Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu Episode 3: More Hurdles of Idols and Idol Stans

Life sure is tough for performers and fans who take each other super seriously.

Cham Jam on Stage

After one of their songs the girls answered a question. This time related to high school clubs. Sorane answered being in the tennis club. Apparently this shocked 3rd Guy. Something about it not fitting with his image of her. Thankfully Eripiyo and friends were aware how wrong it was for diehards to project their image of how their idols should be, even though part of them clung to said image. Anyway Eripiyo and Kumasu talked about reincarnating as their fav idols’ ideal partners.

Moving on we joined the trio at a zoo where another show was held and their seat numbers would be drawn at random. The line wasn’t super long so our heroes figured drawing a lucky number would be a cinch. Eripiyo wasn’t lucky that day (Reminds me of my luck with digital code lotteries). Being the uber Maina stan she’s undeterred. In fact she came prepared. She read in a magazine interview Maina describing her ideal person, a tall person with a trim stache.

Eripiyo coming prepared

How very profound Eripiyo.

Maina not sure how to respond to Eripiyo's getup

Maina not sure how to respond to Eripiyo’s getup.

When Eripiyo brought up the reason behind her getup Maina was like “Huh? I just took notes off Hikari from Rifle is Beautiful and answered on a whim”. So Eripiyo explained she wanted to do her best to become Maina’s ideal and Maina said “You don’t have to do that”. Eripiyo misinterpreted it as “Just be my fan, nothing more” when in reality Main meant she loved Eripiyo just the way she was. Not going through the whole conversation. The gist of it is it went better than most of their discussions but not by much. Some progress but A LOOOOOOONG WAY TO GO still.

That encounter did lead to our heroes having an epiphany about idols

Eripiyo getting a text

On to the next show. Eripiyo and Kumasu agreed to sleep at an internet cafe to get in line early. Unfortunately that evening Eripiyo got a text from 3rd Guy and realized she got the date and venue mixed up.

Eripiyo's cruelty

Eripiyo’s cruelty.

Kumasu and viewers saw Eripiyo’s cruel reaction to the big guy asking for help but we all expected it and it was hilarious.

Eripiyo sweaty

Eripiyo sweaty.

Another funny moment was Maina wondering where Eripiyo was followed by why she thought she was sweaty upon spotting her in the back. Speaking of our heroine she wasn’t alone. More on this new girl in a bit.

Yuka greeting her line

Yuka greeting her line.

Aya was a bit envious of Yuka’s assertiveness and popularity among the “back row members” even if it stung being labeled as such. Maina wondered if she could try being assertive too but she remembered the number of people in her lines per show and thought otherwise.

Back to the mystery girl.

Maina and mystery girl

Maina and Mystery Girl.

As Maina greeted the new girl Eripiyo looked on with glee. Her beloved got a new fan.

Rena and her brother

3rd Guy’s imouto.

Later the girl was spotted alongside 3rd Guy. She was his imouto Rena. Pay close attention to her appearance and suddenly “IT” makes sense…So Rena was another fan of Maina’s. Eripiyo was ecstatic because it meant her dearest was another step closer to achieving the ultimate goal. The two agreed to attend the next meet and greet.

Maina seeing Rena and Eripiyo together

Maina sees Rena and Eripiyo side by side.

At the event Maina sneaked a peek and saw Rena with Eripiyo. Take a wild guess how she reacted. Eripiyo reacted similarly when she saw Maina trying out a more open approach to greeting fans. She’s like “It’s great seeing Maina getting more fans but why do I feel uneasy all of a sudden?”

Eripiyo answering an important question

Eripiyo answering an important question.

When it was her turn she felt conflicted. She thought long and hard about what it meant for Maina to become famous. She needed more fans. She understood but still felt uneasy about it. Obviously Maina noticed her uneasiness after asking if she loved her. Eripiyo said yes, as a loyal fan, but that wasn’t the kind of love she meant. Too bad time ran out. Outside Eripiyo noticed the unease in Maina also.

Eripiyo and Maina on a train

Fated meeting.

As if drawn together by fate Eripiyo and Maina met on a train. Seeing “Private Maina” was like seeing a perfect angel but fear (the fear of falling in love) took over as she couldn’t get herself to properly converse with her. Maina, having great difficulty expressing her true feelings in person, was on the same boat.

Basically Eripiyo is afraid of accepting her growing romantic feelings for Maina. It’s a diehard fan trying to hook up with her favorite celebrity but struggling with the desire to see her succeed and the desire to keep her all to herself. Plus she doesn’t know Maina loves her the same way. Also Maina’s shyness is contributing to the wall separating the two.

By now most viewers must have figured out this is a slow burn love story. A “waiting game” romance if you will. Either you want to see how far they go in the anime or get annoyed by how slow their development is.

Next time promises “THEY” will get more screen time.

I understand it’s a slow burn, but Eripiyo misunderstanding all the time and Maina keeping all her romantic thoughts to herself instead of saying them still hurts. It doesn’t help that Eripiyo is scared and Maina needs some help to word her questions properly. I love this show, but I seriously need Maina to at least smile at her next episode, my heart can only take so much.

Oh Eripiyo you beautiful hopeless lesbian, if you truly love her then go for it, tell Maina your feelings in the most truthful manner (not the otaku way though). This is already an absolute win for her since the feeling is pretty much mutual for Maina at this point.

Hmmmmm, Rena is also interested in Maina as well, could this potentially be a threes……gun shot…..love triangle?

Also, the lack of Maki and Sumire makes me sed.

    Another great episode.

The Eripiyo’s cruelty scene was hilarious!

Again I got to say I’m loving Eripiyo’s voice actress!

I actually like slow burn stories so I’m good with the pace for this story.

Looking forward to more of “Them” next week!

Had me laughing quite a bit.

She’s also voiced Dumbbell’s Hibiki and Kandagawa’s Emily so there’s good reason you are entranced by Eripiyo.

Hopefully our patience is rewarded. I have a good feeling it will personally.

so pumped for more scenes of them together.

It’s the right pace. Big progress even. Episode one introducing Eripiyo and her undying love for Maina as a fan. Plus we get to see that Maina is in love with Eripiyo too. Episode 2, we see more of Maina and what’s troubling her the most, to tell Eripiyo how she feels. She can’t do it face to face let alone on handshake event, there are people there. And there’s ChamJam staff. She wants a letter from Eripiyo so she can reply to her back. Episode 3, Eripiyo starting to realized she loves Maina in a romantic way, and that’s scared her. And Maina doesn’t want Eripiyo to love her as a fan. That’s scared her too. I mean, that’s gold, for a drama fan like me. We know they love each other. It’s frustrating sometimes but that’s the main point of this anime. At least they both trying in their own way, instead of one girl fell head over heels over one girl who emotionless. I hope that makes sense. Also Maina thanks Eripiyo to always come to her handshake event because that’s the closest thing they can get.

I can’t really comment on Rena yet except she does look like Sorane. And she had a strong impact in this episode. So yeah, we had a big drama in this episode, the next one will be a fun one.

I like the new cute mini-Sorane. I wonder what kind of twist she will put into things.

That little idiot Maina should give Eripiyo a tiny bit more to work on. Her shy three word sentences don’t make things easy. But I stopped expecting a resolution in the early episodes, which makes this show much more enjoyable to watch. I trust that the happy ending will come, and until then we just have to cheer on the two clueless heroines.

More Maki and Yume next episode, yay! I like watching their performances and imagining what it’s like for Yume to see her lover in front of her all the time ^^ Let’s hope we learn more about Aya and Yuka too.

Since Eripiyo and Maina are not going to have their destined union until later, I want an entire episode of Maki and Yume kissing in the meantime ^^

The bigger issue was the distance that ironically Eury put between them, that was kind of resolve this episode

  7. Nick says:

Another excellent ep this week in the other idol show of the season.

I totally thought Rena was Sorane’s little sister. They look so similar, it’s crazy. Now I’m wondering if Sorane does have a little sister…

I think the highlight of this ep has gotta be the scene at the end with Eripiyo and Maina on the train. That was such a nice scene and it really set the tone that this show is gonna be a slow burn one and that’s really gonna weed out who this show is for and who it’s not for. It’s not looking like a fast paced show each week with Eripiyo and Maina sorting things out easily, rather we’re in the long haul here as these two girls sort out their feelings for each other and hopefully coming together at some point after all is said and done.

Meanwhile I missed seeing Maki and Yumeri being a cute couple. I really hope they stick with their relationship through the show, that moment last week was really nice and I’d love to see more of them together.

Needless to say, this show passes the 3 ep trial with flying colors. Then again I knew it would after ep 1.

      So good!

Would be neat if she did have an imouto.

Yup. The anticipation is what’s keeping the interested going.

I have a feeling it won’t be long before we’re blessed by Maki and Yumeri’s sexy snuggles again.

Maina just doubled her fan base, she’s heading to Budoukan in no time 😀

  9. Giack31 says:

I find really cool the opposition of Maina not being able to clearly express her feelings but being very sure about them and Eripiyo being way more outspoken even though she doesn’t exactly know what she feels for her (yet)/ she’s afraid to accept her feelings.

I loved the moment when Maina discovers that Rena and Eripiyo aren’t “friends”. That beaming smile was so cute.

All these misunderstandings are reminding me of GAMERS! and I like it.

I’m ok with it being a slow burn as long as we actually see something by the end of the season.
Also the preview for next episodes looks REALLY promising.

  10. Teresa Jones says:

We know they love each other, so for now I ok with having to wait. She looks like she is realizing that her love for Maina is real that’s why she is so jealous of a new fan, that can be scary for her but also painful. Because not matter what she feels, she is still just a fan. That’s why I kind of respect her for walking away from the opportunity of talking with her. Is frustrating because most of the misunderstanding is caused because they don’t have time to talk. But Interacting with her is part of her job but on the train she was off duty. She is keeping her distance because she doesn’t want to make her uncomfortable. Which mean she is not going to make the first move out of respect. Maina would have to be the one to make it clear that is OK for her to aprox her outside of the job.
