
NNB Nonstop – Should be lots of fun! Hopefully we get better KomaHota presence than we did s2
SBR Stars – Very excited to see how things go, and where the story will take our two favorite couples! (More Darudayu is always a plus too!!!)
Gekidol – Everything about it just calls to me
Wixoss Diva (A) Live – Giving this series another chance after the mess that was lostorage
Soukou Musume Senki – I’m always willing to give mobage adaptations a chance
Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin! – Sad it’s a short, but looking forward to it nonetheless!
World Witches: Hasshin Shimasu! – Please make up for that…..other show. Please!
Yami Shibai 8 – Another season, another hope for some really neat short horror stories.
Mild Curiosity:
Log Horizon – Was excited, but even during s2 I started to see signs of storytelling I don’t want to happen. Heard some….not so good things about where the story goes after where season 2 left off.
Idoly Pride – I’m pretty interested, but at the same time, even I start to get fatigue when it’s just about idols. Need more of a something, like Gekidol with its post-apoclyptic/theatre angle. I will still give it a watch, but I could see myself losing interest.
Idolls! – I’m not entirely certain about this. I love idol anime, but something about it isn’t grabbing me as much. Still I see a loli idol in the main cast, so there’s something that might be worth it.

More or less have the same shows on my list as well. For reviews I’ll be doing just Azur Lane as that’s a short one. About all I can handle these days… I’ll be making the official announcement on the Anime Corps Twitter about my pick for next season soon.
Overall it looks like another great season of anime and I’m looking forward to watching new shows in the New Year!

Oh, Otherside Picnic already has a print release? I guess I’ll have to read through the first omnibus shortly after Christmas…
Camp/NNB: Hoping we see Shimarin pass on the Legendary Sword techniques to Ren-chon this season.
Idols: I’m going to try all of them except WIXOSS (I haven’t set foot in that series yet. Eventually) and I★Chu: Halfway Through the Idol (despite the hilarious title, for reasons obvious after glancing at anything beyond the title).
Platelets at Work: Watching for adorable little platelets.
Ram’s Dis Track: Watching for Ram mocking people.
I’m a Spider, So What?: Girl led isekai, checking it out.
Attack on Titan: Final Season: Part 1: Flesh Suit Gundam continues.

For a STALKER fan like me, Urasekai Picnic is a dream come true with a very strong side of gay to it. Sorawo (glassed) will undoubtedly become one of the cutest creatures of anime 2021 though I still prefer Toriko’s more mature look in the manga.
Rejoice fellow Loners (Monolith, stay away!), we got ourselves a legendary artefact here.
Ah noo cheeki breeki i v damké!

The source material is much more gayer than the anime. Heck, the anime is more toned down.

I’ll add Ex-arm because Alma ans Minami and the way to unlock Alma capabilities.
I think it could be a good inspiration for little Viktoria
