Making a Top Yuri Anime List is very hard for me. Too many factors going into it and so many shows coming out with the potential of becoming a new favorite. HOWEVER, it dawned on me. There IS a favorite yuri themed list I can make: A favorite couples list, especially after learning about the Heisei Era (January 8th, 1989 to April 30th, 2019). This means I have a set limit as to how far ahead I can go with my picks. In this case the end of the Winter 2019 anime season. Before we begin, some ground rules. Read them carefully before proceeding:
- This list is for couples from anime and OVAs/movies. No manga, video games or Western media. Those are reserved for other potential lists.
- These couples are based on how they made me feel in the kokoro. It has little to do with “Best of the best”. They had the strongest emotional impact on me essentially.
- Soft Yuri couples will also make the list.
- Aside from the Top Tier and Elite 3 there is no definitive ranking for the other couples.
- The couples I picked are ones in which both (or all 3 in one case) ladies played their part. To me none of these felt like the love/effort was one-sided.
- Some pics are NSFW.
- These are all based on shows I have seen. Some mega popular couples are from shows I probably have not seen though the number of ones with yuri that I have not seen or finished is small.
- There will be SPOILERS.
- These are MY picks/opinions.
Alright then. Here we go, starting with a kinda complicated one.
Kumiko X Asuka from Hibike! Euphonium
While the majority were understandably losing their minds over KumiRei (I too was blown away by Reina’s seductive wiles admittedly) in my heart I knew there was only one girl destined to steal Kumiko’s heart. Season 2 proved I was right. The tale of the two euphonium players had me glued to the monitor every time S2 focused on them as Kumiko’s curiosity turned obsession to better understand the sexy enigma that is Asuka along with Asuka’s constant playful seduction before things got super serious. Their story had a “Bye for now” season finale and deep inside I hope the upcoming movie will, in some shape or form, continue their story. Even if it is a small nod near the end of it. SOMETHING to tell me there is hope they will meet again…but I know that is expecting way too much. I have a feeling the writers went into the big movie like “We already gave yuri fans the awesomeness that was Liz to Aoi Tori so let’s do out thing in the next movie”. We will see what happens.
By the way. People who somehow already saw Oath’s Finale RAW, “mum’s the word”. Based on the end result I may either keep these two on the list or remove them.
Rikka X Akane from SSSS.Gridman
My love for this couple is different from every other here in that I initially became enamored with them thanks to the BOATLOAD of fanart and scans of the two individually and of course together. This ultimately convinced me to give the show a go and it was a wise decision on my part. The build to their relationship is in bits and pieces. I cannot explain it in a short manner so to get a better idea of why I liked them in the anime check out my Yuri Quickie HERE. Plus some of the Anthology manga that came afterward is pretty nice.
Morinas X Wapourif from Simoun
I bet fellow Simoun fans are like “But OG. Wapourif chose to become a guy in the Spring ‘maturity’ ritual thingy”. This is true. HOWEVER, the loophole is that her transformation was not complete till the end of the series, meaning she had a female body up to that point. Plus she was the sexiest woman (ironic, I know) on the show. Anyway on to their relationship. Morinas was a flirt who started off, like many, wanting to pair up with Neviril. When that failed her favorite became Wapourif due to her own interest in machines and Wapourif being the lead mechanic. To simplify things their main struggle partially had to do with Wapourif’s strong religious beliefs. Basically “How dare a lowly mechanic like me yearn to be with a holy priestess?”. Obviously the two worked things out and had two cutie babies in the end.
Hazumu X Tomari from Kashimashi
One of the classic yuri anime couples whose romance made me cry. I’m pretty sure if the OVA had not come out I would have been like #TomariWasRobbed…but there was also that final moment in the end where Yasuna wanted to tell Hazumu something. We found out what she said in the OVA and were blessed with that magical True End. Anyhoo the hashtag was never warranted because that one line before the OVA was a giveaway. Do not get me started on the insanity Hazumu and Tomari went through in the manga before they lived happily ever after. At least I think I remember it being insane.
And of course: Hazumu was a female from the beginning. PERIOD.
Saki X Nodoka from the Saki franchise.
Tweets and articles talking about this major bombshell announcement dropped by Ritz Kobayashi was circling the internet during the 2nd week of May 2019. What better way to celebrate this then by sharing another of my favorite couples. The President and Vice-President of “Blush City” themselves, Saki and Nodoka. Fans of the franchise know exactly why I dubbed them as such. It is amazing no volcanoes erupted due to the mass amounts of blushing between the two.
Mio X Minna from Strike Witches
While Minna is the one whose love runs deeper than Mio it is not like the latter does not respond in kind either. Pretty much a sexy relationship between superiors. I am more than certain the super couple of Strike Witches are Eila X Sanya but in this case I gotta go with the slightly older and sexier duo.
Wakaba X Himawari from Vividred Operation
A badass warrior and an intelligent but out of shape introvert with an incredible body. Admittedly Wakaba also has quite the figure herself. Anyway Wakaba likes cute girls such as Akane’s imouto but when she met Himawari something eventually clicked between the two. Wakaba became Himawari’s guardian and lifelong companion. I could have gone with the Akane X Aoi X Rei OT3 but these two were lovelier together. Speaking of OT3s…
Madoka X Lan X Muginami from Rinne no Lagrange.
The trio who convinced me that it is possible for three girls to enter a romantic relationship and share each other. Of course Lan and Muginami fought for Madoka’s affection at first but the super sexy brunette managed to get her alien lovers on the same page (twice) and save the galaxy (twice). For various reasons their relationship is long distance (Royal duties and the like) but they always ensure to make time for snuggling.
Malga X Margot from Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.
The world of KSnH is enjoyable to watch but everything that is happening around the characters is incredibly confusing beyond the surface, requiring Wikis and encyclopedias to understand it all unless you paid very close to every single thing. Most of the cast are pretty cool though, especially my next favorite couple. Malga and Margot are a couple of techno witches with BOOM STICKS and a kickass special ability. When not fighting they are an ordinary couple. They have cute conversations, are always close to each other holding hands and they always prioritize each other over everything else. Even when they had an argument in season 2 it was because Malga wanted to become stronger for Margot’s sake, which ended up being a mistake because, like the Ice Climbers in the Smash Bros series, they are stronger together than individually. Of course Malga returned, beaten up, and made up with her beloved.
Raika X Kirin from Hidan no Aria AA
This should be a simple one. Kirin fell for Raika. Raika secretly likes cute things. Kirin (with help from Akari) discovered this and blackmailed her into having a battle. Raika was the superior fighter but let Kirin win. From then it’s Kirin flirting and trying to seduce Raika and Raika being super embarrassed but enjoying it deep down.
Rin X Ko from New Game!
Similar to Mio X Minna Rin’s love for Ko goes deeper but Ko shows signs of reciprocation. It is one of those “give it time” relationships. Perhaps in a third season when Ko returns from her studies/work in France. It was tough choosing between these two and Nene X Umiko but in the Rin X Ko won.
Lion X Nina from Hina Logi: From Luck & Logic
Classic genki x ice princess relationship where Lion (Lee-ohn)’s cheerful optimism slowly melted Nina’s cold and serious icy wall. Plus there was that big surprise near the end of the show that took their love to the next level.
Hazuki X Shizuka from Mäerchen Mäedchen (or however it’s supposed to be spelled).
This one shares some similarities to Lion X Nina. It is mainly the relationship between a socially awkward cutie and the crush she comes to admire, who in turn experiences great change herself thanks to the once timid cutie. Even they became life partners is somewhat similar to Lion X Nina. Viewers know what is up with both couples. No mystery whatsoever. Oh and seeing Shizuka’s face it is no wonder Hazuki fell for her. So cute.
Eiko X Kiyose from Slow Start
Eiko. The sexy girl who, whether she is aware of it or not (probably is), is a chick magnet, easily able to woo girls with little effort…except one. Enter Miss Kiyose. A sexy sloth who more often than not would rather not be at school but is like “Fine. Let’s get this over with”. She is the one female Eiko cannot conquer as easily, thus her repeated attempts to woo the lazy beauty…who has her own bag of tricks. It is a battle of who can conquer the other and it is GLORIOUS! Hana X Tomato (Tama) is also an excellent choice.
Yume X Yuuki from Kanamemo
Yume and Yuuki are the happiest when they are together. They are the most important person to one another. So much so that they become incredibly miserable when separated. Whichever of the two is the scariest when apart from her girlfriend is up to viewers to decide.
Hibiki X Narumi from Re-Kan.
An adorable kindhearted beauty who can communicate with ghosts and her mega tsundere girlfriend (We are talking Arisa from BanG Dream levels) who hates ghosts but pretends in vain not to believe in them. Oh and the entire cast recognize them as a couple.
Nanako X Yukari from Locodol
Update: Thanks to my friend Nick (aka @Skycorps) I forgot a very important. I forgot to include an idol couple. Over the years during the Heisei Era there were plenty of great yuri ships and couples in series like Love Live, Idolm@ster, BanG Dream etc. But in my heart the best idol couple I had seen are Nanako X Yukari. It started off with Nana-chan admiring Yukari but as their relationship grew stronger she slowly began sharing Yukari’s feelings, which brings me to Yukari. Oh yes. She is madly in love with Nana-chan.
And now for my Top Tier Couples
Maya X Claudine from Revue Starlight
The sexiest couple in their respective series, be it the anime or mobile game. On the surface they are rivals who strive to outdo each other but as the story progresses it becomes clear that deep down want to be together forever. The duo of the French tsundere and the Japanese prodigy with amusing weaknesses make for an incredibly charismatic team and couple.
Chikane X Himeko from Kannazuki no Miko
While I did say Hazumu X Tomari made me cry what I did not say was ChiMeko made me cry first. There were some cool (Souma and Otoha) and lame side-characters but to me ChiMeko was what I cared about most. Two girls cursed to do the unthinkable every time they are reincarnated so that the world is kept safe. Chikane the tachi and Himeko the neko. We all know about the controversial scene and I still somewhat defend Chikane’s decision. She was in a tight spot and after all that had happened up to that point I can understand why she went to such lengths to protect Himeko. Make the one I love loathe me to save her life. It is best seen than explained. Of course I do not expect everyone to agree with what she did (Absolutely not. Both sides made valid points.), I am simply saying I get where she was coming from. Could she have found another way? Sure, but desperate times and all that. I do not condone it, just understand it. Oh and the last episode broke me.
Yuu X Touko from Bloom Into You
This couple fascinate me. I support their relationship but on the other hand do not know whether they will come out victorious or not. We have an asexual girl whose main source of understanding love for the longest time came from shoujo manga and the like. It is through her new relationship that she is slowly trying to understand what love is but holding herself back for one major reason. Then we have the other girl who is kind and loving on the outside but has a DEEEEEEEP case of self-loathing on the inside to the point of fearing love from the other. It is all so fascinating to me. Others are free to add the fantastic adult side-couple to their own lists. They too are a great choice.
Tohru X Miss Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid.
The tale of an eternally grateful dragon who wanted to repay the human who saved her life, albeit drunk, by becoming her live-in maid. Tohru being a dragon girl had incredible power and could easily crush everyone in sight but preferred to try and understand humanity so she could live in peace with the woman she loved. It of course was hard at times but thanks to Miss Kobayashi slowly growing to accept her back (romantically she had a ways to go) and the two raising the adorable bundle of mighty puff known as Kanna they became a happy family. How long this relationship will last and whether Miss Kobayashi would come to fully love Tohru back romantically remains to be seen. I have high hopes it can and will happen.
Again no manga spoilers.
Hibiki X Miku from Symphogear
Hibiki who slowly became a badass superheroine with one of the best booties in anime and her wife to be Miku, aka the best wife ever. There is a good reason why Hibiki calls Miku her “Sunshine”. Despite (usually) not being to help her in combat Miku will always be there to support Hibiki in every way humanly possible. Miku is Hibiki’s “heart and soul” so to speak. Without her Bikkie could have been a lost cause. Even after saving the world on multiple occasions Miku STILL knows what to say every time Bikkie feels down, becoming less and less of a bystander to the point everyone acknowledges her as Bikkie’s partner in life and the battlefield. Hopefully the day will come when Miku no longer has to wait on the sidelines for her beloved to return to their bedroom. On Bikkie’s end she too saved Miku from the darkness on a few occasions. They were made for each other.
In short, Miku is Hibiki’s Lois Lane as Bikkie is her Supergirl. Oh and the mobile game is set in an alternate universe.
Yuna X Togo from Yuki Yuna wa Yuusha de Aru.
The similarities HibiMiku and YunaTogo share with one another is Togo and Hibiki see their respective beloveds as their “heart and soul” and they both saved each other from the darkness on separate occasions. The main difference, besides the obvious ones, is both having super powers and getting to fight together on the battlefield from the start.
Haruka X Kanata from Harukana Receive
In a show where any of the teams are great choices I have to go with the main team being my favorite. Reason why is simple. Their attraction to each other is natural. One of the most memorable scenes is Haruka surprising Kanata with a gift, uniforms sewn with special garb. When the twins explained to her that particular cloth was used to sew something for a person you love Haruka was like “Huh. Well yeah! I love Kanata so it’s cool”. Oh and this is not the first Japanese series to feature gay cousins.
Haruka X Yuu from Sakura Trick
Harupopo X Yuu is a “Friends with benefits” kind of relationship that SLOOOOOWLY became more. It is difficult to explain without coming off as controversial. That or the anime did it in a way that rubbed some fans the wrong way. Like “Seriously? After all the intimacy you can’t say I love you to each other openly!?”. I did not mind it much because it was an obvious excuse for a manga lure (and I thought it made A LITTLE SENSE) but I get why others were eternally annoyed by it. That and the show aired at the right time when on screen kissing between girls/women was a rarity, much less followed up on or simply part of het harems, making them not have as much meaning, such as Kampfer (Still a hot kiss despite the fact). But yes, love these two. Shizuku X Kotone are also an excellent choice.
Pretty sure they eventually tied the knot in the manga.
Emiru X Ruru from Hugtto! PreCure and Mirai X Riko from Mahou Tsukai PreCure.
Could not decide which Pretty Cure couple I loved most. Technically it was EmiRuru but MiraRiko are just as amazing so I copped out and featured both. The first two being a human girl and android. Thanks Emiru and friends Ruru learns to become more human and in part Emiru learns to become stronger. Together though the two learn about love and their dream is to share their love for each other to help make the world a happier place. The other two aspiring magicians, both couples having wonderful stories to tell with an adorable developing romance. Oh and they raised two daughters in Mofurun and Haa. While EmiRuru’s conclusion was controversial compared to MiraRiko’s both created unforgettable memories in my heart.
Before someone asks “What about Cure Heart (Doki Doki PreCure)and her harem?” This lists focuses on couples of two (With Madoka’s OT3 being the only exception). I could try to make a Heisei Era yuri harem list in the future. Dunno how many would like to see that though.
Papika X Cocona from Flip Flappers
I would need an essay to explain why these two are legendary. Let me see. It is a story of a girl who discovered her gayness thanks to her growing attraction to a lovable idiot/genki. There are references to Western media, dimension hopping (including Class S Hell), self-discovery, a sexual orientation journey, a tree, armored wedding gowns, crazy third wheels, Ku Klux Klan stand-ins…You know what? Just watch Flip Flappers. It is a hot mess of random, crazy, creative and thought provoking awesomeness with a wonderful dose of gayness.
We now come to my Elite 3 couples of the era.
Kase-san X Yamada from the Kase-san movie.
Hopefully one day there will be plans for a 12-13 episode series, be it a retelling of the first manga or the sequel. Put simply Yamada and Kase-san’s is one of two girls who loved each other coming together, eventually confessing their feelings and their ongoing relationship through high school, college and beyond. The main drama between the two is Yamada accepting the fact she IS worthy of dating someone as incredible as Kase-san whereas Kase-san is constantly trying to find ways to express herself to Yamada. It is a simple and absolutely beautiful tale that deserves more of it getting animated.
Anne X Grea from Manaria/Mysteria Friends.
Another story of young love with no strings attached where an energetic, adventurous and outspoken princess flirts with her well endowed and timid red haired beloved dragonborn princess. While the setting is a magic academy most of it is spent seeing this beautiful couple’s feelings for each other grow stronger day by day, though viewers got glimpses of their awesome powers, Anne’s summoning magic and Grea’s draconian strength. I am guessing Grea being only half-dragon means Tohru would have the advantage should the two gay dragon babes engage in combat. In any case I do hope we get more of their story. One season was not enough.
Finé X Izetta from Izetta: The Last Witch.
Similar chemistry to the above couple except Finé is the sole princess and Izetta the one with magical powers. The story is set during a fictional Great War inspired by World War 2. I cared little about the inaccuracies and politics. By that I mean the flaws the show had in its main plot did not bother me very much. My top priority was seeing two badass lesbians leading a united front against an evil empire while making sure to snuggle as much as possible during the little free time they had. I wonder what Izetta could do to…you know, “please” Finé after the epilogue? Hehe.
And there you have it. The anime couples that touched me the most in this time period. Again these are my picks so readers sad some of their favorites did not make it, well share them down below. All I ask is for everyone to behave themselves.
The Yuri Empire 
Saki X Nodoka is official a yuri couple since the end of S1, because Mangarock has shoujo ai as sub tag, but kissmanga hasn´t. The Toki spinoff – which also needs an anime – has the shoujo ai tag on kissmanga, but not on mangarock.
Nina X Lion was and is one of the most surprising yuri couples of the last years.
Hibiki X Miku stand also for Shirabe X Kirika and – hopefully in S5 – Maria X Tsubasa.
Good to see, that Yuzu X Mei aren´t in it, because of some obvious reasons.
Liz and the Blue Bird was the appetizer and I am sure that we all know, who will come out on top at the end of the big one. The movie has a drama tag, BUT no romance tag, so conflicts and emotions will be there, but we all know, which words Nozomi X Mizore used near the end, so we surely will see and hear these words from the other two as well.
It is not a question, if it will happen between these two, because it surely will.
It is only about the when, where and how in the movie.
My predictions – and I am often right with those. 🙂
When? 15-10 minutes near the end, maybe.
Where? At the hill, when the fireworks starts – with handholding or even a kiss – or at the school yard, when everyone else is watching from above with open windows.
How? After reading White Lily, it should go the same way like there.

My Elite 3 couples of the era would probably have to be Emiru & Ruru, Hibiki & Miku and Kase & Yamada. But then that leaves out Papika & Cocona, so I’ll guess I’ll make it an Elite 4.
From Strike Witches, Eila X Sanya may be a super couple, but I like Yoshika X Lynette more.
New Game!’s Rin X Ko are an excellent couple.
Hina Logi: From Luck & Logic gave us an excellent surprise with the development of the relationship between Lion and Nina.
Hazuki and Shizuka’s journey took a little longer than most to reach its conclusion, but the pair make for a wonderful couple.
I prefer Eiko X Kamuri when it comes to Slow Start.
Yuu X Touko are indeed a fascinating couple.
Kanna X Saikawa is also another stand out couple from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid.
Yuna x Togo are yet another excellent couple.
Choosing just one couple from Harukana Receive is a difficult task, but I guess I will also go with Haruka X Kanata.
Another gay Haruka, she and Yuu make for a great couple.
I’ve already mentioned EmiRuru, so I’ll take this opportunity to mention Mirai X Riko. What’s not to love about two lesbian witches and the family they raise?
On the subject of PreCure, Nagisa X Honoka (Cure Black X Cure White) definitely deserve mention, particularly with their interactions in Hugtto! PreCure Futari wa PreCure: All Stars Memories.
Anne X Grea and Finé X Izetta are also mighty fine couples.
All right, now for a few that you haven’t mentioned.
Nanoha X Fate, first and foremost. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha would also give us the likes of Teana X Subaru, as well as Vivio X Einhart later on, but it all started with Nanoha meeting Fate. Vivid Strike! also gave us Fuka X Rinne.
I’d also say that Haruka Tenoh X Michiru Kaioh, otherwise known as Sailor Uranus X Sailor Neptune, are very worthy of being mentioned when it comes to the Heisei era’s yuri couples.
Alice X Shino from Kiniro Mosaic gives us an excellent pairing between an English girl and a Japanese girl.
Ange X Princess is another really strong couple brought to use by Studio 3Hz, the same people behind Flip Flappers.
The best thing to come from Dragon Ball Super was its first canon female Super Saiyans, Caulifla X Kale. Female Super Saiyans appearing for the first time was great, but even better was the relationship the two shared.
Another shonen anime with a cute yuri couple is Fairy Tail. Wendy Marvell X Shelia Blendy share very similar magical powers, and forged a strong bond from their initial meeting.
Another couple of OT3s I feel worth mentioning are Yuzuko X Yui X Yukari from Yuyushiki, and Tsugumi X Meme X Anya from Soul Eater Not!.
Aikatsu Friends! gave us four excellent couples in the form of Aine X Mio (Pure Palette), Ema X Maika (Honey Cat), Mirai X Karen (Love Me Tear), and Sakuya X Kaguya (Reflect Moon). It’s tough picking out a favourite, though Pure Palette just edge it due to what they went through during the first season of Aikatsu Friends!.

There are too many for me to choose really XD
I would prefer to add a ManaxRegina to the list though. Wouldn’t be very hard, as you have couples in that list from shows I’ve never seen!
One couple that I would put on here for sure would be Aroma and Mikan. One of the few couples in the show that actually never once went through an NTR phase through all four seasons. Those two never wanted to be with anyone else. They had zero problem spending time with other friends, but no one got between them.
And from Stars I would have to include AkoKirara. They were the result of NTR, but this was the one “NTRkatsu” that felt more like Ako was just a teenaged girl that didn’t know what she wanted, and Kirara just ended up being the one that “won” her, so to speak. Ako was very fortunate for this, as she lost so many times, sometimes even for doing the right thing, but she came out on top with the best girlfriend. It was quite the journey~
If I were to include Friends, I’d probably go with Ema and Maika so far. Should be interesting to see where that endorsement lies by the end of the series!
I’d probably also go with Coubecca from Dog Days. Those two were just the adorablest together~ And I could totally see them working out once Shinku/Cinque/WHATEVERYOUCALLHIM chooses Milhi over everyone. I see lots of ships coming to fruition really. Also, that show kinda sorta hinted that Couvert was descended from two moms. Not born from two moms, but in her ancestry, there was veeeeeeery likely a point that two moms produced one of her ancestors. And If so, I could see them being able to be together if that method were to somehow drop in Couvert’s lap by one of her ancestors 😉
And I could go on and on and still would’t be able to narrow it down to even 20 XD
I would have a different top 3, but I can’t choose. TOO MANY. I dunno how you even managed that list….

Speaking of Hazuki x Shizuka, it was nice to recently get the last few episodes of the series in their remade form, so we could see the end of their story as well.
Every time people remember how gay and wonderful Hibiki x Narumi from Re-kan are, I get a little happier.
Also Hazumu x Tomari. Such a wonderful true ending.
Chikane & Himeko indeed are a painful, yet amazing couple to think about…thankfully things didn’t end up as badly as it seemed like it might, again, for the two of them…
One other slightly similar one to the two would be Yomi x Kagura from Ga-Rei: Zero, but that’s almost more of a personal ship, in some ways. Must still get more people I know to watch said series, though.
Also, I’ve been out of the loop a little bit recently, so just now learning the news about Saki! Go author! Yurification of the entire world (of Saki)!

I agree with your top tier list. Except, Grea x Anne is my #1 and Finé X Izetta is my #2. It’s just because I have a soft spot for Grea. I’ve seen all of the anime above. Simoun, Kashimashi, Kanamemo, and Kannazuki no Miko are in my Pre-Yuri era. Learned so much about Yuri from them. Thanks for reminding me of Malga x Margot the best thing that happened in Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. Although it was a fun show.
Now about Chikane x Himeko, I’m glad someone sees the way I see it. Like you said, I do not agree with her action, in fact, I was mad, but I do understand why she did that. The situation has been so rough on her. The show broke me hard. It was the first anime I’ve watched with a tragic story, I depressed for 3 days. I didn’t watch sad anime since then for a while, I was afraid of hurting. And I don’t care if people don’t see it but for me, Chikane x Himeko is a legend, we should respect them.

This was a really good list. My personal favorite is the Kumiko x Asuka. Hopefully the next movie focuses on them.

Extraño sus reviews, esta temporada solo sigo Cinderella nine, esperando que Tsubasa y Tomochi se casen y las feromonas de Ukita hagan caer a Shinonome.

Eso es porque la primavera 2019 no hubieron muchos shows que valieron cubrir semanal. Ademas quise tomar una pausa para recuperar mu energia. El verano habra muchos mas shows de hablar sobre, o mejor dicho eso espero.

As expected of OG-man! This was a nice list. I totally agree with most of them. How come I didn’t known about that thing Ritz has said though. That made my mind explode. So much greatness I havr been waiting since finishing the first season of Saki. However, they mentioned 20% of the cast are bi but the only one who came to my mind is Yuuki.
As for the others, they made me want to start these shows as well. I really need to watch DokiDoki PreCure.
It can pretty sum up what I thought of that Era as well. I so wish we’ll get more good yuri (and yaoi that makes sense, not just delire-giveaway for fujoshi) in this next Era.

Two things I did want to mention though, first I’m actually very surprised to see no mention at all of any Love Live couples. Just wanted to know if that was on purpose or maybe you just didn’t have room for them all? Secondly, I was starting to get worried about halfway through because I wasn’t seeing Finé X Izetta at all, but I should’ve known better that they’d be in the Elite 3. I may have some personal gripes about the ending of the anime, purely from a story telling viewpoint, but they really do deserve all the credit for being a truly special couple.
Excellent list overall, it really brings into perspective all the amazing couples we’ve seen over the years. Looking forward to what the future will being now!

Chika X Riko would have been my Love Live rep. Unfortunately the writers botched it in favor of pandering to as many shippers as possible. I’m sure you’ll ask “What about NozoEli and KanaMari?”. Speaking of idols you helped remind me of one particular couple I was enamored with but had foolishly forgotten. Nanako X Yukari from Locodol. Will add them soon enough.

So many shows I need to/might watch, but I’m sure I’ll love these couples from them when I do. I REALLY need to watch Simoun, Saki, Kase-san, Lagrange and finish Kashimashi and Vividred, for example.
Even though I haven’t watched much Hibike yet, I’m pretty satisfied by NozoMizo so I don’t really care about KumiRei anymore. KumiAsu though I might still hold a torch for, but we’ll see.
I’m shocked but please to see Rikka x Akane ending up on your favorites, I did not think you were all that attached to them. I love them to death though and I haven’t stopped thinking about them since I finished the show. God I think I want a rewatch, and I hope I can read that doujin the ED director wrote someday.
KuroMaya is legendary and I love them, but I’m honestly more partial to Futaba x Kaoruko and Hikari x Karen (and Junna x Nana). Every Starlight ship is great though (except the ones in the mobage but that’s another can of worms).
Not all that surprised to see Minna and Mio on here. Definitely like them more than Eila x Sanya (who are great, don’t get me wrong), but my Strike Witches OPs stand as Barkhorn x Hartmann and Yoshika x Lynnette. Can’t wait for Road to Berlin next year tbh, though I still need to catch up on that 4koma short (I’ll probably just wait until it’s done at this point).
Rin x Ko is really good, but I’m honestly not as optimistic as you are about their future. And I’m far more partial toward Nenecchi x Umiko and Aoba x Hifumi tbh.
Thank you SO much for including Hibiki x Narumi, they were my favorite couple of 2015 and are just so goddamn freaking wholesome. Re-Kan! is criminally underrated.
Bless ChikaHime. I know KnM has aged like milk and Chikane’s actions are still too controversial to even try to excuse (but can at least be justified within the context of the narrative), but I still unconditionally love these two. They are eternal without a doubt.
I’m glad that you’re on the YuuTouko train still, I won’t say anything about the manga but its about to end and its going in some very good directions. I hope we get a season 2 announcement at some point. Tohru x Kobayashi is also perfect and I’m tentatively excited for season 2 of Dragon Maid as well.
And yes, HibiMiku, PapiCona and Yuuna x Togo, the best magical girl couples of them all IMHO. I will probably love them all unconditionally until I die tbh. Your descriptions of them are very apt and I really appreciate it.
HaruYuu isn’t too bad, but Sakura Trick is kinda frustrating to watch because it just makes me feel so weird…Kotone x Shizuku would probably be my pick though and I’ll finish the anime eventually.
EmiRuru and MiraiRiko really are great, aren’t they? I still haven’t finished Hugtto or MahouGirls yet, but I love them to death. Have you seen all the official art of the former and that kiss between the latter in the manga Kamikita Futago drew? All of their stuff is so damn good.
I really wanted to like Anne x Grea and Izetta x Fine more than I do, but my conflicting feelings on their shows aside (though I liked Manaria far more than Izetta in the end), I still love them and will not hesitate to like/retweet or simply admire fanart of them if I come across it. Regardless of the quality of their shows, they are both so good (and I will watch an s2 of Manaria Friends if it comes).

the truth over Saki’s world is awesome and logical. that explain the disproportion between male and female population because it’s far more convinient for lesbian couples to use iPSCs than for gay couples.

Great choices all around (except that I support KumiRei rather than KumiAsu), and I’m not even going to try to discuss them all. That would take more time than I have.
I do have to say that that Saki revelation is shocking, in a good way. I hadn’t heard that before. That means there’s absolutely nothing preventing the girl couples from getting together, and indeed many of them werer BORN from just that. Amazing.
