Tamayomi Episode 9: Round 1 Comeback

When we last left our heroines they were playing their first big game, Round 1 of the Summer Tournament. Their first opponents were already pretty tough with a “quick” play style. Things changed when Risa was called back and Ibuki took the pitcher’s mound.

Ibuki in trouble

Ibuki in a pinch.

The big showdown between Ibuki and the pissed enemy pitcher, fuming she copied her signature pitch, was underway. She got angrier due to Ibuki repeatedly hitting Foul Balls. For the unaware these are balls hit outside of the field line. Normally Foul Balls count as Strikes but any fouls after the 2nd Strike don’t count as a 3rd one, meaning the batter can avoid a Strikeout. Problem is this stalls the game somewhat.

Ibuki hit by Slider pitch

Unfortunately Ibuki’s ass wasn’t as mighty as Tama’s.

Infuriated by repeated foul balls the pitcher lost control hitting (beaned) Ibuki by accident, giving her a base. Fortunately Ibuki could still go and didn’t need to be switched out.

Ibuki's bump

Ibuki’s thighs may not be made of iron but they’re still tough.

Yomi's first hit

Yomi’s first hit.

When it’s Nozomi’s turn at bat she knew what to do. After that our heroines made a fiery comeback scoring run after run. The enemy pitcher had completely lost focus. Even Yomi, arguably the weakest at bat, got her very first hit. In fact, it was the winning hit. I don’t know much about the “Mercy” rule but basically our heroines’ advantage was too much for their opponents to overcome thus the Umpire declared them the winners by Mercy. Yomi didn’t get to pitch but Ibuki tried calming her bruised ego by reminding her of her winning hit.

All is well

They’ll be tougher opponents next time.

Fortunately for the losers they didn’t go home sad. Most likely they’ll work on a new strategy, “Operation Anti-Ibuki”.

Yomi's friends not liking her chances

Yomi’s classmates not liking her chances.

While watching Ryoyukan’s first round game Yoshino grew concerned seeing how tough they were. The team needed to step up their game big time to stand a chance. Even Yomi’s classmates thought they’re screwed.

Miss Fujii holding a PS Vita

Miss Fujii and a PS Vita simulation of Shin Koshigaya vs Ryoyukan.

Ryoyukan are the classic devoted super academy in most sports stories the hero team must overcome to achieve greatness. Miss Fujii calculated the odds our heroines would beat them is 13%. Yoshino said they can weather the early storm and take it from there.

Yomi feeling lonely

Yomi feeling lonely.

Yomi’s like “You’ve been distant from me a while now. From now on I’m not leaving your side!”. They focused on improving Yomi’s Fastball. Again can’t rely too heavily on the Magic Pitch, especially against token super opponents like Ryoyukan.

Miss Fujii back at bat

You know things are serious when Miss Fujii graces us with her divine presence on the field.

Miss Fujii losing energy

Alas she’s at the “I’m getting too old for this” phase of her post-career.

Nao and Rei

Team Captains.

Not much to add regarding Ryoryukan getting ready for Round 2.

Coach Kurita

Ryoryukan Coach Kurita. Age 45.

Miss Fujii’s reaction after meeting her was priceless.

Lastly we have Yomi’s reactions to the starting lineup changes before and after Yoshino’s explanation.

Yomi before Yoshino's explanation

Before explanation.

Yomi after Yoshino's explanation

After explanation.

Next time it’s the highly anticipated battle between Yomi and Kazumi (‘s teams).

PS: Bless Yomi.

Yomi doesn´t hide her love for Tamaki in front of all, but I think they already know – even if Tamaki is a little bit embarrassed about – and the next game will be a battle for Tamaki(´s love) and who will advance to the next round in the tournament.

Nozomi gives her best for her beloved Yoshino, too.

Ibuki is my Best Girl. Nuff said.

Yomi was such a cutie this episode.

Also coach x coach romance please.

I would never have guess that Nakayama would pitch a baseball at Ibuki’s butt. I know it’s an accident, but then again, Nakayama was angry when Ibuki imitated her pitch perfectly. Still, a win is a win after all.

Still, like the moments with Yomi trying to show her love for Tama. Also, never thought that Ms Fuji would break out a Playstation Vita.

A little late to this but at least I watched it before the next ep came out.

Great ep this week. Enjoying this show more and more each week, something I didn’t think would happen given how I’m not into baseball. Exciting finish to their first game, once they got on a roll they were in the zone. Their next opponent looks tough though, that should be an even better game.

Ryoryukan’s coach being almost 45 blew my mind. She looks so young.

Ms. Fuji with the PS Vita was a surprise. She’s truly a woman of culture.

Good stuff all around. Eager to watch the next ep!

That “yomi windmill swinging moment” is so cute, and that age 45 coach looks just like a high school girl 😀
