Minor Blog Updates and Slowdown Explanation

Quick update on what I did on the blog when not talking about, covering or reviewing stuff and other things some fans wonder why I have not yet updated.

The Yuri Empire Logo Black

First of all The Yuri Anime List got a minor update. I added Western animated series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe and many others. Over the years Western cartoons stepped up their game with LGBT+ representation. Slowly but surely more mainstream animated series feature prominent lesbian characters and relationships along with other sexual orientations besides het. Because of that I figured the time was right to include them similar to the Yuri Manga List featuring Western comics also. Like the YML The YAL name won’t change because it’s easier to recognize. Plus I wrote a small update of the change over there already.

Added more games to The Yuri Video Games List. Updates, they come. They come slowly but surely. Plus there’s the Hella Yuri link at the bottom for games I didn’t get to include.

Iroha staring

Iroha’s supreme cuteness to help calm my soul.

Now for the rambling. I originally planned on posting this minor update after three lists were updated. I mentioned two but there’s one I did not. The Yuri Hall of Fame. Short answer, laziness. Long answer, I just feel tired. Besides the aforementioned laziness my mood also plays a role. Sometimes I just don’t feel like it. Like I bring up a topic to discuss in a Yuri Talk post, such as “How I work with soft yuri” and posted a “test tweet” of sorts discussing the subject and when I got the replies…it was exactly what one would expect from both sides. Some are cool with soft yuri not always going the extra mile and roll with that they got whereas others write long tweets against about the need for directness and, shall we say, “on-screen in your face-ness” with the yuri. When you notice replies like that you no lose the desire to discuss it when you know exactly what both sides will say.

Back to the HoF. Rest assured it will EVENTUALLY be updated. Just be patient with me. When you have been doing this for over 9 1/2 years you start having moments where you don’t feel like posting. The one thing I NEVER WANT to happen is for blogging to feel like a chore instead of spreading the love like I have for so long. I don’t want blogging to feel like “work” basically. I am doing this all for free and the love of yuri (and occasionally other stuff). I don’t get paid. The best rewards alongside ongoing fan support and friendships made thanks to yuri are developers trusting me with video game review codes and a few kind souls buying some games I really want when they don’t have to. I am eternally grateful to everyone who trusts me and although I am not the fastest blogger I do my best to cover and review as many games as possible.

Women's Championship

This brings me to the next stuff I have not done in a while, Yuri Awards and Tournaments. I mentioned this before about 2018 but as amazing of a year as it was for yuri I did not have to think twice to know if I hosted it that year it would have been dominated by Citrus and Bloom Into You. 2019? Laziness. fingers crossed at the end of 2020 or realistically January 2021 they will return. No guarantee but I will do my best.

Lastly, why I hardly talk about Yuri manga/comics or live-action media. Simple. I already dedicate a lot of my attention on tracking and covering animated series and video games with/centered around yuri. I have a hard time keeping up with Live-Action and manga/comics. That’s why I asked for help with the manga list and was grateful Gremriel steps up when possible. It’s too much for me to work on by myself.

This blog exists to spread yuri love and share it with the interested, replying to whoever I can…unless I don’t have much of a response. Offline I don’t have anyone to discuss yuri with anymore so I treasure my time here very much. To everyone who stuck around this long and hopefully stay for years to come I thank you. To newcomers who enjoy their time here I thank you too. Again please be patient with me. I will continue doing my best.

Uzamaid Salute

Fall 2020 is going to be insane so we’ll be in for a boom period after two seasons of slowdown that had their moments but were far from the chaotic bliss of the prior two years. Let’s get ready to rumble folks!

I haven’t forgotten about the manga/comics list, but real life and health issues keep interfering. One of these days, though!

Have a big chill OG, we all appreciate your “free work” very much and you don’t need to explain what do you do, and why. I wish all the best as always and thank you for hard work! 😉

Lol guilty as charged for being one of those great defenders of directness in yuri. I do like both, but it feels like this “side” of the fence gets waaaay too much negativity thrown at it, so I like to support the underdog and be as shameless as possible about it 😛

That said, a huge thanks for your amazing dedication to yuri of all shapes and sizes over the years! I hope to continue to enjoy many more of your lovely posts in the future.

I have to admit that this year has been really tough. Between the delays due to Covid19, it has been really tough to keep my motivation too blog, especially with the large decline in engagement, especially with comments, which led me to becoming frustrated and not enjoy blogging as I used to when other blogs have no problem with this. At few points, I really wanted to give up, but decided not to since my time, money and effort would go to waste. 2020 has been a very strange and terrible year, but I still think it’s a feat to continue to share what you enjoy the most for even 9-10 years as only a small handful last that long.

Hopefully things will turn around and maybe 2021 won’t be as bad.

has it been 9 1/2 years?! I swear time just disappears from me. I have definitely enjoyed yuri and reading your blog posts (and other readers’ comments) all these time. Let’s continue to have fun!

Legit didn’t know/realize you’d been blogging for nearly 10 years. That’s amazing and really admirable too. I’ve been at this for… maybe 6 years and I’m losing motivation with each passing year, but to see you stay at it for so long, I really, really respect that. I’ve seen far too many good blogs close up shop in my time, great to see you out here still going strong. The Fall season is about to get nuts, and while I’m only reviewing just the 1 show, I’m still looking forward to getting back into the blogging vibe. Who knows, maybe I’ll want to get back into writing again once I start up.

Understandable how you would slowly lose motivation based on the drab landscape of aniblogging over the years. Me? I’m still going because I still enjoy doing it and people enjoy my content, both the ones who want to have fun and even those who come out of hiding solely to gripe for whatever reason. Must be doing something right to have the latter coming back here instead of other yuri blogs.
