Zombieland Saga Episode 5: Undead Cuckoolympics

Last episode we were promised undead chickens. Let’s see if they kept their promise.

Saki attacks Kotaro again

Still hoping Saki beating up Kotaro becomes a weekly thing, though it makes me wonder if he’s also a monster. That or the blow to the knee was a joke. We’ll see.

Meeting 5 was underway and the usual stuff happened until Kotaro brought up his next crazy scheme.

Drive-in Tori.

Seems to be Saga’s famous chicken joint.

Saki's old gang.jpg

Saki and her old gang’s place to dine was Drive-in Tori.

That’s what I gathered from how hyped Saki got. I’m beginning to think that this show in its own twisted way is similar to Locodol with it secretly being a commercial for the Saga prefecture. Then again I should have known that from the start.

The Zombie Girls’ new gig. Chicken mascots.

Tae trying to eat the chicken man.jpg

Best Zombie trying to eat the chicken man. I know he’s a rooster but chicken man is more fun to say.

Good to have you back Best Zombie. Your madness was sorely missed. That wasn’t the end of our “sleeping” heroine’s magnificence though.

Cock a Doodle Tae.jpg

Getting Best Zombie to finally say her line correctly was a big highlight, especially the Assistant Director. Seriously that guy’s funnier than Kotaro all series so far.

Speaking of the lunatic manager he thought their successful take wasn’t good enough because they didn’t channel their inner chicken. He even summoned an imaginary cockatrice, because he’s crazy. Most of the gang were like “Whaaaa…?” whereas Saki was like “the cuckoo’s right”. Anyway, #NiceBird.

Guess this episode was a double header as we’re already on Meeting #6.

Ai about to smack Kotaro.jpg

Ai about to smack Kotaro.

I was laughing my butt off while asking “Why?” Why is this happening? Then I calmed down and continued relishing the madness. Also more Kotaro abuse please. I don’t care if he’s a blob, clay creature or whatever. Keep smacking him around. Anyhoo the only difference between meetings 5 and 6 was the gig. Otherwise it’s the same good stuff. Even the writers were like “Let’s speed this up”.

Police in the mud.jpg

Ladies and the gentlemen. Mauron’s role model. Truly a man to look up to.

Unfortunately things didn’t go any better for our decayed heroines. The girls washed off the mud. However…

Decayed huddle.jpg

Decayed huddle.

Muddied zombies.jpg

After getting muddied up again and a cliche “The one who should suffer, doesn’t” gag our undead cuties prepared for the second event, swinging.

Favorite attempts were Ai’s,

See Miley Cyrus? See Hulk Hogan? That’s how you ride a wrecking ball.

And Sakura’s. To the surprise of no one it was up to the greatest legend to save the day. Sort of.

The last couple of minutes of episode 4 and this entire episode showed yet again the show is at it’s best when it doesn’t give a damn. Next time, however, looks like we’ll be getting another episode 3. We’ll see how it goes.

Oh and it’s also worth mentioning that reporters recognized some of the girls so their secret may be in jeopardy sooner or later.

That cop had a great landing. Still disappointing as a source of bullets this episode. 😦

Kotaro being some kind of immortal monster would explain how he got bodies of some of the older zombies.

Saki showing Sakura her favorite restaurant made me a happy shipper.

When your zombie makeup gets washed off, wear traffic cones.

I bet chicken man is delicious.

Reporters can be troublesome when you’re hiding a zombie sized secret. Hopefully his meddling is entertaining.

Last time I said that is time for the best zombie to wake up, reason being, not enough of her zombienes, this episode changed this and hopefully we will get more.

After having mixed feelings about episode 1 I watched episode 2 and was really impressed by it. The rap battle was simply amazing and made decide to keep watching.
    Episode 3 was meh.
Episode 4 and 5 were funny but I can’t shake the feeling that this anime is a marketing campaign for Saga and I don’t like it.
This anime has some good moments like Kotaro and his crazy voice acting (gogogo made me crack up) and Saki’s running joke about her tamagotchi ( I really liked that they showed it in the flashback) but I really hope they tone down the marketing aspect in the next episodes.

Because it kind of is a commercial for the Saga prefecture.

If you dislike idol anime or Locodol, you’re not gonna like this show very much by the end of it.

  4. Back to very nice stuff again.

I indeed wonder what that first moment with Kotaro and the ball meant…and what indeed he is. I wonder if it’ll shed light on how he made them into zombies, and how he has their bodies, indeed…

Apparently those mud olympics they went to in the latter half are a real thing, and seems just as silly as it looks…

More of Tae being LEGENDARY, please. And I agree, she could still stay “asleep” for a little while. Though I do wonder that if she hasn’t “awakened” by now, what exactly will end up being the trigger for it? Probably something random and hilarious.

      We’ll see where that goes.

Yes they are. I did say the show is kind of a commercial for the Saga prefecture. Plus the blurred commercials were real.

Best Zombie is still the best. Take all the time you need. If it’s before the end of the show I’m cool with that. It’s all about when and how it happens.

I’m almost expecting Tae to be “in on it” and have some sort of knowledge on how zombies are a thing.

I’m just starting with the assumption that Kotaro is some kind of actual necromancer lich of doom who can’t find any better use for his powers than starting an idol group to promo-… ahem “save” Saga, either way, the actual zombie stuff and mechanics comprise a lot of my interest in the show at the moment, that and the possibility of yuri being a thing.

This is by far my favorite episode yet!

Tae living up to the legend that she is! She was truly amazing this episode!

When Kotaro “charmed ” that guy like that lady last episode was hilarious!

Kotaro on the floor gathering dirt while weakly saying dirt was great!

The last few minutes of this episode was the best part! There were tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! I don’t remember laughing that hard from an anime. Everything about it was amazing!

I really like Saki! She was also great this episode!

Like I commented last episode I totally ship Sakura x Saki.

PS the facial expressions in this series is absolutely amazing.

I have mixed feelings about Kotaro. On one hand I like him because of how crazy he is (plus being voiced by Mamoru Miyano certainly helps). On the other hand he can be a real jackass to the girls.

I still suspect that he’s behind at least some of the girls deaths.

As for whether he’s a monster, I couldn’t say for sure, but some people suspect he might also be a zombie.

The best part of this episode was Yamada Tae. She did a perfect impression of a rooster and helped the girls win the event. She truly deserves her status as The Legendary Yamada Tae!

It will be interesting to see where things go with the reporter. Especially since it seems like he recognizes some of the girls.

Kinda the point of his character. He’s funny, except when bullying the girls for no reason.

      He’s definitely not a babyface.

      Could be.

      Best Zombie FTW!

      Yup.

I think for the next episodes onwards we’ll gonna learn how the girls died. Some serious stuff. This is my thoughts. We know how Sakura died, and she has a scar on her face, that’s probably why she has amnesia. Ai, well judging by the bandages probably fire burns. Saki probably died in a gang fight or bike accident. Yugirin, judging by the scar on her neck probably she had her neck cut by someone or she killed herself. Lily probably had some sort of heart failure. Junko, well she has stitches and patches every where, maybe long term abuse? And Tae, I have no idea. Could be a lot of scary thing. Maybe that’s why she hasn’t wake up yet. And I think she’s got a big plot twist ahead. I can’t think of anything about Kotaro. Sorry for a dark comment, horror theme is kinda my thing.

I really love the show and saki x sakura was the best ship for me. I hope you can review this anime too. Waiting. Waiting.
