Release the Spyce Episode 10: Extra Spycy

Things got extra spycy this episode.

Byakko joins the battle.jpg

Byakko was ready to Smash.

We kicked off the episode with Tendo leaving Soraseki alongside Theresia, who chose to return to Moryou. They would be back on the 17th, Judgment Day. Our heroines took this opportunity to take prepare and enjoy themselves for a bit.

Goemon reporting.jpg

This made me laugh.

Hatsume and Goemon having a hearty meal.jpg

Hatsume enjoying Goemon’s special meal.

Hatsume hadn’t slept for days searching for Theresia. Goemon treated her with a special love meal.

Mei treating Fu.jpg

Mei treating Fu.

Next up were Mei and Fu sharing a Haaghen Dazs and talking about their future. Mei gave a drifter like answer Elias would be proud of while Fu was like “I’ll follow you  everywhere”.

Momo proud to be Yuki's apprentice.jpg

Momo proud to be Yuki’s apprentice.

Lastly we had our main couple. Katrina and then Master Yuki brought up how Momo needed to find her own apprentice one day. Most likely Byakko. Momo was taken aback by the eventuality but for now was happy to be with the Master she loved, who wanted to travel abroad after graduation.

That was the first half. The second half was set on Judgment Day.

Tendo captured.jpg

Tendo captured.

One thing I could tell right away was Tendo intending to be captured. It was too easy so I’m sure many of us knew something was up. The highlight was Master Yuki’s rage as she could barely contain the urge to kill her Master’s murderer. Didn’t help that Tendo intentionally threatened Momo.

It had begun.jpg

It had begun.

Our heroines planned on taking Tendo to base for a very long interrogation. Unfortunately the villains sprung their trap.

Step 1:  Blowing up the Tsukikage base with Katrina, Byakko and the animal friends still in it. 100% sure they survived.

Step 2: Lead our heroines to an ambush and trap them.

Step 3: The traitor would reveal herself. Drum roll please.

Mei the traitor.jpg

Mei the Traitor.

Guess you can’t trust a hot chick randomly sitting on your lap. Fingers crossed she’s a double-agent.

Yuki out for revenge.jpg

Yuki out for revenge.

Pissed off to the max Yuki went Double Spyce (Not a good thingdespite the massive power boost). Tendo distracted with more drones while she set her eyes elsewhere…

Theresia seeing Hatsume die at sea.jpg

Theresia seeing Hatsume “die” at sea.

Hatsume and Theresia engaged in another epic battle when Mei went all cocky heel and took her out, throwing a bomb for good measure. 99% sure she didn’t die. The important part here was Theresia finally realizing she was nothing more than a pawn to Tendo. We’ll see where that goes in the coming two episodes. Hopefully not with a sacrifice but I have a bad feeling someone could go down that route. Anime have that habit.

Momo down.jpg

Momo down.

Back to our main duo. Tendo caught Momo with a sneak attack, taunting Yuki some more. Then “IT” happened…

Not the good kind of Deja vu.jpg

Not the good king of deja vu.

Momo took it well. I have a bad feeling about this one.

The apprentices were taken to Moryou base to be experimented on. Let’s hope the “Sacrifice Count” won’t be too harsh.

Try not to be ultra smug in the comments with the “called it” remarks. “Too obvious” remarks were thrown around like sacks of potatoes and won’t be taken seriously.

Sh*t hit the fan this episode.
Don’t know how Yuki could have survived that cut.

I agree on Mei might be a double agent. Like Tendo that got captured too easy, Mei acting is a little bit too much. It’s like she was shouting from the rooftops that she’s bad. I hope I’m not wrong. And I have a feeling ALL girls are still alive. Even Yuki’s master. Fingers crossed.

This ep went from 0-100 really fast. Man the back half had me reeling.

Mei being the traitor was shocking, but I kinda saw it coming at the very last moment when she quickly volunteered to watch Tendo while everyone else jumped out for battle. That struck me as a little strange. Also Tendo totally wanted to get captured, she wasn’t trying to be sneaky at all.

The general opinion about Mei being a double agent does seem very plausible, although she did stab Hatsume in the legs, unless that was just for show. Going a bit far there if so. Guess we’ll see.

I know this will sound bad to say, but part of me kinda does wish Yuki actually dies. Not that I have anything against her or something, it’s just that would be such a twist in the plot and would be a good way to really shape Momo’s character going into these final eps. Granted I’m pretty sure she’ll survive and everyone will go home in the end, but just strictly looking it at from that way, having Yuki actually die would be a interesting spin on things.

These final few eps will certainly be exciting, that’s for sure.

Started suspecting her when she sat on Yuki’s lap.

Gotta make it extra convincing. Maybe Katrina’s in on the ruse.

Pulling a page out of old-school Disney I see. I initially suspected the show would go for a Student vs Teacher battle. Less cumbersome than “student bounces back after traumatic teacher death” to be honest.

  5. Personally, I really, really hope Mei is indeed a double agent.

But damn, that 2nd half hit me harder than I thought it would. Especially as next weekend, I might not be able to watch the next episode as it airs, and at worst, might have to wait a week to be able to watch it…or at least to be able to watch it like I normal would. I might just have to try and watch it anyway from somewhere, if so…because wow, that was a 180 degree turn into a cliffhanger ending if I’ve ever seen one.

And Mei certainly made it convincing enough if she really is a double agent, and if not…well…

And yeah, I hope most everyone survives this and what’s to come…

…But if I know one thing, it’s that Mouryou think they’ve won right now, and are thus precisely at their most vulnerable…or at least so it seems.

      Hopefully she’s a double-agent.

Yes. Surely they will have dropped their guard. If not then we’ll have to wait and see how our captured heroines bounce back from this shocking betrayal.

I hope Mei is a double agent. If so, she and Fu will be in a position to strike back next week. Hopefully Hatsume has an antidote for the “Welcome to Moryo” poison that Mei so easily drank.

Katrina, the undefeated Byakko, and the animals are definitely safe. Hatsume’s injured, but not dead. Yuki… it depends on where the show wants to go.

Tendo showed why she was the second sexiest villain of the season.

And the episode started so nicely with four dates… even if they had to cut Momo’s friends for runtime.

I will not say “that was so obvious from the start!” Because it wasn’t. But I will say, I can’t believe that my initial guess was right! Because I shifted from it later on. Guess it goes to show you to always trust that first instinct!

It was presented in such a way that anyone could be alive really. Hanzo is the one with the least amount of evidence towards her being alive, but it’s not confirmed at all.

Would be quite the twist if the blonde Moryou agent ended up being actually someone who wanted to tear Moryou down from the inside, and she purposefully avoided any actual vitals on Hanzo. I am also of the belief that Mei is working with Hanzo’s previous mentor. But blondie being a double agent herself would be quite the thing.

      Hit hard regardless.

Anime heroes/heroines are known for losing lots of blood in critical battles like this one so there’s a chance she can still go. This will most likely be her final mission though. Hopefully not the last day of her life though.

It’s anyone’s guess at this point.

  8. K says:

Wait, if I remember correctly, those pets were named after the Saint Beasts. Therefore, with Byakko’s recruitment, the Four Saint Beasts attained Maximum Power!!

Welp, turns out Mei was the mysterious traitor. My brother had a hunch that she was the one. Despite that revelation, I found her backstabbing everyone amusing due to how she was going about doing said backstabbing. I’m not even sure she’s a double agent. If she were to double-cross Moryo/Ms.Tendo, she’d do it for the chaos it would unleash. Also, there’s that gel she willingly drank. Either she has a way to neutralize whatever was in it or she’s a dead girl walking. We’ll just wait and see. As of this moment though, it is Fu who’s gonna be handling this turn of events the worst.

Huh, I thought Yuki lost her right eye on that fateful day. I guess it just hurts too much to keep it open for long. Doubling up on the Spyce is a dangerous technique, it seems, not that it did much to help her in that losing situation.

Nothing says total defeat like Mei humming a tune in the midst of the fallen apprentices, Hatsume sleeping with the fishies and Yuki bleeding out from that deadly slash. Their second wind is going to be huge, I tell ya.

Lots of scenes which have me going “Why don’t you just shoot ’em?” when the T-Dolls are pointing their guns at the protags yet JUST NOT PULLING THE TRIGGER… details like that really makes me twitch.

  10. Jeanette says:

I hope that Mei will be an ordinary traitor. The villain who is hated by the audience is very-very boring. But a villain whom viewers can empathize is 100 times more interesting. Mei is my favourite character anyway. ;-P

  11. Platon says:

The traitor had me surprised but the lap sitting was a bit off and made me wonder hat is she doing but not enough to suspect her. Mei was sudenly anoing too much. Can´t say if she tried to hide this side or she is just playing her part at this point.

As for dead count. I think that they are all alive but I guess there will be some dead count in the end.

At first, when the idea of a traitor was brought out, I really wished it was Momo. Y’know the plot where protagonist turned out to be a vilain. I really love these stories. Hehe.

Anyway, I will just believe in their motto “Spyes are liar.” That’s all and I guess you get it.
