Longtime fans know what I’m about to say whenever Top Gun Cute Mute appears.

Finally.
I’m finally going on vacation. Granted it’s not exactly the kind I hoped for but to quote the developers of Mighty No. 9, “It’s better than nothing”. Starting Wednesday March 13th I’ll be gone for about two weeks or so. As mentioned in this post I’ve been needing a vacay for quite some time. Hopefully I’ll be back before Wrestlemania 35, refreshed and less annoyed with humanity…Nah. That will never change. At the very least I won’t be as sad and angry as I was last year.
I also want to take this opportunity to address something I have yet to do. An annual tradition in these parts. That being the 2018 edition of the Yuri Awards and tournaments. The reason I have yet to do and honestly will skip them this year is two-fold:
1: The above mentioned post. I just felt tired and unmotivated.
2: As STACKED as 20-Gay-Teen was…let’s be brutally honest.
The 2017 tournament where Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid dominated most of it was a big sign. Heck the one battle I was the most invested in was Tales of Zestiria: The X’s RoLisha vs YumiKuri. The fact RoLisha came super close to beating a mainstream sweetheart couple was enjoyable to see. Then we had 2018. As I said, the blunt truth is that if I were to host a tournament and award ceremony that year most of you know that Citrus and Bloom Into You would DOMINATE most if not all categories they’re in. Maybe there could have been a few upsets here and there from strong contenders like Revue Starlight but for everything else, Citrus vs BiY. When a recent voting poll in Japan to vote for the “best yuri anime/anime featuring yuri in recent memory” has Citrus and BiY at the Top 2 spot and some of my colleagues who said they wouldn’t make it about Citrus vs BiY…only to end up doing so inadvertently or intentionally…I rest my case.
There you have it. The reason why I skipped the tournament and awards. I’ll do my best to be more fair and not skip 2019…even though Dragon Maid 2 will most likely premiere this Summer or Fall and end up dominating like it did in 2017. Like I said the vacation, while not what I wanted on paper, will hopefully help cleanse my body to have a better outlook on life…Not humanity. That’s never gonna change.
Have great, refreshing trip ! π All the best and be safe ! π

To be fair, Citrus and BiY would only dominate because most of the mainstream audience watched them, maybe if there was a way to make a tournament in which the winners didn’t depend on the number of people voting for the same show? I’m still upset in 2017 Hina Logi didn’t win anything simply because most people didn’t watch it. Maybe a system in which the winners are the average of votes from 0 to 10 stars? So even if only one person votes for a show, it still has 10 stars?

For me – and other yuri anime fans – Citrus is the MOST overrated/-hyped yuri anime in years or even ever.
BIY is only a little bit better. Both due to the slow pacing and to the case that BIY has an ongoing manga, too.
If they make S2 of Citrus, it has to end with the manga end. After that, Citrus+ is the sequel, where the manga has 2 chapters out.
BIY has to see, in which direction the manga goes and how long it will be.
I love Hina Logi and have it – instead of Citrus and BIY – still in my bookmark list.

So true. I’m tired of “artificial drama” yuri where the author clearly wants a huge, epic emotional story, but is incapable of doing so, probably because of having a rather poor emotional life themselves.
As a result we get these strange “Don’t love me, I’m an asexual robot, I’ll keep running away and hating myself” stories (goes for both girls of BiY just as much as for Mei). A reflection of Japan, perhaps?
I will watch Hina Logi over and over. It’s silly and simple, the girls are shy and adorable like real girls, they stumble and meander on the path to finding love, and it all happens in an enjoyable and real way. Sure the story is unrealistic in its setting, but no more than Citrus and BiY are unrealistic in their harsh and forced drama.
Speaking of emotions and drama, the way Eiko charms girls in Slow Start completely blows out Citrus and BiY ^^ Now that was written by someone who actually understands seduction.
