Tower of Five Hearts Plot Summary

As my introduction and the plot summary so eloquently explained the story is essentially a harem-esque competition where the heroine gets to flirt with and is flirted by five lovely ladies in hopes that one of them will be chosen to rule over the kingdom with her as her wife/co-queen. Let us get the obvious question out of the way, there is unfortunately no harem route but we will get to that in a bit.

As far as the story goes it follows some familiar harem tropes such as the protagonist accidentally running into the girls naked or joint bath scenes, only the protagonist is not of the wimpy/cowardly/indecisive variety but one who is as eager to get in on the action as the maids are but they all do their best to follow procedure and save the good stuff for when the lucky maid is chosen by the lucky princess…unless the ladies feel like getting exclusive “previews” every now and then. While this is a competition the maids, for the most part, play nice making their advances subtle rather than “in your face/annoy the others” only going for the attack when one has alone time with the princess and the opportunity to show why they are worthy of spending the rest of their life alongside the princess without talking down their competition. In fact, despite it being a competition the ladies’ time in the tower is some of the best in their lives.

It is not all fun and games though as this is essentially an arranged marriage setup of sorts. While the story is mostly sexy and lighthearted there are a few points where “plreaders” (play-read) get glimpses of how the system affected the princess and the maids’ social lives before coming to the tower. Some of them having had it rougher than others. It is a world governed by royalty and politics after all. Other than that it is mostly cuteness and hotness.

Expect several cut scenes and CGs throughout the game of the ladies in all their glory, not just the sexier ones.

On to the presentation and gameplay. First up the presentation. It has a simple charm to it. It is a charm similar to that of Kindred Spirits on the Roof. The art is not amazing but it does need to be to please the eyes. The different parts of the tower from the dining room to the garden look nice and of course the ladies are all quite appealing visually. If there is one part of the game I did not find as impressive it would be the soundtrack. It is not bad by any means but I have heard better. Minor nitpicking all things considered as it did not ruin the experience. Also the endings/epilogues were a little bit brief.

Gameplay is the standard visual novel fare of multiple choices leading to several endings good and bad: You either get the girl of your dreams or not depending on your decisions. Besides ending up with one of the the five maids there is also an…interesting extra option. “Plreaders” will notice which one as the hints start to drop. Let us just say some of the ladies have more than a sexual preference for other ladies.

Do not worry. Not all the steamy action is relegated to bathtime.

Next up let us go over the princess and the lovely maids she has to choose from:

First up is Princess Marie herself. Having been raised in a royal family in which the tradition was for the chosen bachelor to be…a bachelor and not a bachelorette, there were some hiccups for out heroine being raised in such an environment. Even so she got to enjoy some of the best of both worlds…especially the blessing of receiving female tutors and companions who inadvertently helped her “see the light” as it were. She has both masculine and feminine personality traits and tastes.

Next up let us go over the maids who despite all having equal hunger for royal flesh and moments of nervousness, can be divided in two groups: Ones who are more open with their advances and ones who are more timid.

Let us go over the naughty ones first:

-Tomiko the dog is pretty much the tomboy and most energetic of the group and one of the more “well equipped” of the maids in both skills and…other areas.

-Momo the bunny is an eloquent lady. Close enough to fill the “ojou-sama” role though prefers speaking casually despite her formal etiquette. She can be seen as the unofficial leader figure of the maids due to her proper etiquette and composure despite being one of the naughtier ones. She is also an excellent cook.

-Kiri the fox, while appearing the most mature of the maids is also the youngest. Thanks to her upbringing she takes the role of big sister/mother figure of the group. She also has the second most stamina in the group, second only to Tomiko.

-Aiko the cat is the opposite of Kiri. She has the smallest figure in the group but is also the oldest. While very kind and caring she is also quite timid and has poor social skills. Tends to show mild tsundere tendencies.

-Mutsumi the saurian/lamia/lizard is the most well-endowed and timid of the maids, lacking in self-confidence and experience as a maid due to her originally not being the chosen representative of her continent. This timidity is why she can relate with Aiko.

As mentioned above the main goal is to court one of the maids which is not difficult to do as “plreaders” mainly need make the choices that favor their chosen lover. The bonus route though requires some guesswork on how to unlock it.

Overall The Tower of Five Hearts is an enjoyable yuri harem story that could make for a delightful anime. The princess and her potential suitors are all cute, sexy and likable, their stories are neat, their interactions delightful and while the soundtrack is not great the rest of the presentation is good. Recommended to yuri fans who want a fun harem tale where, unlike most anime adaptations of harem stories, there must be a winner.

I cannot for the life of me unlock the bonus route, as you call it. I’ve even tried looking up info from other people who say they gotting making X choices, but even following those choices myself hasn’t been able to unlock it for me. 😦

Putting this aside, this game is good. If I were to complain about anything, it would be that it feels too short to me. I wanted to have more pleasant times with the girls living together before it had to end. Oh, and a harem ending where no one has to lose would be great too.

  2. Hi the developer here thank you for your review. About the music I would of liked to improve or add to it but the musician that worked with us left the scene whilst the project was in development. Although I was happy with it at the time when it was first produced. I’ve had other musicians in mind but its a bit of a struggle cost wise currently as a growing indie team.
