Having played their first game but not getting the desired outcome our heroines agreed to hold a training camp. Plus they got to go up against two more experienced teams in practice games.
Yoshino called over some girls for an “interview”. Sadly not only were rhey off screen but this time it was intentional and not an animation botch. Poo. The reason for the interviews was to see which of the girls could become another pitcher. There’s a good reason why teams have more than one pitcher. Some games can go on for hours so pitchers can only have so much stamina before their pitches become much easier to hit.
Ibuki and Risa were chosen. Ibuki was able to copy Asakusa the Ace from the previous episode’s technique but not her power. At least her slow ball had its advantages. Risa being the “thiccest” player pitched heavy balls. Yomi was worried Yoshino bringing up pitching issues meant she’d get fired but of course was quickly relieved.
Having said that it didn’t mean Yomi’s pitching game was without its flaws. Luckily Yoshino brought a special sketch to help her improve, much to Ibuki’s dismay though she’s used to it.
Later that evening Rei found Risa practicing her swing. She thanked her for being by her side long after their old teammates left. Risa said she’d a “selfish” reason for staying, being with Rei (Specifically playing together on the same team but come on, she just wants to be with her). Nothing selfish about that at all girl. You go get your Rei.
Nozomi blamed herself for the team’s losses because as Yoshino mentioned she wasn’t good at hitting RBI (runs batted in) when needed. She kept getting Outs. Similar to Rei and Risa Yoshino found Nozomi practicing her swings but she’d trained herself to exhaustion. Nozomi said it’s similar to her old team and felt it’s her fault the team kept losing but Yoshino assured her everyone knew they had more work to do. She knew another player (Yomi) who wanted to quit because she blamed herself for the losses and had a plan to turn things around. We’ll see how it goes next time.
Good training and character building episode.
