Frosty Ramen Camp Episode 4: Training Regimen

Two of the three shows had training themed episodes this time around.

Shirase's Smug Smile.jpg

I love Shirase’s smile. So beautiful, like the rest of her.

As always we first talk about Antarctica. We joined Mari and Shirase excited that their journey will soon commence when a bunch of mean girls teased them for their delusional aspirations. Mari wanted to shut them up but Shirase’s like “Leave them be. There will be plenty of time to shove it in their faces when we return triumphantly from our journey.” They then went to get the necessary permission from the school board to go on their Antarctic adventure. Shirase’s good to go. Mari still had to ask her parents. However…

Mari's horror.jpg

Let’s just say what happened next put 99% of all mainstream Hollywood horror movies to shame in less than 4 minutes.

Megumi's calm concern.jpg

Megumi’s calm concern.

How Mari survived that horrifying night is anyone’s guess. She told Megumi the only way she would be allowed to go was if she passed every single test up to December. No ifs, ands or buts. Megumi calmly told her to not overwork herself lest she wanted to waste all her efforts. Also something about there’s something about the Megumi scenes that are different each time. I don’t mean the words exchanged but Megumi herself. There’s something about the scenes that I can’t quite grasp.

Yuzuki disliking girly clothes.jpg

Yuzuki dislikes wearing “girly” clothes.

This Yuzuki scene to me meant one of two things:

  • She either really dislikes wearing “girly” clothes as she complained about.
  • She’s so fed up of wearing them at work that any other kind of clothing would be an improvement.

Our heroines met up with one of the explorer babes from the epic chase scene in ep2 and headed to the building where they would begin preparations for their expedition training.

Gin Todo.jpg

Gin Todo.

Upon receiving their instruction guide they were introduced to the captain of the expedition, Gin Todo. Shirase seemed to know her…and wasn’t at all thrilled to see her again.

Special treat for Hinata fans, seeing her with her hair down.

Antarctica Coats.jpg

Their first day of training had Team Antarctica practice positioning their flag at the right angle so as to guide explorers through blizzards or long distances. Throughout the expedition we saw Hinata being a natural born leader and Mari being able to read the compass, making it easier for her to coordinate the correct positioning of the flag compared to when Shirase did it.

Young Shirase.jpg

Young Shirase.

The gang set up tent for the cold night but Mari couldn’t sleep. She than asked Shirase what was wrong between Captain Gin and her because she noticed her looking glum ever since Gin showed up. She’s one of her mom’s friends high school buddies (probably her bestie). She came back home along with the others in the previous expedition but not mom. I imagine Gin’s the first one who told Shirase she couldn’t go looking for her, most likely because unlike Shirase she didn’t believe her mom’s still alive.

Gin and Mari.jpg

Gin and Mari.

Mari was the first to wake up the next morning. She got out of the tent and saw Captain Gin standing on a ledge. She joined her and got to see the sunrise. They talked a bit about Shirase and her mom. Gin saw potential in Mari on the expedition. She then asked her why she wanted to go to Antarctica and Mari responded that at first she just wanted to do something amazing and go on an adventure anywhere outside of her hometown. After meeting her new teammates and everyone in the expedition she knew that going to Antarctica meant so much more and wanted to be a part of it. This optimism later helped cheer Shirase up.

Worried Yuu.jpg

Worried Yuu.

Ramen is up next with Koizumi-san being asked out by several of her male classmates. Yuu wasn’t worried since she knew the only “hubby” Koizumi-san had was ramen. There was a funny scene where Misa was envious of Koizumi-san hogging her spotlight again but as soon as the guys came to her she chased them off for daring to approach her like “Eh. Guess Misa will do”. When she tried asking her out she sadly got the same response. However, there was something that greatly worried her. Koizumi-san said “she had plans”…

Yandere Yuu.jpg

At first I foolishly thought Yuu was “distraught” but this really is her “Yandere” side.

Yuu…there’s no way around it, stalked Koizumi-san to wherever she was going, worried that she was going to meet up with a guy for some ramen. When she saw her near a restaurant that wasn’t a ramen shop her “Yandere” side awoke…actually it came out as soon as Yuu began worrying.

Yuu leaps into action.jpg

Yuu to the rescue!

When Yuu saw that more than one guy came up to Koizumi-san she could take it no more and leapt in to stop her from making a big mistake…only to find out she was waiting for the guys to leave so she could go into the ramen shop on the other side of the restaurant. The rest of the first sketch was the usual fare whenever Koizumi-san and one of the other ladies go to a ramen shop, Koizumi-san educating her “friends” on the different varieties of ramen in whichever shop/specialty restaurant they visit followed by softcore food porn ramen gorging.

Misa trying out dresses.jpg

Misa trying out dresses.

The second sketch had Yuu accompanying Misa shopping…because Koizumi-san escaped her sight when she got a message from Misa.

Cool Yuu

Yuu acting cool while thinking “What would Koizumi-san do?”

Their next stop was somewhere to chow down…which led them to a ramen shop because Yuu was thinking about Koizumi-san the entire time. When they ordered their ramen Yuu was all like “What would Koizumi-san do?”, further annoying Misa. The usual routine then followed except Koizumi-san wasn’t around this time until the very end when they left the restaurant and she came in soon after. Part of me still thinks Misa kinda has a crush on Yuu but that’s a very small part of me. It could just be her wanting to be the center of attention as usual.

Tempura Flakes.jpg

Tempura flakes.

The third sketch had Jun thinking about an exam that didn’t go well and worrying about her future. She didn’t notice the store she entered had a familiar blonde inside. After flooding Jun with an abundance of info on the deliciousness of instant ramen sold in stores Jun asked her if she had any plans for the future after graduating. Koizumi-san simply handed her tempura flakes, as if it was her way of saying “Dood. You have plenty of time to think about that stuff. Relax and enjoy the ramen”.

What made this particular chow down the most amusing of the three was how the other customers reacted to the erotically tasty show in front of them.

Outdoor Club Meeting

Nadeshiko asking questions.jpg

Best start of the intro was how Chiaki and Nadeshiko talked to each other.

The episode followed two groups going camping in the same week. On one side we had the Outdoor Club of Captain Chiaki, Aoi and Nadeshiko having a meeting to discuss everything they’ll need for their first club camping trip.

Rin and her mom.jpg

Rin and her mom.

On the other side we had Rin going on a solo trip. She even got a bike riding license. Also a mom cameo. Very nice.

Cool Aoi.jpg

Cool Chiaki.

To be honest there isn’t much I can go into detail regarding the episode because it’s mostly a highlight reel with lots of funny moments as both groups prepared and headed out to their respective destinations while keeping in touch. In the comments section feel free to talk about your favorite scenes.

All three were good episodes as usual.

You didn’t even make a comment on Nadeshiko’s monstrous stamina ;(

Antartica continues being amazing. And I agree, there’s something that’s been changing each time…

    Koizumi was tons of fun!

Still not camping with the others…Rin is a tough one. Nadeshiko will break her yet!!

I thought all genki had superhuman stamina.

We’ll see where the Megumi thing goes

      Indeed it was.

Give her time. I’m sure Nadeshiko will convince her eventually.

That Mari vs Mom scene was pure nightmare fuel, Dad is like a main character in a horror game in which he must choose either saving himself or his daughter. And YES, Hinata with hair down is an absolute treat.

And Yuu, pleaseeeeeeeeee do somethin’ drastic for Koizumi to win her heart, don’t just stalk her.

Nadeshiko is a pure and precious bun, no wonder the comment section on gogoanime is so excited about her, Chiaki and Aoi looks like a married couple trying to look after their child (Shiko). Rin is still as adorable as ever and Rin’s mom….( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It seems that dogs are very attracted to Rin and with Chiaki and Aoi describing Nadeshiko like a puppy, that settles it 🙂

I knew you’d like the sight of Hinata with her hair down.

Yes. She needs to change her strategy.

Yuru Camp is full of joy.

      RinDeshiko is OTP.

So far I’ve been enjoying Yuru Camp’s take on 2 groups of girls (although Rin camps solo) camping simultaneously while interacting with each other.
Funny that the Antarctic Squad also had fun camping. Cute Girls Doing Things Outdoors might make a whole new genre in future.

This might be a nitpicking, but the Yuru Camp official website seems to say the captain is Chiaki (the one with glasses), and the blonde girl is Aoi.
I agree it’s confusing though, since Ao in Japanese means “blue”, but Chiaki’s the one with blueish hair.

Nadeshiko’s name is quite a misnomer for that bundle of pure energy. Can’t wait to find out what she’d be cooking next episode. 🥘🍜🌮

    this ok

still waiting for Nadeshiko and Rin to share a tent eternally for the rest of their lives and existence in general

frosty snowy anime was also good, although I’d put it pretty low on my priority list this season t b h

still not watching Koizumi-san, but I thought I’d leave 3 words of wisdom to help with Yuu’s plight:
    Ramen Broth Bath

Universe continues to be a great show.

I liked the scene at the beginning of the episode where Mari tells Shirase “you’re kind of a jerk, aren’t you?” and Shirase responded by basically saying “You’re right, I am. Is that a problem?” I don’t know why, I just thought it was funny that she didn’t deny being called a jerk.

I don’t blame Mari’s mom for being angry. Her daughter made plans to go to Antarctica, a place where you could potentially get lost and/or worst if you don’t follow the rules exactly, without telling her. Of course she would be mad.

I have to agree with you about Megumi. There’s definitely something going on with her. My theory is that she doesn’t want Mari to go to Antarctica. At first she didn’t worry, because she didn’t think Mari would actually make it. But now that it’s looking like it’s certain that she’ll probably go, she’s starting to worry. However, that’s just my theory. It’s possible that I’m wrong.

I swear the NGNL references in each episode are becoming like a game of Where’s Waldo.

I suspect that Mari’s skill with a compass will become important once they’re in Antarctica. For example: maybe she’ll end up getting lost, and she uses her compass to find her way back.

Yuru Camp also continues to be a good show, but I don’t have much to say on it. There were a lot of funny moments. I especially liked the scene with the dogs in the van in front of Rin started staring at her. I don’t know why, I just thought it was kind of amusing.

Also, Nadeshiko has a lot of stamina.

      Shirase is best girl.

Yup. Mari brought it on herself but I don’t blame her for keeping it a secret from her mom either. I remember doing that myself back in the day…with similar end results…

I’m sure we’ll find out what’s up with Megumi before Team Antarctica depart on their journey.

I think they’re present every time there’s a scene in the store Hinata works at.

It definitely will come in handy.

Yuru Camp’s a fun show and that’s enough even if there isn’t much to discuss at times.

She’s a genki so it’s not too surprising.

  7. ….Mari’s mom is terrifying…/shiver (Everyone just be glad your mom isn’t on that level…and if your mom is, well…good luck.)

Yeah, Megumi definitely feels like is gonna have relevance to the main plot in a big way…that ominous post-credit scene this episode practically confirms it, even.

Antarctica show is looking better and better. This episode was just great, in so many ways.

I agree with Cactus Jack. Yuu just needs to like propose to Koizumi with “Marry me and I’ll make all kinds of weird ramen for you everyday! I’ll travel to all the ramen places with you and all kinds of things! Just take me with you!” Or something. Might even work, who knows?

But stalking is bad, Yuu. Tsk tsk. Control your inner Yandere. We have seen you do it, after all, from time to time, we know you can.

I guess Koizumi could just work for all the ramen shops as a “marketing eater”…they give her free ramen, she eats it as nomal, and anyone who sees it instantly wants to eat that ramen…also, they could use her in commercials and stuff. Probably wouldn’t mind one bit. Get paid to eat ramen? Probably her dream job.

Yuru Camp has to be the most relaxing show this season, seriously. I just feel warm and fluffy inside after each episode. Can only watch it in the winter, though…in the summer, it would look too hot, probably.

Nadeshiko’s way of carrying her luggage may actually have been less exhausting over a long distance…as someone who has gone camping in a tent in the wilderness in the past, carrying stuff strapped on my back was always the way to do it. Still…that girl sure has some incredible stamina, to still be so actively running around after walking so long…though even she was lured in by the comfort of their dessert moment and such.

Nadeshiko is such an innocent little ball of fluff.

This episode also made me realize I like the voice acting in Yuru Camp a lot, too. Accents are great.

Yes. Nothing in this world is scarier than a furious mom.

Yuu has to change her strategy if she wants to woo Koizumi-san. She already has the skills to please her stomach so that’s one point in her favor. She just needs to work on her approach.

She would make a great ramen model.

As I told many others I wasn’t as surprised because she’s a genki. They’re known for having enough energy to power a small town. She’s also totes adorbs as you said.

The seiyu are doing a great job.

Im absolutely lovin Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san! I cant help but cheer for Yuu. One day my sweet girl. One day.

  9. The mom scene in Antartica was amazing, the atmosphere was on point. The only bad thing about this anime is that when they say Antartica it reminds me of the gem from Houseki no Kuni and I get a bit sad.

The best scene in Yuri Camp is when Rin is driving behind the car with the dog, especially the end. I really like the soundtrack, it’s probably one of the best thing about the show
