When we last left our heroines they were playing their first big game, Round 1 of the Summer Tournament. Their first opponents were already pretty tough with a “quick” play style. Things changed when Risa was called back and Ibuki took the pitcher’s mound.
The big showdown between Ibuki and the pissed enemy pitcher, fuming she copied her signature pitch, was underway. She got angrier due to Ibuki repeatedly hitting Foul Balls. For the unaware these are balls hit outside of the field line. Normally Foul Balls count as Strikes but any fouls after the 2nd Strike don’t count as a 3rd one, meaning the batter can avoid a Strikeout. Problem is this stalls the game somewhat.
Infuriated by repeated foul balls the pitcher lost control hitting (beaned) Ibuki by accident, giving her a base. Fortunately Ibuki could still go and didn’t need to be switched out.
When it’s Nozomi’s turn at bat she knew what to do. After that our heroines made a fiery comeback scoring run after run. The enemy pitcher had completely lost focus. Even Yomi, arguably the weakest at bat, got her very first hit. In fact, it was the winning hit. I don’t know much about the “Mercy” rule but basically our heroines’ advantage was too much for their opponents to overcome thus the Umpire declared them the winners by Mercy. Yomi didn’t get to pitch but Ibuki tried calming her bruised ego by reminding her of her winning hit.
Fortunately for the losers they didn’t go home sad. Most likely they’ll work on a new strategy, “Operation Anti-Ibuki”.
While watching Ryoyukan’s first round game Yoshino grew concerned seeing how tough they were. The team needed to step up their game big time to stand a chance. Even Yomi’s classmates thought they’re screwed.
Ryoyukan are the classic devoted super academy in most sports stories the hero team must overcome to achieve greatness. Miss Fujii calculated the odds our heroines would beat them is 13%. Yoshino said they can weather the early storm and take it from there.
Yomi’s like “You’ve been distant from me a while now. From now on I’m not leaving your side!”. They focused on improving Yomi’s Fastball. Again can’t rely too heavily on the Magic Pitch, especially against token super opponents like Ryoyukan.
Not much to add regarding Ryoryukan getting ready for Round 2.
Miss Fujii’s reaction after meeting her was priceless.
Lastly we have Yomi’s reactions to the starting lineup changes before and after Yoshino’s explanation.
Next time it’s the highly anticipated battle between Yomi and Kazumi (‘s teams).
PS: Bless Yomi.
