375th G-View: Uzamaid!

An anime that at first I was quite wary of as my preference when it comes to age-gap yuri is for the younger of the two ladies to have at least hit puberty or preferably be in her mid-late teens. However, the older of the two was the type of woman I was especially attracted to. I had a dilemma. Even so I was willing to give the anime a chance. Did my patience and resolve pay off? Find out as we take a look at Uchi no Maid ga Usazugiru! “Uzamaid!” for short or as I called it throughout most of my coverage, The Muscle Maid Show.

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING ANIME CONTAINS A DANGEROUS AGE-GAP PAIRING (Adult woman and a minor) AND LOTS OF LOLICON HUMOR. IF SUCH THINGS BOTHER YOU THEN IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO PICK UP THIS SHOW.

Uzamaid!.jpg

Genres: Age-Gap, Comedy, Yuri

Themes: Lolicon, Maids

Number of episodes: 12 + OVA

G-Rating: 7/10

Plot Summary: Misha is a little girl who lost her mother at an early age, and now lives with her father. Her father employs a maid named Tsubame, who was a former Self-Defense Force official, and is also a lolicon.

Uzamaid Tsubame's muscles

Tsubame. The main reason I gave the show a chance.

I will not mince words. I am okay with most age-gap yuri. One of my favorite yuri manga of all time is about an age-gap couple. The main reason is because they take the relationship very seriously and take every step imaginable to make it work. Uzamaid of course is a comedy. I was worried it would be the kind of comedy where the older lesbian was a lecherous freak. While she IS freaky…I have seen worse. She is thankfully not as dangerous as Haruka from Kanamemo (Still a good show btw). Basically Tsubame is a lolicon with a good heart. Her preference in lovers is questionable but she means well. She just cannot contain her love when happy. As the above image of her shows the main draw of the show for me was Tsubame’s gorgeousness. I love muscular women and in a year filled with some sexy ladies with wonderful abs Tsubame was the creme de la creme. She is not at the level of Valmet from Jormungand (Ohhhhhh yeeeeessssss) but is still a phenomenal beauty. Viewers were sadly denied a swimsuit segment/episode but luckily the show knew what the people came for and blessed them with Tsubame’s magnificent physique as often as possible.

Scheming director Misha

While I personally thought Misha and Tsubame had better interactions with side-characters I also admit to have laughed out loud at some of their antics.

Misha and Tsubame’s early interactions went as follows: “This muscle maid is a freak of nature and disgusting pervert! I must find a way to get rid of her.” I admit some of their early antics got a good laugh out of me. They were not all hits but some, like in the above image, were genuinely amusing. However, as I said in the above description I preferred it when they talked to other people.

Tsubame experiencing the horror of the internet

Tsubame learning about the dark(er) side of the internet.

As mentioned in the warning half of the show’s jokes revolve around Tsubame being a lolicon. There are also some anti-pedophile jokes. Yes. Believe it or not there is a difference between loli/shotacons and pedophiles. That being the latter are actual monsters whereas the former have…acquired tastes. I do commend the show for showing that whenever these people go too far they pay for their crimes. Even Tsubame is not devoid of punishment. Again there are times she overdoes it. Good on the writers. I also commend the animators for not going down the “loli fanservice” route. The furthest they go are Misha’s teddy bear pajamas with a tight rear. Not even during bath or onsen scenes do they show much. Again, good on ya animators.

Yui's brain shot down

Misha, her one true love Mimika and self-proclaimed rival Yui (who had a temporary mental shutdown).

As I said before Misha and Tsubame’s best interactions are with other characters such as Misha with her destined bride Mimika and her one-sided rival Yui.

Midorin relishing rejection as usual

The best character on the show.

The other major side-character debuts during the second half of the show. Once she did the show became infinitely better. When I first heard about Midorin I had a hunch she would be a great character. She exceeded my expectations. Not as buff but still a gorgeous muscle maid in her own right Midorin became the unofficial second protagonist alongside Tsubame and The People’s Champion. Like Tsubame she too had a good heart and…questionable preferences. Not a lolicon though. She loves her women buff and tough. I will not spoil what she is into but rest assured every time she is on screen viewers’ lives are made infinitely better at her expense.

Young Misha and Yatsuhiro

The show has some nicely done drama.

While I was not entirely invested in the main drama until the very end I cannot deny it was well done. Remember the above plot summary? It goes deep. Some might too deep for a lolicon themed comedy. Either way there is a chance the main backstory will tug at some viewers’ heart strings. Again I am admittedly impressed.

The presentation is good. The attention to muscle detail is commendable. It is not as incredible as Hanebado! but still very nice. When it comes to the soundtrack big nod goes to Misha’s theme song that will remind 80’s and 90’s kids of a certain mega popular puzzle game. Other notable tunes are the comedic “Psycho” parody and Midorin’s jingle. The OP is quite catchy and ED amusing.

Tsubame's dream

The best compliment I can give Uzamaid! is the following…I would gladly watch a second season of this anime over Jashin-chan. The lolicon jokes are hit and miss but unlike Jashin-chan I laughed many more times per episodes instead of once of twice as most of the non-lolicon jokes were good. The cast were all likable, the presentation was nice, the main drama was surprisingly well done and the yuri is “take it or leave it”. Not a show I would highly recommend but viewers who read my review in spite of the above warning might be curious enough to give this anime a try.

Better than I thought but not for everyone basically.

I’m a big yuri age gap viewer/reader (Itou Hachi’s works are some of my favorites) so I’m probably at the opposite spectrum of most of the people here, but I feel like I would have preferred an ending where Misha went more on the “dere” and less on the “tsun”. There was a significant amount of development in the show’s main pairing in terms of the atmosphere between them and how much Misha acknowledges Tsubame, but there wasn’t much concrete “physical” development, now I’m not talking Illya-tier loli makeout sessions or anything, but some sort of payoff at the end would have been preferable.

Other than that, I didn’t like this show’s side characters as much, as some others this season, none of them really did anything that would be cause for me enjoying their presence, my age gap yuri bias aside, the show in general felt kind of lukewarm a lot of the time. Other than that, the comedy felt somewhat dry and the show didn’t take itself seriously enough when I felt it should have.

When Tsubame said Misha was her light, Misha seemed like she wanted to reply with something else “you’re my…” but ended saying “you’re my maid”. That’s as dere as you can get.

And regarding physical, she hold her hand.

I wasn’t bothered by the lolicon stuff so I was fully able to enjoy this one. This show had me constantly laughing. I really liked this show so it would be cool if it got a 2nd season.

The lady abs in this show were quite divine. Yes indeed.

    Freaking loved it~
I can forgive the animators for taking out what little loli service the manga had…if they give us an OVA đŸ˜¦
The artist is so good at the few ecchi shots of the lolis….

Exactly why I love this manga so much~ It has all the greatness of onerori, plus some really well done character development. And just really well done characters in general. It’s THE anime to get people to go “I DIDN’T WANT TO LIKE THIS BUT SOMEHOW LIKED IT” đŸ˜€

Really hoping for a second season!

I think Yui was my favorite overall personally. I’ve got a thing for those who are down on their luck.

Although I DO like age gap yuri (yes, even a lolicon type of relationship) but to turn it into a form of entertainment is kind of………unsettling. I know I shouldn’t be critical about Tsubame’s antics cause they only served for the lol’s but that doesn’t take away my rights to make judgement and to be honest, I find it uncomfortable to say the least.

That’s not to say Tsubame is without redeeming qualities, there are quite a bit in fact. She’s still a woman with a heart of gold, mannerism, workplace professionalism and best of all, them MUSCLE (watching this show actually re-sparked my passion for the gym so that’s a good thing)

BUT, the thing I like the most about UzaMaid! is MIDORIN, the best masochistic maid in the multiverse and not seeing her being with Tsubame is not okay guys, at all. I still prefer Misha x Washiwashi and Tsubame x Midorin though.

Also, I recently caught some wind of the upcoming UzaMaid! OVA and let’s all pray that it’s MIDORIN Special.

Wasn’t invested in Misha X Tsubame at all. Not even at the end.

Tsubame, sexual preference aside, was a cool and sexy character.

Midorin was exactly what the show needed.

I never thought I’d enjoy a show about lolicon yuri this much. Tsubame glorious body was a big point for me, but as a lolicon, she wasn’t that bad. I’ve seen worse, for example, and you already mentioned Haruka Kanamemo. Haruka had too many skinship. While Tsubame still being a respectable lolicon. Her thoughts were wild tho. And Midorin, she saved the show, because I got bored of all the lolicon jokes, I mean, what’s new here. She’s my best girl of the show. She really is something, I don’t know how to describe her, maybe the gayest masochist maid. So yeah, I too wouldn’t mind a season 2.

Misha and Washiwashi are cute together. Yui’s constant challenges are amusing. Kumagoro and the Hamsters Three are a fun diversion. Midorin and her extreme doormat fetish are always worth a laugh.

    Tsubame is…there.

Mimika is Misha’s true love. Yui’s no Riko but a decent tsundere rival. The pets were fun and adorable. Midorin saved the show.

      Translation: Tsubame eventually bored you.

This show gave a good laugh…for the first few episodes. It’s still funny but not as much later on, I still liked it. One reason is because of WashixMisha đŸ˜€ I wish they had more moments together.
I actually like Midorin more than Tsubame along the way đŸ˜›

  10. This was a nice good yuri anime and even if I were not an age gap yuri fan, I would not have a problem with the age difference. My one problem with this show though is the annoying dad who could have been a one-off character and his wife should have been the one who is alive like in Spyce. Misha and her loli friends are some of the cutest lolis around while Tsubame is clearly one of the best maids in the history.

I have to admit that Tsubame’s attraction can get creepy at times, I have to admit it’s a surprisingly fun show. It’s nice to see Misha finally defrost for the most part short of marriage, which I don’t see happening anytime soon.

But yes, Mimika and Misha is a better pairing along with Midori and Tsubame. I wish Tsubame would just take Misha’s suggestions and then adopt Misha. I guess it won’t happen since Tsubame has no interest in her.

If they do hook up and get married I’ll have a “Oh. Okay”, reaction rather than squee. I’ve seen better age-gap ships.

Midorin’s chances with Tsubame are 0 but Misha and Mimika is pretty much destiny.

Maybe not my favorite show of the season, but it still had it’s moments here and there. I will say that the lack of a pool/beach/swimsuit ep was felt greatly as they kept on teasing Tsubame and her insane body but we only saw glimpses of it throughout the show.

I wasn’t all that bothered by the lolicon stuff, yes it was weird but not a complete turn off overall. The heartfelt moments balanced out any weird lolicon stuff and everything just kinda equaled out well, so it was all fine. Not really sure who I liked the most, maybe Midorin I don’t know honestly.

But all in all it was an alright show, not terrible or anything. Final score for me is probably a 7/10. Would’ve been a higher score if there was that swimsuit ep. Maybe an OVA or something in the future.

Exactly. They teased a swimsuit segment for our muscle maids, especially Tsubame, but kept us hanging. Maybe in the upcoming OVA as you mentioned. On the bright side we briefly got to see Midorin in bra and panties. A good consolation prize I’d say.

Midorin is the undisputed best woman.

  14. I’m definitely on the “did not expect to actually like this show much, but it’s made so well and quite funny and not actually too creepy and Tsubame actually has redeeming qualities” camp. Muscles aren’t always my thing, but I can appreciate them, indeed. And Misha x Mimika is great, indeed. But I must say…

MIDORIN SPIN-OFF NOW. I need more of my masochist maid cosplayer, ASAP.

Seeing the premise of this show, I understand the apprehension one would have about this show. As for me, I just jumped on in and enjoyed this wild ride. Seeing as this is a comedy, I didn’t mind Tsubame’s passes towards Misha, especially since she got shut down each and every time.

Despite her very glaring faults, Tsubame is a top-tier maid and she got some laughs outta me with her antics. She also knows when to get serious and drop some pearls of wisdom. The last episode was a great bonding moment for her and Tsubame.

I hate Midorin…in the sense that hating her is the optimal way to show how much you love her, seeing how she adores being stepped on figuratively and perhaps literally. Anyway, she was a great addition to the show and she was a good foil to Tsubame.

I liked that Yasuhiro wasn’t treated too badly. He was bumbling in some aspects but that’s understandable given his home situation.

If Yui insists on being Misha’s rival, she’ll have some impulse control. Her tsun game trips her up constantly.

Misha’s got a good head on her shoulders. If she were in a RPG, she’d be a Beast Tamer, given her love for animals and Kumagoro and the hamsters undying loyalty towards her. Mimika and her is a good pairing.

Didn’t take the duo as a couple seriously, which I think was the point. Better age gap couples and ships out there.

Sexual preference aside Tsubame was pretty cool and super sexy.

      Midorin is a treasure.

      Yasuhiro is a great dad.

      Poor Yui.

Misha is indeed a beast master.

      Misha X Mimika are love.

Considering the premise of the show it did have a really wholesome ending. It surpassed me.
The best past was without a doubt Mimika. She is one of the cutest character I have ever seen and every interaction she has with Misha screams that they are made for each other.
Also Midorin still looks WAY better in her casual clothes.
