It was announced at the “Stage of Missions” event that Princess Principal would be getting a sequel in 2019. Then it was announced it would be presented in a six-part movie format. It would seem that the new thing when it comes to some anime continuations is the following: “If you can’t get a new TV season then how about a multi-part cinematic feature?”
Girls und Panzer got a similar deal with their “final” season. As usual when it comes to anime movies the sole nuisance is waiting for “dem subs”. Peeps who have no such issue are the lucky ones. So for now the news articles say the movies will air in 2019. Maybe it’ll be similar to the Washio Sumi movies and they’ll air back to back throughout the year. We’ll see. Whether the movies will fill in the gaps of cases that weren’t shown during the first season or simply continue where S1 left off and not reference those cases I’m ready for more gay spy action! Hopefully the writers listened to the fan reactions and will do the right thing. Thanks to Pink Raichu they know.

While BD sales are not the end all be all of determining success of something, last I checked the BD sales were actually quite good.
But gotta remember this has a mobage and all sorts of merchandise to draw support from.

It sold really well. It sold between 5k – 6k which for anime today is really good. It was one of the higher grossing BD of that season.

to note: it says it’s a continuation from the tv series. Well, the PV specifies this.
So, no “fill in the blanks” or “recap” or anything like that. This is set after the final episode.
The wait is going to be killer, but at least we know it’s coming!!

“Fill in the gaps” as in “The missing case numbers”. But yes. After the finale it is then. Maybe they’ll briefly bring up the missing Cases throughout the continuation.

I can’t say I’m surprised. They still have a long journey ahead. I will wait patiently for them to get subbed. Expect an intense action scenes in every single movie. Just like Washio Sumi.

I’m so excited! I also felt highly confident we’d get a second season, but to see it confirmed is great! So ready for more of our favorite spies. Let’s hope we get not just more Ange x Princess development, but Dorothy x Beatrice too. Always happy to see our badass ninja too. Let’s hope for a back to back succession of movie release and quick subs. Also, let’s hope that Rai’s words will influence the creators in a good way.

I’m hyped. I think the anime was severely underrated. Not even in the context of yuri anime, but anime in general. That OP remains amazing to this day.

It’s just common people’s thoughts that if it’s all girls and there’s no male in between as main casts, then ultimately it’s shit/not worthy to watch, especially very prominent in Malaysia anime community group on facebook and whatsapp. Being from that country, I experienced the whole thing myself and honestly felt sick that they thought of such thing. So, apparently things can’t be destined for greatness just because it featured female protagonist, there’s literally zero straight pairing on screen and no boys in the main groups that the story focused on. Not all fans around here think like these of course but it’s very noticeable, and I kept thinking that they should get their head out of the gutter. I’ve been spreading a lot of anime links and recommending people to similar story like Princess Principal or anything that had female protagonist with zero male interference, and avoided leading people to shit that had to do with self insert crap that had a boy falling in love with the main girls or your usual harem garbage, which seems to have little to no success but I’m just getting warmed up. It’s sad really that they can’t seems to think that great anime with zero romance like Tamayura and Sora yori mo tooi basho could still existed, and just because it’s all female, then blablabla, what I’ve said above. Check the most trending anime currently like Darling in the franxx, and see just how popular it is in every possible anime community out there, while both Yuru Camp and Sora yori was certainly an all girls heavyweight champion titles from last season but it’s slowly being forgotten for some reason, probably because it had no romance. Princess Principal suffered the same fate back during it’s airing time, but luckily the smaller number of people that really enjoyed the shows we all like here at Yuri Nation gave great scores to all these titles people neglected just due to trivial reasons, and even succeeded in getting a lot of sales over at Japan, which is damn great. Sure, it’s seems in regard to popularity we’ve lost, but in terms of rating and sales, we’re winning, and I’m excited for that, at the very least. Gotta gave credits to all parties that makes our interest possible and continue to existed, like those that bought the disc, the studio, producer, hell even ourselves for showing our supports in ways we could think of and this kind of website too for giving coverage, insight and news that’s related to our hobby. When it comes to the mainstream all I care about is how much merch a show I like sells. Which show is trending each season is not my concern. Should it be one I really like. Great. If not then whatever.

I’m really glad this is getting a sequel. The anime was so good and unique that we need more of it. The way season 1 ended I’m sure Ange and the Princess are gonna be so much more gay in the sequels. We’ll be getting more gayness, Dorothy being sexy, Ange being awesome, and Chie and Beatrice being cute. I can’t wait for this to come out. We’re not even half way into 2018 yet and we already have yuri to look forward to in 2019. Life is great.

Chise is the cutest without a doubt whereas Beatrice is a great love interest for Dorothy.

All their actions lasting the previous 10 years, had the sole purpose of being together (and one of them was not even sure the other was still alive). It seems difficult to be more madly in love.

The only thing that worries me is that a last episode of anime give me a really bad filling regarding a possible continuation and ending of anime as the princes speech in last episode led me to recognize the possibility of the ending where princess sacrifices herself for the greater good. I really really hope I am wrong.

Before the very end when princes is captured, remember what she was talking with that solder, about how she wants to save the country and how she will likely be it’s last queen and how she expect her regain to end on guillotine and all that…..

It did cross mi mind that maybe she was only saying those things in order to manipulate that solider and I hope that is a case but I still can’t help but have a bad feeling about it with how it all happened, it really seemed to me like that is what she was truly planing. Like I said I really do hope I am wrong about it.

No, but there is no garantie Ange would be able to stop her. Even in the end of first season princess was the one that managed to trick Ange when Ange was trying to stop princess from getting captured.
There is also what princes said to Ange when she rescued her, something along the lines of promising her she will not leave her UNTIL she breaks walls around her heart as well. That means she does plan to leave her eventually and I can’t think of any other reason then she planing to sacrifice herself and basically promising her she will make sure she takes care of Ange before that.
Offcourse Ange would try to stop it no matter what, but would she succeed?

At first I was like “SIX MOVIES?!!!” then it hit me that it’s probably like you said, 6 double-length episodes but in cinemas. Not that I’m complaining, mind you – I’d love to see 3h + Actas doing maximum budget for some awesome sakuga scenes. Also, the potential of double length missions sounds awesome for personal (and ship?) development.
One of the best anime of last year got a sequel so soon which is so nice to hear!
