Machikado Mazoku Episode 9: The Medium Test

Shamiko challenged Momo once again and later Mikan had an interesting invite for Shamiko.

Crisis Management Form Before and After.jpg

Crisis Management Form Before and After.

Peeps who saw the last preview remember Shamiko asking Lilith to modify her Crisis Management Form, which she did. Alas it was not enough. Lilith explained it was tradition for demons to battle in revealing clothes. This is true in most media as villains/denizens of the dark usually don more extravagant/revealing outfits than heroes/angels.

Anri doing her thing.jpg

Anri doing her thing.

The episode truly began with Shamiko asking Anri how she could get Momo to acknowledge her. She suggested working on her intelligence as physically she had A LONG WAY TO GO. Anri told Momo “Shamiko was lonely and sad yearning for your attention and love”. She wasn’t wrong. So she challenged her in the final exams. Momo was like “I’m pretty smart you know. Look”. After seeing her very impressive grades we got the best joke of the episode:

Shamiko's opinion of Momo's intelligence.jpg

This had me laughing for 5 minutes the first time.

After a subtle homage to Pop Team Epic Shamiko was determined to work her brain into submission. She would challenge her in the History exam. Lilith offered to “help” during the exam but Shamiko was like “Ancestor…That’s cheating”.

Shamiko did all she could by herself but lost to Momo. To both their surprise the teacher allowed Lilith to take the exams too making it to the top 3 of the school. A hilariously flabbergasted Momo was like “You looked up everyone’s notes, didn’t you!?” and Lilith was like “Dood. That never crossed my mind. Are you secretly dirty inside?”

2nd best joke of the episode.

Shamiko and Mikan at the movies.jpg

Shamiko and Mikan at the movies.

Not going into full detail on the 2nd half. Mikan invited Shamiko to the movies as an exercise in controlling her curse. It was all part of her training to be more useful to Momo. Shamiko was dragged there for moral support and some kind of training of her own.

Momo at the movies.jpg

Angry Momo is as hilarious as regular Momo.

I suppose I should comment on Mikan talking about Momo being more cheerful back in the old days but I was busy laughing at her being oh so subtly upset she wasn’t invited to hang out with her girlfriend and justice buddy.

Like I said I didn’t go over the 2nd half very much because it was straightforward and best enjoyed visually than written. It’s another great episode overall.

Next time a girl I informed viewers to pay close attention to early in the show will finally have her time to shine.

    Scary movie date.

Always bad, if you run into your girlfriend and see her with another girl.

“Ganbare, Momo! Mikan may get to hold Shamiko’s hand like couple in the cinema but if you try harder you will get Shamiko’s heart!”
That’s being said, this episode is good and fun to watch as always. Momo being upset of Shamiko and Mikan’s date without her was funny and cute.

As always, this show delivers ~
Mikan definitely thought momo was mad at her for hanging out with someone else, but little does she know that the real issue was Shamiko hanging out with someone else. Clarified by Momo being “I know all I do is make you train every day” It was a very obvious declaration meant towards Shamiko.

Personally i laughed more at her comment about “losing to Shamicen” XD But I didn’t recognize the reference. That show is too far gone out of my mind (I did enjoy it, just things don’t stick very well)

I don’t blame Momo for falling for Shamiko, she’s so many levels of adorable~

Maybe this incident will make Momo consider adding other kinds of activities to do together with Shamiko. Like romantic walks on the beach/riverside.

I did find it ironic that most of us expected Shamicen to fail in some way at the test, but it turns out we gave her much less credit that she actually deserves.

I thought Shamicen was going to either be bad at history, or better at history than actual historians until Shamiko passed away the ancestral thermos.

Do your best, zombie hordes! Defeat those evil superpowered heroes!

Anri will get her magically demonic couple even if she has to manipulate them into opening up to one another… Will Anri be the final boss, only defeated by getting her a cute girlfriend?

From what we saw, they could’ve just lean it on its side and carry it in. Mom might even have a future daughter-in-law who can do it all by herself.

There was a brief discussion in the reddit thread for this episode about whether it would be better for a Shamiko harem or just for the other characters to show up at Shamiko and Momo’s wedding in supporting roles (bridesmaids and such). Out of curiosity: what are your two-cents on that?

While I’m all for ShamiMomo, poor Mikan deserves to be in a happy relationship too. I wonder if Lily will get into this love-poligon in any way, shape or form.

I’m ok with the harem route. Shamiko will defeat any and all magical girls who come her way. If she can’t take their blood, she’ll steal their hearts.

I support Shamiko x Momo “2 brides” wedding with the other girls as bridesmaids. Anri can charm Mikan with her “assassin” acts…

I think my favorite part of the episode was Momo telling Shamiko that she never once looked down on her. It really shows how much she cares for her.

I also liked that Shamiko is so pure hearted that she couldn’t bring herself to cheat even if there was a guarantee she wouldn’t be caught.

The movie segment was great. Especially Shamiko sympathizing with the zombies in the movie. Not to mention Momo obviously being jealous of Shamiko hanging out with Mikan.

Next week it looks like we’ll learn more about the occult club girl. And it looks like one of the white haired girls from the ending theme will also show up. I’m kind of curious what her deal is.

Shamiko is too pure to cheat against Momo. Still, it’s surprising that she fell short (88) short of Momo’s 95. I find it funny how Momo is salty that Lilith got a higher score than her. Still, it makes me wonder if she cheated or have all that knowledge considering how old she is.

The second half seems more like a date. I won’t be surprised if Shamiko actually created a love triangle without realizing it. It seems that Momo got a bit jealous at Mikan.

Another absolutely wonderful episode! Anri knows whats up.

Shamiko loves and respects Momo to much to cheat!

And poor Mom not getting her dream fridge. Don’t give up Mom!

Lillith was fantastic as always! She’s definitely one of my favs of this series!

Can’t wait for occult girl’s shenanigans next episode!

Gotta say, I like the before version more. The thigh highs look cooler and I like a little more midriff shown off.

Great to see Anri once again helping Shamiko convey her feelings across to Momo. She’s a great friend.

Shamiko taking the test the honorable way and not cheating. She may be a demon, but she’s not a cheating demon.

I really liked the back half of the ep with Mikan and Shamiko at the theater. Mikan is so cute!!

Looks like Shion finally gets some time in the spotlight next ep. Should be good!

Get Mama her dream refrigerator! Angry Momo is so scary, she’s even monotone than the usual. The whole movie theater scene was so funny. I am really curious what really happened with Momo in the past. Shamiko refused to cheat, of course. She’s a noble devil. Young people can’t defeat the ancestor. Looking forward to seeing what Shion’s been doing.

      She deserves that fridge, yes.

Oh yes. As if Momo couldn’t be more monotone than she already was. “Shivers”.

      Shamiko is an honorable demon.

Lilith being as knowledgeable as she claimed was a nice surprise.

Should be a very interesting visit to Shion’s laboratory.

Shamiko rejecting Lilith’s proposal was good. She wanted to beat Momo fair and square as she always tried to. Honestly, it was good because I thought Lilith would be overselling her knowledge of the time period, which would lead to utter failure. Turns out she actually did know her stuff! I’m impressed. Momo’s reaction to losing to her was funny.

Seiko’s dream fridge was denied a loving home because the door was too small for it to go through. She should’ve dreamed smaller.

Hey Mikan, your training would’ve been quite fruitful if you didn’t scare yourself into a coma before the scary stuff began. Whatever, Shamiko enjoyed this surprisingly heart-warming movie. I’m sure Momo would’ve had a blast with you two,,,if you asked her…not that she’s mad or anything…

How very perceptive of you, Shamiko! You realized that the atmosphere was quite tense and decided to excuse yourself from Momo’s place…leaving poor Mikan to her fate.

Momo may seem like she’s toying with Shamiko but she hasn’t looked down on her one bit! I mean, if she never acknowledged Shamiko, she wouldn’t have gone through the effort of training her and helping her out with things, now would she?

Finally, we get to see what Shion’s been cooking up in the shadows!
