OG’s Fall 2019 Anime Picks

It’s that time again. Longtime readers know the drill. I announce most of my watchlist and add that it isn’t final as new shows can be added or removed during the season.

Picks based on these charts:

Kandagawa Jet Girls.jpg

Kandagawa Jet Girls. My #1 hype show. An anime project connected to an upcoming game that looks to be about jet ski racing with some combat. Main draw is the racers compete in pairs of two and so far I see no male trainer/coach so this will hopefully be what Two Car SHOULD HAVE BEEN! It’s by the Producer of the Senran Kagura series after all. Hopefully the game will come out on the Switch after the PS4 release.

Houkago Saikoro Club.jpg

Houkago Saikoro Club. Girl’s Club about playing board games and tabletop games. I’m sold.

Rifle is Beautiful.jpg

Rifle is Beautiful. The third anime about girls forming a competitive shooting club. This time the guns of choice are rifles.

Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life? Looks like a neat fantasy show. I heard mixed things about the Light Novels but those are the novels and this is the anime, meaning it may be a different experience despite sharing similar events.

Azur Lane TV: Not a lolicon so not hyped about the little boats. Give me more big boats like Honolulu and have the other confirmed big boats get plenty of screen time. On the bright side Enterprise looks to be the Commander instead of some off-screen self-insert person the West will inevitably turn male.

Fragtime. Not sure when the movie will get subbed after its late November 2019 premiere. The Kase-San movie got subbed not too long after the premiere so hopefully the same will happen for Fragtime.

ZX Code Reunion.jpg

Z/X: Code Reunion. Looks like a neat action show starring a group of girls. Whether it’ll stand out or be similar to the likes of Battle Girls High School or Schoolgirl Strikers remains to be seen.

Null Peta

Null Peta. Show about a genius elementary school girl who revives her sister in a cute Baymax like robot body after she passed away. Shenanigans most likely will ensue. Interested.

  • Star Twinkle PreCure
  • Aikatsu Friends! 2

The only het show I’m interested in this season is Chihayafuru 3.

    Abilities Average reader here.
I am excited for the anime, though with how they’re marketing it I wonder if the beginning is going to be changed…which would be a shame, because that’s probably still my favorite part of the series to this point.
Anyway, it’s a pretty lighthearted isekai with a comically overpowered protagonist. It’s pretty much just subtext as far as yuri goes, and not very strong subtext either. Arranged marriages are occasionally mentioned, but that really is as bad as it gets. I’m 6 volumes in and it’s basically just a bunch of adventuring.

Great list! More or less the same as the one I’ve picked for myself. I’ll also keep an eye on Black Fox and Honzuko no gekokujou. They seem to have some potential.

Hadn’t heard of Saikoro Club before reading this, but it looks to be right up the middle of the middle of my alley.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with Fragtime as well, recently finished the manga of that one.

  5. Nick says:

Hyped for Jet Girls actually, this totally falling into that category of sports shows we haven’t seen done yet. I too hope this doesn’t pull a Two Car on us. PV didn’t seem to hint at any male teacher or trainer, so that’s a good sign so far. I can feel the lesbian energy radiating from this show already, October can’t come soon enough!

Board game playing girls looks cute and chill, two things I always enjoy so this is on my list for sure.

Rifle Is Beautiful sounds like it’ll fill my need for cute girls with guns. Haven’t had too much of that lately, so this is a welcomed show. Inb4 this show gets flack from ANN for bringing guns to school, thus promoting shootings. Totally could see them pushing that agenda.

Isekai show, pass. I’ve expressed my feelings enough about that genre.

Azure Lane, yesssssssss. After sharing art of these sexy boats for ages, it’s finally time to see them animated! Same for me, my interest isn’t in the little boats or subs, rather the big boats and the big guns. That’s where it’s at! Fingers crossed for Honolulu to be in the show. There haven’t been enough cute red haired girls in anime lately, I think Uruka is the last redhead that comes to mind honestly. Honolulu is very much needed. She checks all the boxes for me.

Fragtime looks so cute, sweet, and gay. I’m kinda disappointed that it’s not going to be a show, but at the same time I’ve heard it would probably only work as a short since there isn’t a ton of content to work with, so at the end of the day I guess it’s alright that it’s just a long OVA. For real disappointed that there will be the wait for subs though. Hopefully someone gets on it soon when it’s released.

Z/X doesn’t really catch my interest, seen a few shows like that before and it can be hit or miss for me. I will keep an eye on it though, seems like something Other Joe will cover.

Null Peta I might look into. Sounds like feels honestly, especially the Baymax vibes. Big Hero Feels. I still get all emotional thinking about that movie.

Other shows on my list for next season include:
    Bokuben S2
    Psycho-Pass S3
    Shokugeki S4
    SAO Alicization Part 2

Looks like a good season overall though. I too might pick up or drop shows along the way. I’m still thinking over what I want to review but for now Azure Lane looks like a strong contender.

Fingers crossed they don’t pull fast one. We need something to wash the bad Two Car aftertaste.

      More big boats!

Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for subs.

Keep an eye out for my thoughts on the shows you aren’t sure about. You never know.

Do enjoy your other picks good sir.

Azure Lane manga – I don´t know which one – has shoujo ai main tag, so this will be nice.

Girls and jet skis are always good and Fragtime OVA is a must-see.

Anime with another season I want to watch in fall season are High Score Girl 2, Owari no Seraph 3 – IF September release with 10 eps is true – Hajimete no Gal 2 – which has a little bit shoujo ai in S1, but no exact release date yet – and – if the yuri god is with us –

THE anime yuri series main event movie of the year 6 months after cinema release on 19th April – Sound Euphonium Grande Finale with K x R grande finale.

Nothing seemed to particularly catch my eye yet… Which is good since I would be happy only following one or two shows this autumn. The summer has had so much eye candy that it’s disruptive ^^

  8. Mauron says:

Two Boat: Looks good from the preview, but the strong Two Car vibes are making me wary. There’s some obvious yuri vibes in the preview from some of the other teams, but the only parts of Two Car worth watching were about other teams. Definitely trying it though.

German Board Games: The Animation: The concept interests me without the girls. Hoping it has a practical side, so I can get some suggestions.

It’s a Wonderful Rifle: Every time a gunshot rings, an anime girl gets a girlfriend. It’s more on the chairleaders level of excitement for me based on the premise, but it could be great.

Can We Try That Again, But with Mode?: A friend of mine tried this series, and said “there might be yuri.” He’s also a little love-blind, so this could mean anything less explicit than a confession scene. Also I’m a fan of one of the voice actresses in the show, having voiced two best parts of the show (Robo Announcer, Two Car and Hideri, Blend S) and two number 1 idols in the universe (Asuka, Crane Game Girls and Nico, Love Live!)

Rising of the Book Hero: This speaks to the nerd in me, so I’ll check it out (Ascendance of a Bookworm).

Yuri Romance Online: I wondering how the anime release will be compared to the US novel release. Hoping the novels are out first, and that I find a way to ship Sinon and Leafa (with each other or someone else). Overall I’m doing a pretty good job with shipping characters in this series. (Sword Art Online)

Fragtime keeps slipping my mind every time I blink. Sounds excellent though.

Whichever shows you choose to stick with do enjoy.

Kirito rules that world no matter how hard you try to deny it.

      • Mauron says:

It doesn’t take much effort. Most of the characters are thinking “I most definitely have a thing for A” while also thinking “B is strong, beautiful, caring, and every time I see her I want to hug her for hours on end.”

It is a shame about Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2. Was looking forward to that the most this year.

  10. Yuri and Me says:

Though I agree with you on most anime, I’ll do ‘wait and see’ to Houkago Saikoro Club, after seeing a lot of male characters in trailer. I don’t want to see another KumiRei if you know what I mean. Azur Lane is the most hyped Fall anime for me since I played the game. Fragtime is a must watch for me.

Yeah, I saw the ANN article with the blonde dude in it and went to check the manga a bit, and some red flags have popped up.
      What can you do…
Hoping against hope here, as I have been interested in the show since it was announced, makes it harder to just leave at this point.

I’ll just warn to anyone who is planing to watch Houkago Saikoro Club. Don’t expect too much if you are expecting yuri relationship. I found that later dudes joining Houkago Saikoro Club in MAL discussion.
If anything else, I’m more excited for 2020 anime lists. Tamayomi, Koisuru Asteroid, Magia Record, Yuru Camp 2nd Season, BanG Dream! 3rd Season, Non Non Biyori 3rd Season, GochiUsa 3rd Season….

    Fall is almost here 😀

I’m hyped for Kandagawa Jet Girls too 😀 Next to that is Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life? 😛
Houkago Saikoro Club and Rifle is Beautiful are both fun and chill shows for me. I look forward to all of these as well as the other shows that mentioned. Even though I don’t know any of them I’m still excited for them. 😀

Azur Lane TV: is it the u.s. Version of KanColle or is it something else entirely?

    • Yuri and Me says:

the game is Chinese version of KanColle game though MCs are the USN Enterprise and the starter destroyers (4 ships from US, UK, Japan and Germany) in WW2. The main and events in game are loosely based on WW2 Navy battles. EN version and JP version are voiced by Japanese actress and Anime is produced by Japan Studio. By the way, Japan and Germany are somewhat Antagonist in the game.

While there is no Kirara adaptation this season, I think the line up is decent. Only covering Kandagawa Jet Girls, Watashi, Nouryoku wa Heikinchi de tte Itta you ne!, and Azur Lane since I will probably begin working in a few months. At least it’s better than Spring.

Kandagawa Jet Girls´ uncensored episode – without black bars and Misa x Rin in all her glory – was there one day after censored.

I cancelled Afterschool Dice Club, because of a certain reason.

Fall 2019 is a good anime’s but I wish season 2 for all them
