Time again to talk about the other shows I’m watching but not covering weekly and give my thoughts on them so far.
As always no manga/light novel spoilers.
Let’s start with BOFURI, aka “I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense.”, aka “Itai no wa Iya nano de Bōgyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu“. Someone on Twitter described the show as similar to Gun Gale Online where the isekai stuff is more people playing a virtual reality game than being resurrected after meeting the “Truck of Doom”. It features a protagonist, Username: Maple, getting overpowered really fast by breaking the rules in ways I do not get. This bothered some viewers but to me it was like “Eh. It’s a modern isekai show. OP protagonists are par for the course”. Plus they addressed this at the start of Episode 3 in one of the best jokes of the show. So far to me the show is decent. The serious battles are cool but don’t get my blood pumping like in GGO. Still, I have enough interest to see what will happen to Maple, Sally and their soon to be party members.
So far Maple and her bestie, Username: Sally, have potential but compared to the many other Winter 2020 couples and ships they have the weakest yuri vibes. The dinner date shown in the pic was cute but I need more. It’s only 3 episodes in as of this writing and I’m confident their bond will grow stronger over time. You never know.
Next up we have Eizouken. So far it’s not yuri but it stars a trio of girls so it’s worth discussing here. Put simply Eizouken is one part “visual marvel” one part “Anime Ed, Edd n Eddy”. I will go more in depth when I review the show but the visual marvel refers to two of the three girls interested in animation. We already got anime about working in the anime industry and mangaka but Eizouken is about drawing anime and all the bells and whistles that go into drawing them. Best parts are when the girls use their imagination. What they do with concept art on the show is amazing. The girls themselves are great too. The one standing out the most obviously being the tall and lanky one that I described as “throwing Satsuki Kiryuin and Wario into a blender“.
Third is one that surprised me. Show By Rock! Mashumairesh, aka Show By Rock 3. While I am sad we did not get a proper conclusion to Plasmagica’s story (specifically Cyan X Retoree) the new main band have proven to be more than worthy new leads.
A nice touch is unlike Cyan who was transported from the human world to the musical one, Howan (fox, I think) is a denizen of the latter so no isekai this time. Important characters remain the only ones with a humanoid animal form while everyone else are chibi animals. On stage performances are still in 3D CG Chibi though sometimes it is a mix between humanoid and CG Chibi. The new male band are not as manly as ShingancrimsonZ (Their manliness cannot be topped) they’re still pretty cool. So far there is no battle to protect the musical world. Maybe an enemy will pop up at some point.
The main love story is similar to SBR 1 and 2 as Himeko plays the role of Retoree here. The one difference being Retoree was a horny dog who couldn’t contain her love for Cyan in private (In S2 everyone pretty much figured it out) and Himeko is a tsundere cat having difficulty understanding her crush on Howan and hiding her embarrassment. Howan on her end appears to have no issue with potentially dating Himeko. Basically I am digging the new main couple. Delmin and Ruhuyu are emanating yuri vibes too so fingers crossed there.
When it comes to BanG Dream 3 it’s become clear the focus is on Poppin’ Party, RAISE A SULLEN and sometimes Roselia. Whenever the other bands get the spotlight it is only to remind viewers they exist. With S2 and (mainly) 3 having the goal of establishing RAISE A SULLEN I suppose it is what it is. Since I haven’t talked about the show in a while I might as well review S2 and S3 when the latter finishes. However, due to scheduling reasons and promoting the new Singles as soon as possible the 2nd half of S3 won’t air till late February if I’m not mistaken.
If it sounds like I dislike S2 and 3 that’s not true. It’s still good (except the O-Tae drama going on for too long).
All I want to say about Railgun T, aka Railgun 3 is Misaki being a fascinating creature. Ever since I first saw her in Railgun 2 I’ve been entranced with this enigma. The other Railgun cuties not named Mikoto or Kuroko are still wonderful. As for the main story I didn’t watch Index or Accelerator so I’m following it as best as I can.
As for Heya Camp, it’s Yuru Camp shorts. It serves its purpose of a delightful little appetizer for the eventual S3 and movie.
Other shows I’m watching:
- Somali and the Forest Guardian (Fun and chill fantasy show but I have a feeling waterworks are coming)
- Ishuzoku Reviewers (Surprisingly good mega ecchi. Definitely not for ecchi haters.)
- Runway de Waratte (Good stuff.)
That’s about it.
Oh right. I know more people will probably ask why I’m not watching the Nekopara anime. My answer is, “Don’t force me to watch it. I’m waiting for the right moment. If it comes I’ll pick it up. If not, screw it.” I REALLY don’t like people telling me to do something I don’t want to.
No mention of Asteroid in Love?

He reviews it every week and these anime not. Read the description.

I had absolutely no hope for BOFURI to have yuri in it and I checked it only because of the female protagonist but so far it’s actually pretty promising.
Eizoken is so interested and pleasant to watch. Throwing Satsuki Kiryuin and Wario into a blender is the perfect description of Kanamori.
Ishuzoku Reviewers is one of those thing that i wonder how or why it exist but at the same time I’m so glad it does. The latest episode with the gender bender inn was something great.

BOFURI: I’ve had hope for Sally and Maple since Maple bought an expensive video game system that she wasn’t very interested in to spend time with her “friend” (Aka lover and mighty steed). The date was just wonderful.
If my favorite girl band made it to the Bodukan, I could die: O-Tae is good fun. As usual, the series needs more Yuri-rin. Hopefully she at least tops her two words in season 2. Best exchange so far:
A-chan: Stay away from my Rokka!
Chu2, on music brain: Oh, you’re her manager.
A-chan,on gay brain: Manager?
Railgun T: I need to catch the anime. I think it’s covering parts I’ve seen in the Railgun manga and Index novels, but I probably won’t be watching the anime as it comes out until Railgun U or V.
Gay-ya Camp: Cute cute cute and more cute. Eventually the cast will be like that couple they met, dragging around a photo album from before their weddings.
My favorites this season are BOFURI and Asteroid in Lesbians.

BOFURI and Asteroid it is.

I love Bofuri. I could watch entire episodes of Maple just being happy and cute. Like other viewers I don’t have any expectations of yuri other than my imagination (at the dinner date I was thinking, “and comfortably close to here is a nice bedroom platform in the treetops with a soft double bed, a view of the stars, a shower of starlight and no shower curtains”). Sally definitely already collected more hours holding her girlfriend’s cute bottom than anyone else.
I can’t wait to see more of the pretty petite sisters with their striped hair, they look adorable.
As for Railgun, something always makes me lose interest halfway through an episode – perhaps it’s not my show ^^
I expected nothing from Ishizoku Reviewers but enjoyed it too much. Going to watch all of it. The hyena on angel delights (like OG said, this is only for ecchi lovers ^^) count as some of the nicest yuri in a long while, in its own twisted way of course.
Hoping for lots of happiness for Himeko the blush queen and her Howan. A shame that their manager is so featureless compared to the old one. I would rewatch the previous Show by Rocks just to listen to the manager.
I saw one Nekopara episode and no less than two catgirls fawning over other girls and fantasizing about kisses and things. Might be a show to keep in mind for emergency entertainment.
Murenase! Seton Gakuen is fun. Unclear whether there will be yuri, but it’s enjoyable regardless. And it wins the prize for most abundantly lovely background girls. Almost every group shot begs to pause the video and explore the cuties.

As I said it BOFURI has potential.
Probably not.
That was the first ultra steamy scene of the year. Twas lovely.
Rooting hard for Himeko and Howan.
Waiting to see if the right time comes. IF it comes I will let everyone know.

Alright, well you were clear you don’t want to watch it right now, but you’ve made me curious. Any hints on what would make it the “right moment” to watch Nekopara? xD

If you cannot wait then by all means go for it. I will let everyone know whether the right time came or not when we reach the halfway point of the season.

Am I the ONLY one who can ship 2 girls in Eizouken? Like Tsubame and Midori are definitely loaded with potential 🙂

Mostly, but there’s an episode where they change gender to try out lesbian sex.

It’s nice that Rokka is finally in a band. While it’s somewhat obvious that ChuChu will try to recruit her, but at least it worked out in the end. Yes, even if Rokka has to pound Poppin Party and Roselia into mochi

BOFURI -this one was really fun. Maple being OP is hilarious (and I love how she’s hit with a nerf patch!) The boss battles are really well done too.
Eizouken – I didn’t watch the PVs for this so I didn’t know what to expect, but I thought it’s 3 girls, should be fun! Blew my mind, I love this show now.
Bandori – I’ve only seen the anime (never played the games), well its nice Rokka is in a band now. Looks like we’ll have a showdown between Roselia and r\Raise a Sullen.
Railgun – Like you, I haven’t seen Index or Accelerator, but so far this season seems fun. We’ll see. I did manage to enjoy Sisters despite it being dependent on Index.

Itai – this is the best one for me. Two girls doing rpg, simple and fun.
Bang Dream – enjoyable. Not really much yuri, but I’ve always liked this anime for the girls and good music.
Show by Rock – started promising, but I can’t watch even the first 5 minutes of episode 3. Having boy bands for almost the entire 25 minutes turned it into a shit show. Hard pass, and dropped permanently.

Bofuri: I like Bofuri the most on this list. It’s such fun watching isekai but still, I keep reminding my self they were playing a game. Sometimes I forgot. Yuri part, it has a lot of potentials. I’m waiting for that moment.
Eizouken: Great animation, unique voice. Funny conversation too. Although they talk too fast sometimes I had to pause it.
Show By Rock: My second favorite. Still a fun show like the previous shows. Good music. Himeko is so smitten by Howan. She’s so cute. I hope there will be progress in Himeko x Howan department.
BanG Dream and Railgun: I still need to catch up.
Heya Camp: Relaxing as always.
Non yuri
Somali: I have to prepare for that waterworks.
Ishuzoku: I enjoyed it. I learned a lot. About a bunch of stuff. Fun fact: Crimvael and Gabriel (as in Drop out) have the same seiyuu.
Runway de Waratte: Beautiful animation. I’m so invested in the story.
Hanako-kun: Funny horror anime.

This season is pretty light without a big title to cause reaction

I totally ship Maple and Sally, although I strongly suspect they’ll just remain best friends… who tour romantic date spots together, have romantic dinners together, and who promise their “first times” to each other (doesn’t mean what you think it means).
