420th G-View: Tamayomi

Ever since watching Taishou Yakyuu Musume I have been looking for another all-female baseball anime that can make my heart race. Princess Nine got a sweet hit but was not quite the homer I was looking for (Still a really good baseball anime). Cinderella Nine had potential but it only managed first base. Next at bat was the show we will be talking about in this G-View. Is this the one that got the homer or did it strike out? Let us find out as we take a look at Tamayomi.

Tamayomi Poster

Genre: Sports

Theme: Baseball, Legs, Thighs, Yuri

Number of Episodes: 12

G-Rating: 8/10

Plot Summary: Yomi Takeda was the pitcher of her school’s team in Junior High, but due to miscommunications they did not get far in a professional league. Yomi quit baseball and enrolled at Shin Koshigaya High School. To her surprise she reunited with her childhood friend Tamaki “Tama” Yamazaki. Together they reignite their passion for baseball and begin their campaign to form a new team to go pro.

Ibuki ready for Yomi's Magic Ball

Tama and the twins Ibuki and Yoshino.

Before we get to the show itself there is one obstacle viewers MUST cope with before deciding to check this show out. The animation is not great. What I mean is a lot of movement on the field is in CG from running toward a ball, catching fly balls, sliding etc. Think of the CGI in shows like Kemono Friends Season 1 and The Magnificent Kotobuki. It reminded me of the CGI there, meaning viewers who were okay with the CG there should not have much difficulty watching them. Naturally the internet has a stigma against Japanese CGI so viewers who already cannot stand it will find little to change their minds here, especially after the (for some reason) prematurely rushed first airing of a certain episode. It was replaced later but the rushed tape left a very bitter taste for many.

Yomi Exercising

Yomi exercising.

Personally the girls all look great and the most important part, the thighs and booties are all nice to look at. Plus I can only imagine how much better and more detailed the muscles will be in Blu-Ray. They already looked glorious during the TV broadcast. Not quite the level of other shows but good enough to worship. Point being, the animation gets my (Will surely look better in the Blu-Ray) pass. The soundtrack gets the job done. Nothing noteworthy but the OP and ED are wonderful, especially the ED with its old school anime vibe.

Now for the show. To be honest there is not much to go over in great detail because the show is pretty straightforward. While this sounds like a negative it is far from it. It means the show stays on course without straying far from the message it wants to send. It is a show about gay baseball thighs, aka a definitely gay baseball team training hard and playing hard while facing personal struggles on and off the field. That simple. The girls deal with struggles such as a poor past experience, lacking confidence, difficulty communicating with others, underestimation etc. Basic sports anime character arcs. Again, this is its greatest strength. It maintains an enjoyable balance. All 11 Shin Koshigaya team members are easy to like with their fun quirks and sexy figures (Not counting ones who prefer their ladies petite because there ain’t any smol guns here chief). Each player, coach and supervisor get their time to shine and struggles to try and overcome by their own will and with the power of teamwork and love.

Nozomi booty

Nozomi has one of the best figures on the show. Oh, and she is a pretty good player too.

The other thing the show gets right, like any other sports show, is it makes the sport exciting to watch for fans of it and ones who are not. I grew up in a baseball loving family so I had an easy time getting into the show and enjoying it quite a bit but others, like with Rifle is Beautiful, had some difficulty getting into it initially bust most of my peeps interested in the show warmed up to it. Speaking of RiB the ultimate secret to Tamayomi’s enjoyment is the lovable cast and how passionate they are about their sport. So much so invested viewers want to see root for them despite them being fictional characters. A well done sports anime/show/movie/ etc is one where even viewers not into the sport can enjoy watching the story. That and each game/match should be more exciting than the last, which this show succeeds in doing.

Tama and Yomi's promise

The main and most prominent couple.

Like most Japanese all-female sports anime/manga/game Tamayomi has yuri goodness to relish. There are several couples besides Tama X Yomi though not all of them get a lot of time in the spotlight. Some are shown being all cuddly a couple of times but besides Tama and Yomi there is one other surprise couple that gets some very surprising buildup culminating in a blaze of glory. I noticed these two show signs but needed more time before deciding whether to embrace them or not take them seriously. Well…the waiting definitely paid off.

Overall Tamayomi was definitely the home run show I was looking for, especially because unlike TYM it focused entirely on girls playing baseball (As much as I love TYM the secondary plot, while logical for the time period, irked me)…so long as viewers can cope with the mostly passable animation and CGI. The cast are wonderful, both the main team and their opponents, the games get more exciting, the plot is straightforward in a very good way and the yuri is delightful. Again viewers who are okay with the animation and want to see sexy gay baseball thigh action will most likely enjoy this show.

Would love a continuation but based on the mainstream reception it is unlikely, which sucks but have seen happen all too many times. It is what it is.

I love this show soooo much since first ep. Was looking forward to girls baseball anime. And it doesn’t disappoint <💕

Plus the show practically shipping TamaxYomi by just putting it as the title ahhahaha (only realising it at the last ep tho)

Hoping more girls baseball anime release after this 😍
Really enjoyed this more serious type of girls baseball, rather than just slice of life feel.
Seriously hoping for a miracle for season 2 of this. But I know most won’t get on board with this anime Cuz of the slightly mediocre quality of animation compared to others… But I still want a season 2 😭 please 🙏

You can check out the other girls’ baseball shows I mentioned, Taishou Yakyuu Musume, Princess Nine and Cinderella Nine.

Tama and Yomi want each other as much as the second big couple.

Unfortunately the average at best animation left a bad taste in many mouths, which sucks because the show is pretty good.

You summed things up pretty well, I honestly don’t really have much more to say that wasn’t said already.

Since you didn’t name who was involved in the surprise blaze of glory moment in the final ep, I’ll refrain from naming names as well. Gotta say that was a pleasant surprise, I wasn’t expecting that. Nice build up ending in a confession. Good stuff.

I think if I was so say something negative about this show, is that they really leave you hanging and ultimately it’s a ‘read the source material’ ending, which I really don’t like. Not that I don’t like reading or anything, but it just gives in the impression that this was just a 12 ep commercial for the manga and nothing more. Tamayomi isn’t the worst offender of this by any means, I’m not bashing it for that, more of a general statement. For what we got here, a solid 12 eps of baseball and I’m not disappointed at all about that.

So yeah, all in all this show about baseball was exactly that and it didn’t side track itself with needless drama or other story lines that aren’t important to the overall story. In a way it kinda reminded me of Harukana Receive, it’s main focus was always on the sport and nothing else. While this is the end for this show, I’d like to think that that girls of Shin Koshigaya will continue on their winning ways and reach that ultimate goal of winning the Nationals like they set out to in the beginning.

Oh yes. That was the big surprise moment of the show.

Sadly you get used to Manga Bait/Lure anime after seeing so many of them. Still sucks but it is what it is.

Both shows kept the drama to a minimum and stayed the course. Perfect for sports anime. We can hope they won the Summer Tournament, yes. They’re definitely competing in the Nationals..

I liked this one. It was cute.

Ibuki was my favorite! She’s such a cutie!

Lovely. My favourite girl is “sex symbol” Tama and my favourite parts were the fights over her. I like how she’s always embarrassed about the attention she gets from her suitors, but she seems to accept being a sex symbol and girl magnet anyway. No wonder with her looks and her voice ^^

The other main romance is just as beautiful, I love those two cuties!

I would dearly want to see more of this story in some way.

I want to add the second most important couple Yoshino x Nozomi, they have their own skinship illustration as Blu-ray bonus. It’ the only couple with a skinship illustration, weirdly even the main couple doesn’t have one

Definately not the best when it comes to animation since I think this is probably not one of the best Manga Time Kirara adaptations, but yes the story didn’t disappoint. It’s nice that it focused less on the drama, but more on the character development of the team, yuri moments and baseball. But still, it’s quite amazing that they pulled though in the second game in the tournament, despite having all the odds stacked against them. It’s something that Cinderella Nine didn’t quite have, especially since they only made it past the first round in nationals.

But yes, the pairings are nice. Still, the manga is still on the list of titles I want to read. I still haven’t even read the first volume yet.

I kinda lost track of what anime are based on MTK manga series.

Good clean gay baseball thigh fun, this was and that was all I asked for.

Cinderella Nine had potential but fell short.

  7. Mauron says:

As a non-sports fan, this one lost me at times. They’d be talking all baseball with (probably) real terms and I’d be quite confused. So if you like Baseball, I recommend it.

Cutest characters were Risa, Oomura, and our quite stunning teacher, but no shortage elsewhere.

Nozomi and Yoshino stole the yuri title from the title couple for me. The flames of passion burned brightly within them… ok, what about a chuuni style lesbian baseball series? I’d watch it.

Just like with Cinderella Nine, I warmed up to this show but faster (by the 4th episode here). The matches were good but that match with Ryouyukan was especially exhilarating. I would watch more the off chance that it does get another round.

Yoshino’s #1 for me. I loved the enthusiasm she had for baseball and its players. I might be over exaggerating when I say this but she is one the best coaches/managers I’ve ever seen. I felt so sorry for her when she started getting doubtful over the calls she made. Good thing Nozomi not only cheered her up, but gave her such a wonderful gift with that homer. Her being a twin helps, too. Speaking of, Ibuki sure had certain players wanting to take her on personally due to her tracing ability. I liked her personality.

So yeah, Yoshino and Nozomi had such a huge moment at the end but the title characters had the most of it with other pairings here and there.

I can’t decide whether this or Hamefura as my anime of the season. The animation didn’t really bother me. Maybe because I didn’t see that certain drop quality episode. Thanks for that. And I’m pretty familiar with CG. There are four couples. One, the main couple who always on top of each other, literally (I’m talking to you, Yomi). Tama is more the shy one but we know her true feeling. And second couple is the senpais. They didn’t get to much screen time but it’s okay. The third couple is the tsundere couple, also didn’t get much screen time. The fourth one, I had a feeling about these two, I knew they building up to it. And what I got was more than I can expect. So glorious. I was like, YESSSS! Definitely second big couple after TamaYomi. The other girls are likable. And poor Ibuki, no one trust her ability lol. Not even herself. She is adorable tho. Ah yes, all the girls are so hot. I like their character design, so old school. I love the ED song, which also old school, very catchy. The second season is very unlikely. I think the manga still ongoing. It’s Saki all over again. But one can hope.

Same here. Watched anime for so long when I run into ones with below average quality but are so much fun to watch (and the ladies being as hot as they are here) I look past it.

Four lovely couples. Some getting more time to snuggle than others. That between the #2 couple was glorious!

      Bless Ibuki.

Yeah. Shame we most likely won’t get more animated but what we got was wonderful.

Great review! I googled on some baseball rules and pitching styles and that helped me understand how the matches went.
