Here we are again checking out how the other anime I’m watching but not covering weekly are progressing in my eyes. As expected my thoughts on some of them have changed.
Let’s start with the show that’s been consistent with what it set out to do. Null Peta. It’s still a bunch of 5.5 minute episodes about a super genius girl, her revived robo sister and their Dexter’s Laboratory style shenanigans. It’s good fun. There are dramatic moments here and there as we see Null being annoyed by Peta’s “motherly” care like any child would feel whenever their parental figure scolds or guides them. Of course no matter how annoyed Null gets she can’t deny how much she loves and misses her onee-chan. She treasures her resurrected form, sure, but naturally it can’t replace the happy times of when Peta was human.
The most recent surprise beach episode had a Non Non Biyori Vacation Movie feel to it. Readers who saw the movie will know what I’m referring to. Whether the trip was real or an elaborate simulation I’m not sure. We’ll find out sooner or later. It’s an interesting question but I’ll preferably wait and see what answers we get rather than burn out my head over it.
Next we have the show my thoughts on changed a lot. Looking back Episode 2 was nothing more than a small bump in the road as the ones that came after were all smooth trips. It’s still a Girls Club show about cute girls playing board games. The show’s appeal depends on two things:
1: Whether viewers are interested in learning about different kinds of board/card/tabletop games.
2: Whether they find the main trio (soon to be quartet) and side-characters fun.
If one or neither don’t appeal to you from the start then don’t bother.
Currently the two main plots revolve around Miki trying to overcome her social anxiety bit by bit and Midori’s goal to become a board game author. Both are fun to watch unfold. Aya’s role so far is to put smils on her friends’ faces. It may not sound like much but it’s very important.
Another potential couple are Aya’s older sister Hana and her “best friend (HEAVY QUOTATION MARKS HERE) Maki. She’ll return in Episode 7. Fingers crossed Hana won’t be far behind.
I mentioned in my Episode 1 coverage of Rifle is Beautiful/Chidori RSC that it would be difficult to talk about the show because there isn’t much to say. That’s why I’m not talking about it weekly. HAVING SAID THAT, RiB is one of my top 3 favorite Fall 2019 anime. Why? Because it reminded me of why I blog in the first place. Yes. My mission statement has always been to spread the love of yuri media to the interested (KEY WORD, interested)…However, the #1 reason I blog is because it makes me happy. Rifle is Beautiful makes me happy. The rifle shooting itself is not visually interesting. The show knows this as it was mentioned in an episode. Similar to Houkago Saikoro Club whether the viewer likes the show or not depends on how invested they are in the girls. If you don’t like these characters, move along. I LOVE THESE GIRLS, especially Hikari. She’s 2nd only to Rin from Kandagawa Jet Girls as one of my top 3 anime girls of Fall 2019. She fills my heart with great joy and her relationship with Izumi melts my heart every time I see them together. Damn it all they’re destined to wed! So yes, the sport is understandably not very interesting but the girls are so into it I can’t help but root for them. It’s like Anima Yell. Cheering is a far more interesting sport, yes, but if the girls weren’t interesting I wouldn’t be as invested. Get the picture?
Z/X: Code Reunion at its core is another “7/10 Battle Girls” anime based on a mobile game similar to past shows like Schoolgirl Strikers, Ange Vierge, Battle Girls High School, Circlet Princess etc. Whether the shows are subjectively great they are objectively 7/10 at best or “that Space Fishing show”/10 at worst. Having said that this is one of the better ones. Like other shows of its ilk the main plot is of little importance compared to seeing the girls working hard, being cool in battles and growing closer together. Best example is the main couple shown above, Azumi X Rigel. Azumi is still more open about her love for Rigel whereas the sexy blonde Z/X (pronounced zex) is still tsundere but opening up more as she realizes how important and precious Azumi is to her. She ain’t protecting her because it’s her job. That mindset went out window long ago. Should there come a time later on where she thinks like that again don’t expect it to last long.
In the latest episode (5) we got a 2nd couple in Matoi X Ena. It was Matoi’s turn to get a character episode. Matoi was super close to her older sister. However, during the Z/X war as they were running away from an attack her sister disappeared. A voice called out to her while she panicked and then fainted. Later when a concerned citizen tried to help Matoi she was still in a state of panic and…
…let’s just say it didn’t end well for the poor guy.
Ena being the potential strategist of the the “Rank E” team took the time to listen to Matoi, surprising the gloomy loli considering what happened in their previous team battle. Matoi activated her Super Mode but she did so in a panic. She was out of control and hurt Ena. Even so Ena assured they’d be okay in their next battle. As the pic of Matoi declaring Ena her (new onee-chan) girlfriend shows their battle went well.
By the way these were their opponents. Don’t know anything about the girls on the right as I don’t play the game but they’re obviously dating. Nuff said. Good stuff all around.
Fall 2019 is seen as a weak season by some but to me it is my 2nd favorite. I may not be watching as many shows this time around but the ones I am following haven been quite good to me. As usual these are all my opinions not meant to change readers’ minds. Just saying what I want to say.
Matoi x Ena was a lovely surprise, especially since I like those two so much! After Watashi no Nouryoku, I think Z/X is my second favourite show. Azur Lane comes third. A weak season perhaps, but not without its little gems.

Dice Girls: Midori could be a harem lead if she wanted to, but she only has eyes for Miki. Aya has a thing for her, and the student council girl was poorly hiding her feelings (Midori is a better option than the lazy potential love interest anyway).
Rifle is Beautiful: I thought Erika was going to steal Hikari’s heart at first, but it looks like Izumi won out.

It’s for the best Midori already has her eyes on one potential soul mate.
Yup. Too often do they tease the tsundere being the love interest. It’s good that we finally got a best friend victor.

Even without the chart their growing love was more than obvious.

No surprise there.

Seeing Null getting a dear “friend” is so heartwarming (not to mention that girl has a killer figure) but what gave a sinking feeling is the end of that episode where she and the beach goers just went static and fade out of existence, suggesting that whatever happiness Null experienced was just a simulation made by Peta.
I knew that something sketchy was going in Dice Club after Midori getting giddied up from Miki saying her name and the relationship between Aya’s sister and her “best friend”. Let’s pray that my intuition was correct.
Yuri Mother guides us all.

i agree with, “if u don’t like the characters, move along”. because RIB does not look appealing to me. i just stopped at episode one and check the other yuri out XD

Midori looks great without specs and in a bikini. The latest episode saw her try to release a game without testing it. Bethesda would approve.

She’s so sexy. Miki will be one lucky girl in the near future.
The main difference being Midori cares about her audience and listens to constructive criticism.

Rifle is Beautiful while I don’t have much to say, it’s still enjoyable. Sure, Erika is tsundere and I thought she will fall for Hikari. I guess the Hikari and Izumi pairing is stronger. Still, I like the advisor for the club although she doesn’t know much about rifling and the fact that she is an otaku with the boxes of manga, figurines and anime.
Null and Peta is a fun show, although Peta’s voice does remind me of a certain character. But yes, the fall season is kind of ehh, although there are some enjoyable shows. 2019 is kind of lackluster compared to last year. Then again, I can’t cover that much since I have been busy moving and preparing for my new job, which is still probably a few weeks to a little over a month before I start.
On the bright side, Winter 2020 is looking to be more exciting than this season with possibly 3 Kirara shows and Magia Record airing in January.

It was clear from the get-go that Izumi was Hikari’s soul mate. Nice seeing best friends winning once in a while.
Miss Yuuko is wonderful.
Null Peta is a fun shorts show, yes.
One thing SOME Fall detractors cannot deny is it’s better than Spring as far as anime catering to yuri and Girls Club fans go.

Yes, the spring season this year was really lackluster in comparison. I only really covered two shows that season, but I don’t think this will happen again except for the summer olympics next year maybe.

Ah yes. The Summer Olympics will undoubtedly dominate Japanese television next year.

Board Game Club and Rifle Club are both coming along well. Really enjoying both, especially Rifle Club as it’s just so chill and the girls are super cute. Board Game Club is going good too, still wondering when the blonde girl will actually join their group. She’s been teased for so long but they still haven’t all met just yet. Oh well, I’m sure it’ll happen soon enough.

Both shows heal my heart when I’m in a bad mood, especially RiC, which i why I treasure it so much.
I’m sure the Half-German girl will join the club at some point in the 3rd quarter like Kana from Anima Yell!

I think that the “beach” place was a social game that Peta convinced Null to try. Am doubtful Peta came up with that nickname, and even moreso doubtful that Null would come up with a nickname for herself. Could be just AI, of course. But if it’s AI that is that advanced, then I don’t see why Null couldn’t get an AI girlfriend. So she’s either really advanced AI, or a real person who joined in on the simulation. Either way, works out!
Dropped RiB. Tried to keep with it, but something about it is really lacking compared to other shows of the same ilk. Gives a very Eupho S1 feel in how it’s composed. Needs something…but I can’t say what.
Saikoro is a show that sometimes is good, sometimes is terrible, and sometimes is okay. Never “amazing”…except that one episode with Miki’s past at the center. Midori’s ep was close though.
Z/X though…..oh my gosh it’s fantastic~ The show is so 1000% my sort of show ❤ They’re all such great characters, and the show is doing such a nice job of pairing everyone up (even side characters), and there are lots of cute lolis, and characters of all types for everyone to enjoy, and the story is really interesting, and the character development and just…~~~

Matoi X Ena was a welcome surprise, yes. Z/X is one of the better “7/10 Battle Girls” shows.
Null Peta does its thing well enough. That’s all one can ask of it.
Board Game Club has been consistently good after that one dud. I am aware the chances of the lame-o returning are high but I’ve seen enough greatness from the show that his presence won’t affect my overall enjoyment again.

The ‘beach’ episode was the best of Null Peta thus far (one that would’ve deserved a 24 minutes long episode), I loved how our socially awkward protag finally conversed with someone other than her big sis. I do hope she wasn’t a hologram, and will return in future episodes.
I’m enjoying RiB, though it could use more subtext.
Board game was a bit shaky at ep.2, but ep.3 brought it back up with Hana and her (girl)friend. Midori has quite a lot off affinity towards Miki too, from what we’ve seen.
About Average Abilities… I’m not very keen on how they are trying to mix grimdark and lighthearted elements in the show. I’ll continue sticking with it though, Mavis (and lately, Reina) is best girl (for me).
The others, I’m yet to catch up on, but haven’t dropped any of ’em yet.

I hope you do one of these every 3 weeks because it seems Z/X Code Reunion is going to keep introducing and developing couples every episode.

I may do a 3rd quarter impressions post when most of the shows are at Episode 9.

Null Peta: I hope that this isn’t the last we see of that girl. Was she just a simulation though? I don’t think so, since she wasn’t glitching like the other NPCs.
RiB: You know, now that you mention it, if this were a harem show, the childhood friend would not win, usually losing out to the tsundere. So in that sense, Izumi really beat those odds, lol. That aside, this show may be lacking, but it’s alright.
Saikoro: This show has so good so far. Watching Miki and Midori overcoming their issues bit by bit is so enjoyable. The board games are quite interesting, too. Aya may not have heavy burdens like the other two but her mood-making is very important. After all, if she wasn’t in their lives, they probably wouldn’t be having a fun time.
About Code Reunion; I hadn’t picked it up because there was another show before this, that being Z/X: Code Ignition. Do you know it they’re connected or can I just watch Reunion?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Nope. Ignition and Reunion are different shows. They may be set in the same universe but there’s no relation.

I’m almost done with Saikoro club, but then everyone here has convinced me to put Z/X: Code Reunion on my catchup list after that. So many shows, so little time 😁
