Lapis Re:LiGHTs Episode 9: Down but not Out

While the episode was somber as expected it definitely wasn’t all moping.

Poor Tiara

Poor Tiara.

When we last left our heroines they received a very disheartening letter. Although they did get a “yellow tower” ranking in the Orchestra, the district they were assigned only got 67% mana energy, meaning the stunt they pulled was for naught. At least the crowd loved the show. They were expelled the very next day. Harsh. PLUS the royal family sent some guards and a maid to pick her up, which shocked Tia. This was the first sign something wasn’t right. Rose stood up to the royal reps but Tia had them all stand down, voluntarily returning to the castle, as much as it pained her to leave.

Poor Lavie

Poor Lavie.

Things were so bad for our heroines Lavie said made an intelligent remark. Poor dear was already labeled the “dumb one” of the group.

Emilia's milk stache

Sapphic milk stache.

All their friends were worried, even Grumpy Yue.

Ratura okay

Ratura gives the “Okay”.

With Tia gone our heroines went to the cafe Ratura worked at to discuss what happened. Lavie, Ashley and Lynette didn’t know Tia was a princess nor Eliza’s imouto. Rose explained it was so she could be like everyone else and avoid special treatment. Naturally the gang accepted her as their beloved friend long ago. They had nowhere to go but fortunately Lynette’s sweetheart Ratura got the “Okay” from the boss to let them crash at the cafe so long as they worked there.

Another discussion

Another discussion.

Fun times were had courtesy of the new sexy waitresses the next day. After work the gang discussed what’s next. They couldn’t stay at the cafe forever. Rose planned on returning home in a few days. The others were sad but supported her decision.

Meanwhile Tia noticed the town of Leskarta under siege in the distance. Methinks LiGHTs will play a huge role in its salvation later on.

Ashley went through Hell

Ashley went through Hell.

The gang was ready for another day but something was wrong with Ashley. Throughout the episode she tried to hide a toothache until the pain was too noticeable. The girls asked Angelica to help heal her but there was only one way to remove the pain…There’s a reason why one of Glenn Jacobs’ first gimmicks was “Isaac Yankem” before becoming “Kane”. Angelica and Lucifer provoked our heroines to take action. Rose was more determined to help Tia. She skipped the planned farewell party.

Coco, Melissa and Lily visit the cafe

Coco, Melissa and Lily visit LiGHTs at the cafe.

The remaining three got a visit from the twins and Melissa who encouraged them to take action too. Not exactly join Rose in her plan to rescue Tia but that’s what they agreed on.

Good stuff as usual. Next time LiGHTs storm the royal family castle “A Link to the Past” style!

    Another Fantastic Episode!

“The shock was so great Lavie said something smart for Once.” That part was hilarious!

Poor best girl Ashley. But that scene was also hilarious.

Its nice to see Ratura have her girl’s back.

Also nice to see Melissa and the Twins again.

Can’t wait for the Rescue Hi-jinks of next weeks episode!

Yes, my speculation are plausible. It’s not just a coincidence that Chloe set Tiara up to fail. Eliza really wants her home, even against her will. The next episode should be interesting in that respect.

Still, it’s funny to see Ashley and Lavie fighting again and Lavie making fun of Ashley’s wisdom tooth issues.

Seems kinda cheap that they were expelled even if their show was a success and they lit the tower. Is it really that big a deal they strayed into other districts while performing? I don’t know, seems a little too harsh. But like the title of this review says, they’re down but not out.

As somber as this ep was, it still had funny moments and overall it ended on a positive note as the girls set out to rescue Tia and reunite. With only a few eps left though, there isn’t a whole lot of time to stage a comeback and return to the Academy, but I’m sure they’ll figure that out along the way.

Also kinda wondering if that town being attacked by the Magic Monsters will play into the final few eps. They’ve mentioned these monsters in previous eps, and then Ray had that big battle against them, if I’m remembering that correctly, so maybe Tia and company will end up doing something like that, saving a town and get accepted back to the Academy. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

As always though, another great ep this week. Looking forward to more but also a bit sad that we’re almost at the end. This season, hell this whole year, has been so different for anime with the postponing of shows and such. I still hope all the Fall shows are on track. My list is absolutely stacked and I’m extremely excited for what’s in store. Okay I’m so far off topic now. Sorry, time to end this comment.

I knew their ultimate failure would happen. LiGHTs got expelled, and they will never come back to the academy. Their first orchestra was officially their last. And even if the other four girls find Tia, well, watch. She’s going to say that there’s no point in returning to the town or the academy.

I bet this anime will end with a bad ending, in 3 episodes.

I trust that the cuties will solve this problem in the gayest way possible ^^

Yue being so sad, maybe even crying, was one of the most touching moments of this episode. Aww you softie Yue.

Another one of my favourites was Lily saying that “treasures are precious” and taking Coco into a hug. So adorable. I’m definitely shipping them.

Next episode looks like lots of fun.

  7. That tooth extraction lmao

Things may look down now, but its nice that their friends all care, and it looks like our heroes have a game plan now!

Cute waitress costumes, I’d be willing to forgive Lavie’s bad orders just for that.
