22/7 Episode 4: Sakura Hearts

It looks like the girls will each get episodes revolving around them from now on. I’m cool with that.

Kid Sakura and Granny Sakura

Kid Sakura and Granny Sakura.

Watching Sakura’s flashback brought memories of my own childhood, except my parents didn’t work overseas or were super busy all the time.

Before we get to the flashbacks let’s go over the setup.

Mom supports Miu

Mom supports Miu.

Miu discussed the strangeness of being an idol. She thought she wouldn’t be up to snuff but after 22/7’s first concert she experienced a positive rush and it felt inexplicably good. Mom noticed the positive effects and was like “Go idoling my child”. Miu briefly wondered who sent the invitation to her mom but when even Gorilla Goda didn’t know she let dropped it for the time being.

The country of Murica

The country of Murica.

Sakura be very good at Engrish, yes.

Nicole avoiding contact with Miu

Here’s the L.V. moment of the episode.

Suddenly Mr Wall pooped its next order. Our heroines’ latest objective was to complete a photo shoot at Hitome Senbonzakura. Naturally the shoot had to be finished on the assigned day. “The Wall says know your damn role”, remember?

Sakura and Granny Sakura near the sakura tree

Sakura and Sakura near the sakura tree.

Another flashback that we will get to in a bit.

Miu trying to talk to Sakura

C’mon Miu. Ya gotta step up.

Sakura paradise

Sakura at the sakura paradise.

Right then. So when she was younger Sakura loved her grandma of the same name very much. Her parents were so busy they were hardly around so Granny Sakura was more like a mom to her. Plus their jobs required moving a lot so it left a bitter taste. One day while visiting their namesake tree Granny Sakura mentioned an amazing sight this time of year in Japan. It took place at the exact location of the photo shoot. For that reason Present Sakura was so focused on getting there no train delay would stop her. They made it in time but the photo shoot would soon be in jeopardy.

Sakura and Granny Sakura making a promise

Sakura and Granny Sakura pinky swear.

I think this pic speaks for itself. I don’t need to add anything else. Having gone through something similar a year and a half ago the penultimate flashback hit me really hard…It was done brilliantly I’d say.

Sakura's encouraging smile

Sakura’s encouraging smile.

Though hurting inside Sakura did her best to encourage everyone to not let rain stop them from completing their mission. Most of the girls were unsure…except one.

Miu the sweet talker

Atta girl Miu. You stepped up.

Miu X Sakura + rainy sakura

Yeeeeeeeeeeeesssssss.

Like Akane said rainy sakura are a beautiful sight too.

Miu X Sakura photo

To quote my “nee-san from another kaa-san”: “The cover of yuri magazine”.

Sakura got a text from her parents

Sakura getting a not so reassuring text.

There was one last flashback of Sakura pleading with her parents to let her join 22/7. Papa agreed but as the text she got indicated she only had one more year before moving back to Murica. Yet more evidence of her being the Kotori of the show.

Sakura ED

Sakura ED.

Looking forward to dem Singles.

Excellent episode. Next time it’s Miyako’s turn. I’ll get a grave ready to bury a certain vampire cat.

It’s strange, but so far — and I know we’re only a tiny bit into the story and everything might change — the Wall has been extremely kind to the girls.

It forced Miu to shine in a way she would never have done otherwise, and had her mom be there to watch.

And now it arranged for Sakura to be in the perfect place to consolidate her most precious memories, and have her friends (and lover) there by her side.

The giraffe inside the Wall that kicks metal plates off a stack seems very gentle so far.

It would be an interesting twist if this was all going to go as positively… but it’s an anime, I still fear a lot of calamity is to come.

Ayaka has become one of my favourites. I just love it when a tough looking girl dresses ultra-feminine and sweet, and Ayaka in her 22/7 dress is so adorable and huggable.

Looks like all the girls get their own episode! Can’t wait for Nicole’s and Ayaka’s. Oh and an onsen episode. Please ^^

I love Nicole just for Nicole, but her suddenly being a bit flustered at the sight of Miu promises something more. A love triangle?

Nicolle being embarrassed while she meets Miu’s eyes was so cute.

The “your smile is beautiful” moment was also very cute.

And of course she has to go back to the USA. I hate that trope.

Speaking of that trope how is Star Twinkle Precure? I’m still at the beginning and I wonder if it’s worth continuing to watch it. The main thing I’m worried about is Lala being forced to go back home and separated from the others.

I’m just gonna hope that it leads into a scene with another one of the characters being the reason she gets over that picture entity (who clearly doesn’t care about her anyway)
I’m banking on that one pretty hard….because she’s been my favorite character so far….please…

    Anyway, fantastic episode ;_;

Was crying a lot. A bit(lot) sad they didn’t let her talk in English more in the scenes when she was with her parents (because they sure wouldn’t be speaking JP), but it’s to be expected.

The girls keep on thinking that there were “talks for a while”, but these poor staffers are really having to crazy things on a moment’s notice XD Gotta respect them for all the crazy work they’re pulling off without any time to prepare. They’re the unsung heroes of this show

  4. The Wall can see the future, damn!
It’s kinda creepy but hey at least its using its energy to produce an idol group instead of taking over the world lol

That aside I love this focus on Sakura this ep. Having each member have a focus episode helps flesh them out and helps me remember their names (I suck at remembering names lol)

A wonderful story of Sakura. The story hit me hard too. I left my parents when I was in middle school (I got accepted to a better school) and lived with my grandma. Until the very end. Anyway, I want to point out (again) Sakura x Miu moments. Miu was the one who noticed there’s something wrong with Sakura. But alas, Miu still doesn’t have the courage to ask. Be the top we proud of, Miu. I hope they’re getting closer. Now that their yuri magazine is sold out around Japan (I think). Also, I’m guessing Sakura last week was about to ask Miu to go to see Sakura tree with her. I mean, Sakura went to Japan right after she got the invitation from the wall. She didn’t have time to go sightseeing. That text was a letdown but we know something like this happens a lot. And we know how it usually ends. Sakura character song is nice too. Cute voice. Now about Miyako, like I said on twitter my positive side of me telling me that was her brother. I hope I’m right. The show is unpredictable, so why stop now.

Awesome grandparents must be cherished. I had my bad moments but not once did I stop loving grandpa.

Miu’s getting there. One step at a time.

I’m guessing it was sold across Japan.

That may be what she wanted to ask her.

Hopefully if they go down that route it ends similarly as in Love Live!

Yeah. If he’s her bro it’ll be less cumbersome.

I saw this one coming from a ways out but the feels were still real.

Good Sakura ep though, really nice how they’re taking an ep to focus on one character and not splice in backstory here and there along the way and ruin the overall flow of things.

Their photo shoot still worked out in the end and I think it might have turned out better than expected.

The Wall is still weird, gotta say.

      Yup. Dem feels.

I’m guessing 22/7 will continue doing their thing and while each girl faces their demons or something like that each episode.

They got some amazing shots no doubt.

      Yup.
